New subscriber. Just received mine a few days ago. The main thing I couldn't figure out at first, was my phone was stuck in portrait mode & I wanted landscape mode. I just now figured out that you could physically turn the phone to put it into landscape mode, or press the "M" button twice to do it also. Nobody seems to have covered that in the handful of videos that I've watched so far. Thanks for all the effort you put into making this video.

The face thinning, skin lightening, eye widening features are specifically for the Asian market, where those features are HEAVILY used by everyone, including content creators. I agree that they are gimmicky, but DJI knows its market and that people will use it. Great video, Matti!

I just picked one up yesterday, using an iPhone 11+ Flimic Pro + Moment case for ND's etc... and the quality 'rivals' my dSLR. Really happy with the build quality. Looking forward to using this for some supplemental B-roll. Won't be using it for everything but it's a nice added tool in the toolbox and like you said Matti, it's always there when you need to get a shot. Won't ever use the special effects to modify faces etc.

@@tinaavantis6900 Hey Tina, for that set up it was great! I did however upgrade my phone to a 13 pro recently. It still handles the weight but I wanted to use some of my dSLR 77mm ND's to cover all 3 lenses. I picked up the moment 67mm filter mount and use a step up ring to get me to 77mm. that set up is 300g (10g over the payload specs) The OM5 won't balance it no matter how I place it. The motors do a LOT of complaining... I have to shoot handheld if I want to use that configuration (which is no problem with the amazing stabilization of the 13 pro. If I'm using the original single 37mm VND on the wide or tele it works perfectly... one note: because the iphone 11 has rounded edges it fit very nicely in the phone clamp. The iPhone 13 with it's squared edges does not sit as well... especially with the case on, which is needed to use the single filters... still happy though :)

Same issue as for most phone-gimbals: with the motors in front of the phone you cannot take advantage of the ultra-wide lens. Also, you cannot mimick underslung mode because of the limited tilt angle of those gimbals.

Thanks Matti for the honest review! My wife and I primarily use our Samsung S21 Ultra for our channel, so we will be picking this up, despite some of the gimmicky features and limitations. We've been looking for a gimbal for some time now, but we had trouble finding a compatible one that listed the S21 as good-to-go. We checked the DJI website and the documentation lists the S21 Ultra for the OM 5, so we're sold!

idk there appears to be massive amounts of bad ratings on the OM5. a bunch of issues like weaker motor compared to Past DJI OMs and more flimsy (They probably wanted to save construction costs and made it lower quality and called it a feature with how it's "Lighter!") and firmware issues which causes the motor to have a seizure and shake uncontrollably.

Skin lightening is a feature that many Asian consumers want and girls would like the rosy cheek features. Given the DJI is a Chinese company it makes sense that they would include those features.

Wow! That's cool but I think it would be too cumbersome for me! Like for what im doing in my daily vlog at least! I'm like a run and gunner for the most part and I think the slight camera shake adds to the personality of my vlog! BTW man! You have helped me so much. The review was fun to watch, but two things I was really hoping to find more information on was: 1- Did the OM5 hold/clamp the 12 Pro Max better (including a case); 2- Did it have a little stronger gimble motors to handle a case and Polar Pro ND filter.

It feels slippery with most cases. Especially Apple Silicone case. I used it on the 12 & 13 Pro Max and the regular 11. Weight is definitely an issue. Feels smoother on higher phones.Haven't been using an ND filter but it feels like there will be no issue as you can micro adjust the tilting.

This thing would be great for capturing some extra footage of our storm chasing team, and quickly and easily sent from phone to socials. Added feature of the extendable stick would be that, if used correctly, might reduce the “bounce” effect while walking. Keep the great vids coming legends.

I don't think it would unless you use a high quality Wifi enabled camera as opposed to a cell phone. Even then these Osmo stabilizers are very low end

There are a few cheaper, 1 or 2-axis gimbals that extend. Some of them actually have the tripod built into the main base. DJI should’ve adopted that feature too.

Extension is a plus. Limited gimbal movement a big con, specially if you like to switch between upright and underslung. Still using a zhiyun smooth 4 and extend it with a monopod.

Does it hold up on the tripod in windy weather? I live by the St Lawrence river an dmy regular tripod falls over all the time while filming and the feet of this seem very flimsy ...

Hi Matti .. the DJI Comp' , is it open to the UK ? I don't need to enter as I have the Zhiyun 4 . But just wondered for other people or other givaways ? Also , I got my Xiaomi 8 and the Zhiyun just before the 2020 lockdowns ! great timing . I was going to film car shows , and that all got cancelled ! .. I watch all your vids , and know I should just get started doing something ! But a Gimbal and a half decent phone is much more affordable to start off with . I've had a Canon D5MkII since they came out , but got out of photography for a while . the phone and Gamble is much easier to carry about , and the Canon Video isn't really shoot from the hip kind of stuff .

Wow what a great review of the DJI OM 5 Smaetphone Gimmbal. I tried a Gimmbal last week and it was very difficult to use. The joystick was southpaw and I could not get it to stabilize on my feature viewing object. UT look like the same is true for this Gimmbal. It looks like you need to take a training course in the joystick controls. Why don't they make one the gets "plug n play". Turn it on press.a.button to lock on a object and as you move it will lock on the thebobject mo matter where you Point it. Please Advise. Thank you
