That's one analogy, but the ups and downs of oil prices (recession kills demand, then the economy tries to grow again) look like a car hitting a road full of continuous peaks and valleys, with the grade always trending upward.

Wonder technologies such as fracking has meant that new reserves have come on board in recent years, this caused OPEC to raise their production levels to keep their share of the market causing a temporary glut of oil on the market. Fracking is now uneconomic (some say it needs to be 0.70c per barrel to make it worthwhile). This temporary blip of today's cheap oil has only stalled what Simmonds has decribed. When the Collapse does come it will be faster, harder & more apocalyptic than what has been envisaged by many.

I said the same thing, until I realized that China's growth will force Saudi Arabia to run their oil wells dry, and we're just bleeding them out in the US, biding our time. The Saudi Arabian crackdown that happened recently is proof positive that things are getting really really desperate over there.

August 14th, 2018 - Oil price is at $70 dollars per barrel, and it'll go higher. The fracking boom will bust soon, as the capital won't be available to feed an already overleveraged industry.

End of oil will come from Demand side, not supply. All his predictions and theories have been proven highly inaccurate and now make for good comedy. It goes to show you how complicated and multifaceted these calculations are, with constant changes of technology, politics, etc. having big effect in final calcs.. The other main factor is that no country is providing accurate reserve estimates, especially the Saudis.
