I set out in 2016 with a radian glider on a 3cell 2200 to do my longest flight, it was over 4 hours. It was extremely painful the last hour or so. I was in a lawn chair and got the worst sunburn I ever got. I kept getting thermal after thermal and hungout with birds most of the time but I pretty much used only servos the entire time. Hello! 1. Yes I changed the motor. 2. The fpv video is passed through the flight controller, the OSD info is added, then the signal exits the flight controller and goes to the video transmitter. 3. The fpv camera is glued to a servo that is embedded in the vertical stabilizer.

its good to know that flight can be achieved with such weight the next challenge is custom made solar panels that will compliment the wing span then the next challenge will be the regenerating system whereby the solar panel charges the battery when the voltage drops to a certain level the system will require one main battery and one redundant battery when the main battery is low it triggers the solar panel charger and the redundant battery is activated when the main is fully charged the redundant battery is deactivated and also begins to cool while the main takes over i believe this system than bring about limitless flight time in the future i am very busy now trying to settle other projects however i will hope to realise this project in the future sincerely ejike

Thank you .Matthew. I have successfully tested my glider's maiden flight with the 4108/600kv motor and the 12*12 propeller. However its duration is only 42 minutes with a 5230mah battery which has totally 4166mah discharge amount during the whole flight. Obviously it can't have a flight time to 10hours even If I enlarge the battery to your 50000mah. Let alone the 50000mah battery should be almost 10 times weight of my 5230. I doubt if my glider's CG fitting matters since the vehicle's CG is in the front of the need location even if I don't install any additional devices in it. The design of the plane's force distribution is not so reasonable(you can never make your battery in side the cabin as the original design. Or the CG will be too far ahead.)

Once you get good at that, you can get a beginner RC plane. Then later you can get fancy and add a flight controller for autonomous flight. You MUST be able to fly the plane manually. Thanks! 😄I like the telemetry on my OSD so that I can record it easily. It is displayed on my FPV screen. You can also have it sent to your Taranis. You can have it sent to your laptop if you have telemetry radios. Yeah, you can set a RTH distance in Arduplane.

Beautiful setup! Can you please share the details of the current sensor that you've used? Is it the one that you get with cube?

Thanks! I was using the Matek F405 wing flight controller's built-in current sensor.

Can you make a video carrying packages with this rc plane if it could carry 1kg and still hold up like 5 hours it can be very useful and I would love to have a tutorial of how to make one myself
@MatthewHeiskell3 ай бұрын
It could definitely do that. You would just build the battery pack a little smaller so that the max weight stays the same.

@@MatthewHeiskell great!! How can i make it myself? Maybe you have a parts list even in general like motor’s kv, battery capacity and cells, propellor size

Holly S! that's a battery 🔋. Amazing what you can do with some extra amp hours. I'm just starting out but already had fun upping the battery on the cheapest planes fly's better and goes triple time
@MatthewHeiskell3 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah! Check out the Sanyo NCR18650GA cells. They are the best for this type of endurance flying. You can get an affordable spot welder that operates using a Lipo pack. IMO, the best way is to build your own packs, but the ZOHD LION packs use the same proper cells.

Just found that video during my investigations for a comparable project! Really good job! Would it make a difference to go with 6s and a lower KV motor to get the same RPM? If someone has other good links related to these kind of projects, pleae share ❤
@MatthewHeiskell4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think running 6s with a lower kV motor would be slightly better.

Its a glider, use the batt to climb to 500m kill the engine, ensure there are no auto milling of the prop, use thermal to climb what is max of the day (3000m AGL) and stay 10h up there under the clouds, and fly with the battery over the night, in some scenario 20h airtime. :D

Fantastic, with this type of planes

Many thanks! Yeah, I think that’s about as good as I can do with a 2.4 meter wingspan. Pretty amazing that you can just buy one off the shelf, swap the motor and prop and add a big battery and you’re good to go.

Many thanks! Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, a few days later I got on Google Maps and started drawing distance lines to see how far it could have gone on a one way mission.

Could you not get even longer flight times if you build a mechanism to eject empty cells?
@MatthewHeiskell4 ай бұрын
Yes, haha, losing weight like burning liquid fuel.

Is the Volantex Phoenix 2400mm a good lit/platform to build a long range fpv plane? I just wanna cruise around mostly and do the recordings with a gopro.

@@MatthewHeiskell Cool, I got most of the hardware except the plane now. Raspberry pi zero, Flight controller, GPS module with compass, reliever, ELRS controller. Need some nice VTX system then. I will go Analoge at first. as for plane I already have a Z84 and a 1.500dm balsa glider. what do you think use the Z84 or balsa glider or get a larger Phoenix? The Z84 is a flying wing with roughly.1 meter wingspan.

This is very inspiring Matthew. Setting this bar and having been over 2 years is impressive. This probably constitutes as a Guinness World Record. Have you thought to reach out and claim it?

Thanks! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it too. I contacted AMA, but there's not a category for this kind of RC endurance flight. They guy was like, "wait, you never turned the motor off?!" haha

Hi Matthew great video! have you got any more information/instruction on how you made the battery pack?
@MatthewHeiskell2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I built the battery pack with a spot welder and nickel strips. There are lots of good tutorials on KZbin, especially the people who build packs for DIY ebikes. The olny significant difference is that RC people don't include balance boards or BMS boards. We let our RC chargers take care of that.
