@@primerealityproductions4790 This was the choice of the university, which despite being public has plenty of authority over matters such as which sports to fund (as long as they don't infringe on federal allocations like Title IX). My comment sought to highlight the greater trend of schools cutting their track programs, as well as the misconception that they were unprofitable (when most of their athletes aren't on scholarships). Not to mention that Clemson sought to align themselves with racial justice initiatives but cut the school's largest minority populated program (with the exception of football). Minnesota, Central Michagan, and William and Mary are among the other schools to cut their programs to save money. And I take it that the Republicans give a damn about publicly funded sports like college track when time and again when in power they have cut federal funding to state universities, further shifting the financial burden on students?

@Dave-lr2wo3 жыл бұрын
@@bleonar3 I've seen bad passing in the 4x4 in the small-school prep levels. I've rarely seen it in the D1, high-quality program level. In a relay, what matters most is "speed of the baton". The more the baton maintains the incoming velocity without change, the better. This is not particularly tough in the 400, since incoming runners are fatiguing and the receiving athlete isn't too challenged with estimating their own departure speed so that the baton maintains speed. However, in the 4x1, the baton velocity is everything and coordinating the optimal transition for maintaining that speed is much harder. If you visualize both relays with "invisible runners" but where baton is visible, you will recognize that in the 4x4 there isn't much disruption to the baton at all. In the 4x100 there is much greater variance.

@@EternalRecursion I am VERY aware of how staggered starting works. My question is, which lane (on an indoor banked track) is scientifically faster ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL. If you have conclusive scientific knowledge of this, let me know. Maybe others know?
@EternalRecursion3 жыл бұрын
@@MrTrackman100 To keep this simple, I have divided the track into two straight sections I am assuming are each 50 meters, and two curved sections I am also assuming are each 50 meters, all measured from the inside edge of the inside lane. The equation for the circumference of a circle is 2 x pi x r = 2 x 3.14 x r. Adding the two circular ends totals 100 meters, which means the radius of the two sections total is 100 / 2 / 3.14 = 15.9 meters. If we assume the lanes are each .75 meters wide, the inside edge of the outside lane - lane 6 - is 3.75 meters larger in radius than the inside lane. 15.9 + 3.75 = a radius of 19.65 meters for the outside lane of the two circular sections. 2 x 3.14 x 19.65 = 123.4 meters. Which means, running the entire 8 lap race in the outside lane would add an additional 163.8 meters over 7 laps. I suggest, not a winning strategy. Runners 2, 3 and 4 would each run 46.8 meters farther than a runner in lane 1.
@MrTrackman1003 жыл бұрын
@@EternalRecursion Again, you misunderstand my question. First, NO RUNNER (except in lane 1) would ever stay in an the assigned lane the whole race! The lanes are staggered and each stays in his/her lane until the break line (150m), then move to the 1st lane legally. All your math is totally irrelevant to my question. The question is: ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, which is the scientifically best lane, producing the best time. Please don't answer unless you know the intricacies of indoor track running.
