I think Matt underplayed how much Platinum changed the gameplay. When I first saw the cut mechanic demo I was gobsmacked at how ambitious that was and how hard it would be to meld with a traditional action game. Platinum saved the game and made something great, but the original vision was extremely lofty.

I had no idea the development for this was this muddy, excellent vid! I'm glad you don't just cover the hilarious failures since learning about your favorite games having a rocky development cycle makes you respect them just a bit more.

I actually loved this game. The last boss fight is literally my favorite boss battle of all time.

This game is the definition of a sleeper hit. Even a decade after it's release, it's cultural impact only grows. Metal Gear Rising 2 has to be coming any day now

I remember in that particular showcase when a gigantic number 2 came up and the world went wild... only to clarify that the 2 was just the second anniversary of the game. It could've been great.

Everybody always says that MGRR introduced its main villain in the last portion of the game but thats simply not true. You obtain video evidence of Armstrong’s involvement even before monsoons level and Mistral (the first actual boss battle) aswell as the many speculative voice lines during the gameplay, comms, and cutscenes.

The fact that this game gets recognized to this very day puts a tear in my eye. The only thing that it needs to do to cement its legacy is for Raiden to be put in another game. Maybe...Smash Bros?

Amazing editing at the 0:38 second mark when you say "a franchise that's been around since 1987" and it cuts from young snake to old. That made me laugh.

The Little-V cover of Rules of Nature at the end put cherry on the cake. And well, let's just hope Kojima still kick ass for enough time to get the IP back into his hands fully and get his full vision of MGS out there again. Or at least some spin-offs as they were intended.

Man... I loved this game. Like way too much lol. Bought it on pc, ps3, and xbox 360. I'm so sad this never got it's sequel. People pissing and moaning about not liking Raiden so much... That and with Konami being so detached from their fans. At this point I'd settle for mod tools to do more with the base game.
