It seems a lot of people are crazy about these SunJoe SPX-9004 & SPX-9007 PRO pressure washers so guess I need to test them. I would much rather have one of the cheaper SunJoe pressure washers or a Comet over these.

I have the SunJoe SPX-9008PRO that was bought as a backup and it is now no longer under warranty. Went to use the BRAND NEW unit and the motor turns on, but no pressure gets to the wand. With the unit turned on, I tried adjusting the unloader valve, while holding down the trigger nozzle, from completely open, and twisting down until it seated all the way - no difference. I took apart the unloader valve to see if anything was stuck, and the spring moves freely as does the tip at the end when pressed. I opened the pump to find all 3 valves have no obstruction, and I can use a center punch to easily press in their centers. I made sure each was properly re-seated. I checked the packings and none of the rubber washers are deformed or broken. I ran some pressure washer pump cleaner through it and still no fix. Motor turns on but when the wand tip is pressed, no pressure goes to the wand. I don't run the motor longer than 15-seconds before I press the trigger on the wand. When I went to turn it on again, the motor went silent. Thinking I tripped the breaker, I went to the plug and saw the red light was still lit so I reset the plug and turned on the pressure washer and the motor hummed. Tried the trigger wand and still no water pressure. The oil level is where it needs to be, clear, and the air bubble is near the top, above the red dot. What do you suppose the issue is? Is there something else I can try to get this pressure washer working? I'm very mechanically inclined so feel free to go into as much detail as you'd like.

Thanks for the test on the Sun Joe SPX-9004. I could not find a Comet 1700 anywhere, everyone was sold out back in February and March. So the Auto- Fanatic showed his alternative to a Kranzle in a video of the SJ SPX- 9004. It’s not perfect but gets the job done. One big annoyance is the lack of Sun-Joe support. I called them asking about a auto shut off switch and a rolling cart, all he said was they weren’t available, try another model.

Totally shocked because I have a 9004 with a mtm gun with 3.5 nozzle and it does 1000psi and 1.8 gpm. Not sure on amperage but it doesn't kick a 15amp circuit breaker it's plugged into. I also just use a remote to turn the breaker on and off from my pocket. It is certainly all it will do though. Yes it's obviously not perfect or ideal but a good compromise for ~$400 total opposed to ~$1500 for a proper kranzle setup.

I recently purchased the SPX-9004 unit. I chose it because on paper, it offered an ideal PSI/GPM rating for car cleaning and even light household use. But, it was the 2.0 GPM rating that swayed me for better foaming action. My honest opinion is that this is a great little machine that can give you perceived "commercial-grade" performance and durability. Jury's still out on durability. And I doubut you'll see spec'ed ratings in real life. A bit lower PSI/GPM depending on application is more realistic. Attached to my Trinova foam cannon, I get very nice foaming that covers the entire vehicle in white stuff. Sure, more expensive units can produce fluffier thicker foam. But please tell me why I have to have thicker foam than what I'm already getting with this unit. My cleaning agents are doing the job just the same. When paired with the 40 or 25 degree nozzle, I have no problem rinsing and safely removing above-surface contaminants like bugs and tar residue. So, while I love Matt's thoroughness and would carefully consider his advice, I find this unit to be a good, solidly-built buy. It will get the job done just fine. Just need to see what durability and reliability looks like after a while of heavy use.

I bought the new Greenworks GPW-2006 rated @2000 psi and 1.2 gpm. It is definitely not the same as the GPW 2000-1 Matt tested. I tested psi with an MTM pressure guage, and also timed gpm runs, total weight - bucket ÷ 8.34. Ran each test 3x and used 15ft 3/4" inlet hose with QD's on every test. 1.) Completely stock setup with QD's used to mount the guage, I got 1400 psi with the OEM 40° nozzle and 1.16 gpm. 2.) Same stock setup but with 3.0 MTM nozzle, I got 925 psi with 1.36 gpm. 3.) Used Simpson Monster 50ft 3/8 hose, Suttner ST-2000 gun, Mosmatic swivel, QD's at every juncture, and 3.0 MTM nozzle, I got 925 psi and 1.38 gpm. 4.) Foam cannon with 1.1 orifice I got 1100 psi. The foam was good for an entry level electric pw. The unit itself came with the same accessories as the old GPW-2000-1 model. I'm happy with it for now. I think it retails for $239.99.

Hey Matt, I just did a test on Active VE52 | 1800 PSI | 2.0 GPM | 13 Amp | Electric Pressure Washer using your method. It has the TSS feature, price at $150 on amazon. With the stock 3.7 nozzle (orifice 1.25mm) comes with the machine, I got 1.86 GPM at 900 psi. With the 3.0 MTM nozzle, I got 1.66 GPM at 1,180 psi. I also did the test on my Sunjoe SPX3001 for comparison, with your recommended setup, 3.0 MTM nozzle, I got 1.44 GPM at 900 psi. If you have chance, you could test this machine, for the price, the performance is better than all the cheap units you tested.

I emailed them to ask what the in-rush current for the 9004 is (in-rush current is the peak amperage that an electric motor draws in order to start up which can be double to triple or more of the running amperage). They said that their listed amperage of 13.5 is the constant amperage of these units--start-up or running. From what little I know about how these things work, that's impossible. When I questioned this, they never responded to me again. Even if this is the only unit I could ever run on my 3400 peak wattage inverter generator, I won't do it, not with such utterly lame communication.

@@ObsessedGarage Thanks, but there are just too many reasons not to want my money to go to Sun Joe regardless. From what I understand, true peak in-rush current is difficult for all but the most advanced meters to measure, so unless you're rocking a badass Fluke ampmeter, I'd err on the side of cautious with the initial/peak readings. My objective is actually to find the best unit I can that draws 28 or fewer amps on startup in order be safe with my generator. I'll probably be shooting you an email at some point as I'm hoping to confirm with Kranzle or Comet that something there will be safe with my gen, unfortunately I haven't heard back from either company.

I had one of those for a very brief time, and I was impressed by it. I couldn't keep it because it unfortunately drew far too many amps on startup for my inverter generator to handle (I'm a mobile detailer), and since it should be on a 20 amp household circuit, I couldn't even keep it for use on clients' circuits because most of them only have 15 amp circuits. If I had a shop/home setup, the AR630 TSS would probably be my go-to considering how similar in specs it is to Kranzle but with a significantly lower price tag.

@@phasmata3813 that's the main reason why I got mine. For the price, and rebuildability, it's a bargain. The weight might be the only drawback. But I go to the gym, so that's not an issue for me at all.

Man i just love it when I'm right on my assessments with these units, for months I've been saying that the SPX9004 is trash and this video has confirmed this 10 fold. Yet you will still have idiots like Scott Smith or other saying it "comparable to the kranzle because box spec says so", 750 psi @ 1.8gpm is horrible that won't push much off. Do yourselves a favor and just save up your paychecks for a comet or a kranzle and stop going off the recommendations of people who have no business making dumb comparisons between this unit and the more expensive ones, maybe if more people stop supporting these junk sun blows maybe sun joe will get the message and actually get it right once they see their sales plummet, its not even worth it when its on sale id rather buy the Karcher k1700. This isn't me hating or anything because i know what this unit is capable of at this price point, its people who want to make it into something it's not just to justify or push some "cheap and stupid" agenda because they want to be a rebel is where I have a problem.

Swagura Mutsuki Feeling the need to call out another OG member in a KZbin comment shows you care just a little bit too much about it. Also, you’ve been saying it’s trash based off of your usage, or just because you’re assuming? If you’ve used the machine, you’ll see it gets you to the same end result as any pressure washer, whether $79 or $1200.
