Thanks for the inspiration to try kitbashing. I can see how addictive it can get just as figure collecting itself. I used the Bermejo head, Byrne cape and I took the Super Powers figure's feet and swapped them. By far, my go-to favorite Superman figure. I'm now currently attempting a Jim Lee black/grey Batman as well as a Hush version from the Public Enemies blue variant.

I have to compliment you again for your Superman custom figures. They look superb, and I will try to do several custom Superman figures using that great Multiverse Super Friends Superman figures. It is a shame that the cape really sucks, because I will have to get the cape from other Superman figures. I already have a Superman headsculpt from Toy Box customs. I also have 2 headsculpts from the Mezco Superman figure. A customizer made casts of the Mezco Classic Superman headsculpts, and he painted them for me. That Classic Superman head sculpt might be the best classic comic book Superman headsculpt. I hope that it might fit the DC Multiverse Superman figure, but I might be mistaken. It might be too big. I will also copy your recipe of your Lee Bermejo Superman headsculpt.
@BradTheDCUniverseGeek6 жыл бұрын
The Toybox Customs head is a rad choice. It has a classic look to it. I think it's actually his sculpt too. The Bermejo head is the perfect scale for that body if you ask me, love it.

I picked this figure up and did my first kitbash with the Lee Bermejo head and John Byrne cape, after spending way too much on the 4 pack just to get it. It looks great but I may attempt it again in the future since I screwed up a little. Had trouble getting the head to fit even heating the plastic, so I filed down the ball joint with a Swiss army knife, but the head slightly wobbles now, which bugs me. The cape I pried off of the Byrne figure but I kind of poked through it a bit and there's a red smudge on the S. But on display none of these are really noticeable. I had to scrape off some dripping glue on the cape and a little on the shoulder. Next time I will be able to make it neater but I'm not spending the money on that 4 pack again any time soon! Oh, and I took the Super Friends cape and put it on the Byrne figure because I felt bad for him LOL.

First off; sorry you had a less than 100% smooth experience. I did that back when I started from time to time. Heck, I still do. I’ve never had a problem with the head going on or coming off after leaving it in boiling water for a minute so that’s strange. Maybe they changed the plastic. Be carful with that head though because I’ve found that the hair is a separate glued on piece. I had to re-attach one of his side burns on one of mine after being a bit too rough with it. As for the head being a bit wobbly; even it everything went smoothly the inside hole is a bit bigger than a DCUC neck ball joint. With just a little bit of sticky tack just under the chin that problem is solved. Just keep your eye on eBay like a hawk and save “DC Direct John Byrne Superman” and other relevant terms as your saved searches. That way every time one is loaded up it goes directly to you. Finally; try using the gel super glue and not the liquid. I make a mess with that stuff too. The gel stuff is thicker and will stay where you want it.
@tryksta72476 жыл бұрын
Brad The DC Universe Geek awesome, I will definitely try the sticky tack. That wobbling is really the only thing that bugs me. The small puncture on the cape came from trying to peel off a little too roughly on one side and I didn't realize I was poking through a bit. I used a hair dryer to heat up the plastic so maybe that's why it was different. In any event, this one is my go-to DCUC Superman for sure!

Great review ! Since Superman is my favorite super hero, I love your reviews, and I specially love your kit-bashing videos, but I would never have the nerve to dismantle DC Direct Superman figures, because some of them can be expensive. By the way, thank you for sharing the information of Toy Box customs. I am waiting for my Superman head sculpt. I truly love your Custom Superman figures. How were you able to match the skin colors of the head sculpts with the neck of the figures ? I would have never thought that the Rebirth DC Icons figure's head sculpt would fit the DCUC Superman figure. Also, you did an amazing job cutting the neck of the JIm Lee Superman head sculpt. Are you a surgeon ? Lol Now, I wanted to ask you another question. ( sorry) lol. Besides the DCUC Batman Beyond Terry Mcguinnis head sculpt and the DC Signature Freddy Freeman Captain Marvel Jr's head sculpts, what would you consider a good option for a Kal-El Superboy head sculpt ? I started collecting DC comics when the great comic book artists Dave Cockrum and Mike Grell were drawing " The Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes" comic books, and I have not seen any good Superboy's head sculpts from DC Direct or DCUC.. Ok. One more question ( lol). What combination of body parts would you consider ideal for a custom Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Superman ? I don't see any Superman head sculpt that looks similar to the great Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez artwork.
@BradTheDCUniverseGeek6 жыл бұрын
The skin colours are already a close match so I’m just lucky. I’m not a surgeon but I do have the messy handwriting of a doctor. For superboy I would just stick to the two DCD headsculpt because that is a hard one indeed. I’m not a fan of resculpting because, aside from those precious few people who seem to have magic fingers, it rarely looks right. I understand though because I hate the DCUC superboy teeth headsculpt.
@BradTheDCUniverseGeek6 жыл бұрын
As far as a Jose Garcia Superman I tend to use a regular DCUC Supes head, but one of the ones with the properly painted and coloured eyes. There was a run that was superior to the rest. Failing that maybe I would try and custom the DCD Eradicator head because the hair, jaw and shape are perfect. You could maybe try the Bermejo headsculpt too. I love that one. For the body I use the unreleased light blue version but the Super Friends one looks good and is accurate enough in its colour palet. For the cape on a Garcia Lopez I use the DCD public enemies cape. I know it’s a bit shorter so you could use the DCD John Byrne cape too. It sits over the shoulders nicely and is nice and long.

Thank you for your prompt response. There are many You Tubers who asked people to leave comments, and they don't have the time or desire to answer them. You probably meant the DC Direct Infinite Crisis Superboy head sculpt. There is another one that comes with a Supergirl, Krypto and a Super cat. They represent Superboy when he was around 14. I would like to get a Superboy head sculpt when he is slightly order ( 16-17) which its the way that I remember him when I read the Mike Grell's Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes in the 70's. I think that the best headsculps are the DCUC unmasked Batman Beyond and the DC Signature Captain Marvel Jr ( Freddy Freeman) The last option would have been perfect, but the figure's hair is brushed to the other side. The Dc Collectibles New 52 Teen Titans Superboy has a very nice headsculpt, but I am not a fan of his hair. It would need an experience customizer to sculpt the hair. I also hate the Superboy's teeth headsculpt.

Thank you for your recommendations. Which video has your Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Superman ? I would like to see it. To be honest, I like the Bermejo's headsculpt, but it does not remind me of Jose Luis-Garcia art. For me, Jose Luis is one of the best 2-3 best Superman artist of all time. -+ You were right ! That DC Direct Eradicator headsculpt would look good for a custom Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Superman. I have one in its box but as I stated before, I would have a hear attack if I have to kitbash any of my DC Direct Superman figures. If I had another one, that would be a different story. You use a regular DCUC Superman head. My problem with that head sculpt is that I think that the eyes are too small, but it is still a good headsculpt.

Thank you for the information about the skin colors. Now, I need about 3 more Multiverse Superfriends Superman figures to do something similar to what you did. Also, I need 3 capes. I am waiting for my headcast from Toybox, so I can do a head swap.

Superman is my all-time favorite superhero... But man, am I picky about his head sculpts. More often than not, I pass on a new Supes because I just don't like the head. I don't ever feel like they're getting it right. Out of all of the figures of him that I have, I always tend to prefer the DC Direct Justice League 'Angry Face' Superman. And even the Jim Lee New 52 single pack figure look. Both, I feel, represent the two truest estimations of his look that I've seen. I dunno if I'd ever attempt kitbashing one together. I'm really not gifted when it comes to stuff like that. But, y'never know. That may eventually be the only way I get a Superman that works for me as an all-time version.
@MAMoreno7 жыл бұрын
My thoughts, too. The head sculpts never look right. I want something along the lines of 1980s Curt Swan, John Byrne, or José Luis García-López. Some of the sculpts are *supposedly* based on that era, but they just don't look right. And I dunno, but when I think of Superman, I think of him smiling confidently. I guess toy companies have determined that everyone wants the figures to look like they've been having a bad day or something.
@sXeblues7 жыл бұрын
M.A. Moreno Well said, I very much agree. :)
@raymondvjr77476 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about that. I have not seen any head sculpts that would be similar to the art of Curt Swan not even Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. In my honest opinion, the best Superman artists were Neal Adams ( during the late 60's and early 70's), Curt Swan, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, John Byrne and Dan Jurgens. I would have loved to see John Buscema drawing more Superman comics, but he only did the Superman vs Spider-Man 2 over sized comic.

Raymond VJR If they could capture the signature style of any of those exemplary artists in a Superman head sculpt, I'd probably be all over it. Most def.
@raymondvjr77476 жыл бұрын
With the new technology, it would be possible to do it, but I doubt that any company would do that. Now, there are a couple of options. You can see Brad's video in which he kitbashed a custom John Byrne Superman. He used the head sculpt of the Dc Direct Secret Files Clark Kent, and a DC Direct Superman body to create his wonderful custom. Check it out. It did remind me of John Byrne's art. Neca did a Muhammad Ali vs Superman action figures set. It is very stylized. The figures look like they came from a comic book, and I am not too fond of them, but I like the Superman head sculpt, because it does look like Neal Adams created it. I recently bought a casted head of that figure. There is an artist in Facebook and E-mail who does wonderful work. His store is Patt's Collectibles. I am waiting for the casted head, so that I can send it to him. If it is 2 big, I will use a DC Direct Superman body. If it is small enough, I will use the DC Universe Classics Superman body mold.

Brad the DC Universe Geek - Great review. Can you sent the link down below if you don't mind? And one condition. Is it free and a trustworthy?

Thanks! ToyBoxCustoms does DCUC/Marvel Legends scale heads. Haven’t found anybody who will do smaller headsculpt. He may be able to shrink down the existing head he does offer for Superman perhaps?
@raymondvjr77476 жыл бұрын
There was a guy named Glassman Customs who shrank head sculpts. It is not cheap. He used to charge over $ 20 per headsculpts, but he had some health issues, and I have tried to contact him, but he did not respond. I have ordered a couple of head sculpts from Toy Box customs, including the Superman head sculpt that you got from him. It looks so young that it could fit a DC Signature Superboy figure. It looks better than the original DC Signature Superboy. It is also perfect for a Superman figure. I also ordered a Tom Holland headsculpt that I asked him to modify it for me as a Superboy headsculpt, and he did a great job. To be honest, it looks better than most of the Superboy ( Kal-el) and the Superboy Kon-El headsculpts. I really like the DC Collectibles Teen TiTans New 52 Superboy headsculpt, but it is too big. The guy from Toy Box customs did such a great job that I sent him 2 more headsculpts for him to paint for me. One of the headsculpts was from the DC Direct Black Lantern Superman figure, the one that looks like Superboy. He did an amazing job ! The original Dc Direct headsculpt looked more like a dead Superman.
