I just don't understand why they didn't add the thing that would really give a game longevity, mod support.
@Typanoid2 жыл бұрын
@@tanyifan4261 Probably because of the higher-ups doubting the success of the game, their lacking understanding of single-player games being potentially popular with some people, and thus unwillingness to allocate funding to the development of said mod support. I think Marty Stratton later stated in an interview that coding mod support into a game is very complicated and has to be considered from the very start of a game's development cycle. You can't code a game that works and then suddenly slap "mod support" code on top of it and still expext the game to still function correctly. Doom 2016 had a very troubled development cycle, so the development of the actual Doom 2016 game had to focus on the game itself, making it fun, making it DOOM, making it functional and making it stable.

15 is probably a better fit, as far as we know FF7 was more like RE2, just announced too early, but had a relatively smooth production schedule. (especially compared to FF13,14, and 15 which all ran into huge issues) FF7's dev time was 5 years give or take, which is...pretty normal for a big production like this.

I think the statement that it would have been good is fair, it just would not have been Doom. When they discuss the concept I occasionally think 'the vision sounds interesting, and it might have been fun to play, but I'd definitely not trade the current modern Doom games for it'.

And best of all with DOOM 2016's success, with Eternal being in layman's terms "Fucking awesome", it shows it wasn't the rare case of the stars aligning resulting in a fluke success either.

I remember getting Wolfenstein: The New Order when it came out and seeing the “DOOM Multiplayer Beta Code” thing on the box and being hyped as hell for a new Doom game. Then the game took so fucking long to come out, I forgot about it and got re-hyped after seeing the trailer .

well, many players complained that the MP wasn't anything like the single player experience, so for Eternal they made the MP a bit more in line with the single player experience, with one player being Doomguy trying to prove they are a badass while 2 other players being demons do their best to fend off against him

This one might be a bit difficult to make a video on, but the original Hellboy movies with Ron Perlman were promised to cast and crew to become a trilogy that would wrap up the whole story, even having the second movie ending on a cliffhanger, to this day Ron Perlman is pissed off about what happened and I think it would make a really good wha happun since we all know how bad the attempted reboot was

Gotta say a DLC for Doom Eternal where you play a normal resistance guy that has to survive against the demons while the Slayer shows up a few times in a cut scene would be really cool. You could change the gameplay by for example not healing with glorykills.

Civvie! Amazing work on the video, go watch the noclip interviews with marty and hugo from ID, they really explain how the game became what it is today, its really good dev insight.
@GothicAnime3454 жыл бұрын
After doing some online research and watching the no-clip documentary about the development of doom 2016 with the devs I gotta seriously say a lot of credit and mad respect goes to the people at id software for making the very extremely tough call to scrap everything they made for the doom 4 project and restart all over again from the ground up. Developers like kevin cloud, marty stratton and hugo martin who at the end of it all took a step back and re-evaluated the doom 4 project as a whole and accepted/realized that it just didn't feel like doom and wasn't going to work as a doom game as much as they hoped it would and changed course all together. I gotta say that must be heartbreaking for a game development studio to throw away months to years of hard work on a game project just to scrap it all away especially when you had a team of devs who worked their asse's off for hours/days on it, believed in it's production value, saw the potential of the idea's and thought it could work from a strong narrative angle. Hate them or love there's no denying bethesda played a big part in the success of doom 2016 and a lot of props to them for sticking with id software during those dark and difficult years for them and gave them a lot of support and all the creative freedom to do what they felt they needed to do to make a great game. At the end of it all it seems like they put aside their pride to work together and accepted it wasn't going to work and agreed as a studio to do what was best for the franchise and the fans. And from the ashes of their scrapped doom 4 project came perfection in the form of doom 2016 and their time in the trenches working on the doom project through those rough years paid off for id. I wish every single developer at id who worked on the doom project all the sucess and more in the world for making the right call, working their asses off and making doom badass again. Thanks Id software you're fans love you all.

It's almost impossible since the absolute W that was Doom and Doon Eternal that there was a time people were skeptical and somewhat cynical of Doom 2016...... ID had taken a nasty plummet, Rage underperformed, Carmac was gone, the studio was in a civil war.......... in most stories this would have ended in the game's death and the death of ID...... but against all odds, as potent of a miracle as christ risen, ID got back up from that fall, looked back to their roots and made not one, but Two absolutely amazing Doom games..... finally..... a happy ending......

It was fascinating seeing the 2016 coverage. It really turned on a dime from "man this looks like it's going to be bad" to "man this thing's amazing." Doom 2016 was one of two games whose single-player demo sold me on the purchase (the other being the original BioShock). The opening of Doom was really a great way tutorial into not just the controls, but the gameplay and overall scope of the game.

The cancelled "Doom 4" could actually be pretty good if it was re-worked as a spinoff title about the human resistance on Earth that we hear about in Doom: Eternal. It could help fill in the gap between 2016 and Eternal

For anyone who liked this episode, I'd encourage you to also go out and look for articles and videos of postmortem interviews, and about how the audio for the game was made. The lead instrument of the title theme is a revving chainsaw. Most of the music tracks were filtered through like 4 different machines to get the perfect amount of grunge. The mancubus glory kill sounds were made by lathering a steak with honey, stuffing it into a vuvuzela, and blowing it into a vat of soup. The story for the game was apparently undergoing complete overhauls until so late in development that the guy interviewed about this has refused to go on record saying how late in production they actually finalized the story because (paraphrasing) "you would think us stupidly irresponsible".
