But I had to come back to say that last Saturday, I shot a wedding where the bride's dress was so freakin' tight that there was absolutely no way to hide the cord.... Thanks for revealing that neat trick. Turns out I am still thinking far too complicated. In your review I was guessing things like hiding mics in the bride‘s hair (as they sometimes do in musicals) and stuff like that. But this actually makes perfect sense.

Great information, thanks for the video Matt! I looked into mic-ing brides when I first started shooting weddings about 4 years ago now. I bought a similar thigh strap, but I had my wife test it by walking around the house and it slid right off. Have you run into any issues like that? The fear of the mic falling down as she's walking down the aisle was enough reason for me to abandon the idea, but I may have to revisit it before next season. The results speak for themselves. Jared Lung as per his previous videos and a practice for other videographers, we hit record before the ceremony starts, you just need to have atleast 8 to 16gb of memory, and your recorder can last more than 8 hours

Hit record and lock it as soon as you put it on them. Don't depend on them to hit record. Audio files are small and you should be fine letting it record for a full day

One thing I'm concern about is the file size is going to be huge. That mic did save my butt once. I put a cheap wireless mic on the pastor which I found out later it was way too loud to use. Luckily I had stuck the Tascom in flowers of the arch behind them. It actually did decent, but of course not as good as what you have done here. As always thanks for the information.

Austin Paz with a 32GB micro SD you can get around 10hours of WAV audio. So you should be good to go once you start! 👍

If you have to depend on bride maid, etc. to do it. you think it would be place the tascam inside the strap then have them put it on to make it easier for them to just hook up the mic? would give them one less thing to do for some who may not be tech savvy, lol. Also, my concern once they do it is if they did it right, how do you check, mmmmm?

When the ceremony is in the same building as the preps. If the church is far away from the prep than I guess you click on REC just at the entrance of the church? In this case, for me, it couldn't be a solution as I would look awkward while entering under her dress in front of the church. I think in this case i'd need to click REC before she's leaving her house heading to the church. I will have more recording but these recorders can make it for up to 8 hours..

Hey Matt, I've made some bad expiriences with those rycote stickies. I can really recommend "Joe's Sticky Stuff" especially in the summer and when you stick directly on skin. It is amazing stuff and really lasts longer than the rycote ones. What do you think?

This is really cool, although I'd probably only do this if I had an assistant and it was a windy setting, or a same sex wedding, or there was a ton of extra time. Most of typical weddings always seems to be at least somewhat of a rush to get to the ceremony, so spending the extra time to mic the bride, especially if you have zero help, could potentially get a bit messy. Not to mention not having a woman assistant with you to help ease the awkwardness of it. This would definitely be amazing though if you knew you had the time, help, information, and approval/enthusiasm from the bride.

Hey! We turn it on and start it recording when we put it in the bride. We take it off after the ceremony which is usually 1-2 hours later. The batteries last for 4-5 hours and I’ve never had it stop recording or had batteries die

mic the bride, mic the groom and officiant... buy three of these, also plug into the DJ audio board, you can buy an H6nzoom...also an XLR cable and XLR splitter so you can pull feed before the audio hits the dreaded audio board... having an XLR splitter into the DJ receiver will give you and the DJ both an XLR signal...most DJs are clueless and will just say use an RCA cable..PM me if you want massive detail on sound.

We've been micing the bride for a few years and once you've done it once you realize it's not a big deal at all. As a male videographer I've also never had a problem with attaching the recorder myself. When they sit down to put on their shoes I attach the recorder to their calf (not thigh) with medical tape (so they know its not been on anyone else's leg), hit record (since we have hours of record time anyway) and you're done! It's 100% worth it and it isn't creepy/intrusive if you explain what you're doing as you go along.
