Everyone does it differently but I trim that excess fiberguard off even with the point of the hook. Sometimes it's harder to get a good hookset if the fiberguard is too long.
@MattLunaFishing Жыл бұрын
I disagree with that. Trimming it make it stiffer. I’m on the minority on that but if you just use your finger to move the weed guard you’ll notice the change in pressure between the full and cut weedguard.
@michaelvanbuskirk8845 Жыл бұрын
@@MattLunaFishing Fan the weed guard out a bit instead of leaving it in a cylindrical shape. Being a little more stiff to the touch isn't going to effect the hook set. Being too long and actually getting in the way of the hook point can and will. To each their own.

Matt, when I bake the lures the paint drips into the eye. How do you handle that? And the paint fills the hole for the weed guard. Any suggestion on that?
@MattLunaFishing4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you’re putting too much paint on. The paint should drip into the eye while baking. Sometimes the paint will make the weedguard hole a little tight, but you can take a 1/8 drill bit and clean that out. Are you using a fluid bed or just dipping into the container of paint?
@TX_Nupe4 жыл бұрын
@@MattLunaFishing I'm using a fluid bed

You don’t wire tie your jigs? Where do you get your lead ?
@MattLunaFishing5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, i think wire tying is a waste of time. I’ll lose the jig before I have skirt issues. I have wired tied before, but i don’t think it’s worth it for me. I’ve been lucky to have known people that have been able to give me lead free for a while now. When I know people who have it and they want to get rig of it, I’ll take it and stick pile it. Do It Molds sells it, and you can also look on eBay, Craigslist, tire shops for lead wheel weights, etc.

I don’t. It’s an unpopular opinion, but i think trimming weedguards decrease hook up ratios. I use medium strength weeguards. I think leaving them long allows for more leverage on the weedguard when a fish bites. I have an older codeo where i go into detail on this opinion.
