Huge W. Funny how the market reacts. Never fails. I don't think a Tesla even has ever had a positive short term reaction on the stock market. Robotaxis in 2025 in the two biggest states. That's 20% of the total US population. Sure they only start out with regular Teslas. Before launching a year or two later with the dedicated robotaxis. The bots are improving so fast, and even with the human help at the event it is extremely impressive. Every time people say it's all vaporware and smoke and mirrors. Just like they did with Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck. The cap will have "infinite" demand and be the biggest revenue product in the world. Only to be beaten shortly after with Optimus that will be more than 10 times bigger. Looks like I have more time to buy more $TSLA. Hell Yeah!

Exactly, at least for professional investors. When it comes to retail investors, who are prone to think more long-term, he has estranged himself politically from a lot of them. It takes away the "Wow!" reaction needed to impress them. The end result is a lackluster stock reaction even though the future potential is still great.

Was there even one critical or sceptical remark in the entire video? There is no way in hell that he can deliver a price of 20 cent per mile. Even if his absolutely unrealistic 30000 dollar price tag per car is taken (that would be without lidar) then depending on how many miles you assume the car can drive and how often you have to change the battery until the car is worth nothing, the depreciation per mile would be between 8 to 15 cents per mile. Then you have the price for electricity to drive (will be much higher with inefficient wireless charging as proposed), the price for taxes and fees, insurance, the infrastructure for cleaning the cars, repairs, etc.. Not yet included is the price for the processing power to power the AI. The price for one H100 is 25000 dollars, with his own silicon maybe half and I highly doubt that 80 GB are enough, so one would need a couple of them. And then the absolutely ridiculous idea of selling processing power from a car that will NEVER happen. You would not need it to train frontier models, as their bottleneck is data transfer speed not FLOPS, so that will not happen. The only scenario I could think of would be selling AI inference compute, but I can't see that being cheaper in a car compared to a datacentre when adding maintenance, repairs, data transfer, etc. (and it would probably have to be open source, I can't see OpenAI loading their newest models onto the GPUs in the cars)

We talk about car "life" all wrong. Sure, materials degrade on their own while just sitting there, but the real degradation happens when you use it. So you're not getting more value out of the lifetime of your car, you're burning down the lifetime of the car much faster by keeping it constantly in use. We keep talking about this as if we're capturing missed value, but that isn't accurate.

@robbrown2
@robbrown2 19 сағат бұрын
Yes, you're definitely getting more value out of the lifetime of the car. It not only ages while it's sitting such as sun damaging the paint (if parked outside like mine is) but it's just depreciating in value because it's getting older and the technology becoming out of date. It's also taking up space which is a big deal if you happen to live in a city as I do. Also in the city you'll realize how much of your driving and time is spent finding a place to park and then walking to your destination as opposed to just pulling right up to where you wanna be and then having the car drive away.

As cool as it was, I had a few problems with the presentation: 1) If the taxis have no steering wheels or foot pedals, when things go wrong which they inevitably will sometimes, how do you get the car out of being stuck somewhere 2) The car cleaning they showed off might be good for getting rid of some crumbs on the seats and floor, but what happens when someone has spilled their drink on the seat belt? Or any number of other things that aren't easy to recognise 3) I don't believe for a second all the robots handing out drinks to people were completely autonomous. It's cool for a demo but I don't like when robotics companies deceive people about this type of stuff

I just read all the comments and I find them surprising. I find his companies are doing so many things simultaneously and I would bet there is a compounding factor between all of these projects. Where one company focuses on a singular or small set of products, all of this tech will likely come together in inconceivable ways, like an AI autonomous infrastructure, all connected, including off planet. He just built the largest AI brain on the planet for example. Each product is going to create/have access to so much data, live streaming into the AI... Whether a single product is ready at this point or not seems irrelevant to me. There is a much larger picture unfolding. He has recommended a book series called The Culture Series by Iain M. Banks. Which I just looked up finally and believe his vision is largely based on. "The Culture Series by Iain M. Banks is a renowned collection of science fiction novels set in a post-scarcity universe known as the Culture. This society is characterized by its advanced technology, artificial intelligences (AIs), and a strong emphasis on individual freedom and ethical dilemmas arising from interactions with other civilizations."

The Culture in Bank’s books is literally a liberal communist utopia - no money, no government, no laws, no religion, where race and gender are irrelevant because people can change their bodies at will. Couldn’t be further from the exploitative, racist, capitalist future Musk is promoting. His products only increase inequality between the have and have-nots, and his free-speech absolutism is limited to opinions he happens to agree with. If you are looking for a Sci-fi analogy, he’s more Baron Harkonnen.

Kind of like all technology. For instance, steam engines were first used in factories. It was only later that they tried to put them on moving vehicles like trains and ships. Then they put them on steam shovels, which were enormous machines great for digging canals, but they weren't like a modern compact backhoe that you can easily roll into somebody's backyard. Something doesn't need to solve all problems to be useful and have an impact.

That is how new technology is typically deployed. It provides opportunity to iron out bugs before moving onto harsher environments. You would be an idiot to deploy in the most challenging environment first.

I really loved it when you said, 'let's just assume it'll work out.' I like your style! It's kind of nostalgic-it strangely reminds me of the bad guys in the first Star Wars I watched when I was a kid. The style of those taxis is impressively cool, and I love seeing the future arrive sooner rather than later. Thanks for the content, Matthew! 😊

I think the "effect" on the front of the car might be a feature no? It looks like texture projection, can be very helpful to locate the car in its surounding with great precision, plus detecting depth of close by objects/obstacles, under low light conditions, and still using cameras, as opposed to Lidar to that purpose. If it s just for the show that would be cool but disappointing too.

"Next year for sure, we will have over a million robotaxis on the road." - Elon Musk, *October 21, 2019.* They have a well-documented habit of faking their robot demos (lots of debunk videos about them on KZbin), and there's little doubt among people who actually know anything about self-driving that they're _nowhere near_ the level of companies like Waymo and Cruise. Not even close. Apart from lacking any windows and ground clearance, what actual innovations are coming with this bus?

Musk made the tragically stupid and cheap decision not to use sensors or LIDAR. He's never catching up in FSD, doubt if he's even trying to. He's just doing to absolute minimum to avoid getting thrown in jail for lying to pump up the value of Tesla stock.

Bro ok so you have an agenda against him, that’s fine but craft your response a bit better than that. You just make yourself look dumb as fuck. The guy is involved in the most difficult cutting edge industries on multiple fronts and has made massive progress in all of them. If you want to criticise him put a bit of thought into it, he definitely has many faults you can go after other than your benign “smoke and mirrors” crap. It’s blatantly way off the mark and just points to your anti-Musk agenda which is never a good look.

He refuses to admit the accidents that happened with Tesla vehicles now do you think he's going to acknowledge when a robotic bus decides to wrap itself around the telephone pole killing 20 people? When elon says 'in one year' you know you are in a multi decade ride already. On a side note, I am here in zambia travelling. And people here put there car on uber-like apps, because they have a driver who will drive everyone and gets a salary. And the owner makes the money off of running a one car taxi service. And you dont even need a 30 thousand dollar car, you can do this in a 3 thousand dollar car also and earn money when you dont need the ride. Benefits of this is the driver will actually keep your car according to your wishes, self driving cars will be as clean as a public restroom and as dirty as a motel bedsheet. Also self driving is not a solved problem, so this comparison is just imaginary lmao

Regarding the stock fall, I was surprised as well. Like people complained there was not enough solid data and deadlines? It was suppose to be show, not a a power point presentation with charts and tables. Solid data is suppose to be presented at Earning days. Another argument I hear, is that "other" companies do the same thing and are better... like cmon. I did not see anyone else doing the same thing + having the capacity. If Optimius wont make it to homes, well they can just work in Giga factories making cars. It's not like Tesla will go bankrupt just cause one portion of the products did not turn out as they expected. Teslas and Space X scope is huge. If someone is going to deliver the future, it will be them. Space X and Tesla were considered crazy ideas in the beginning doomed to fail... but they didn't, and instead delivered stuff that nobody else could till now. + Some people complain the Optimus is remotely controlled. Personally I don't care. For me the real wonder is the walking robot, and if it is remotely controlled, that it self is a huge thing. All other remotely controlled robots are huge, bulky and require wire connection. This is all wireless and slim.

So you don't take elevators since they switched over to automated operation? It seems like what you look at is the statistics, and if the cars are statistically safer, I would most certainly use that over a human driver. if I simply based things on my own intuition rather than actual statistics, I'd never get in an airplane because that just seems ridiculous to have a metal tube thousand feet in the air. But I can look at the statistics and see that it's pretty safe.

The fact that it’s not 4 door is a mistake. Elon made a mistake by not having the van model show up and have Noland Arbaugh roll out in his power chair. What should be produced, is a Chevette, Pony or original basic Honda Civic version of a Tesla. Something around $12,000. I am a quadriplegic and use a power wheelchair… I don’t need something the size of a camper. Just big enough for a large wheelchair and 1 able bodied person.

That's if the Tesla FSD is ever going to work, we've had so many years hearing it will be reedy "soon". You keep saying looks like futuristic from the past but who’s to say that’s not still what futuristic now is? What does someone from present day think it should like? They don’t. Everyone just thinks cars should look like glossy beans still and nobody changes anything. It’s called aesthetics. There is a reason they had artists working on the designs for movies throughout history.
