Yes, I know I'm pronouncing it wrong.
This is a test of the few Kärchers that I actually have the fittings for. The rest of the pressure washers will be tested once I have fittings that allow me to get pressure readings.

The issue with air may be because you are trying to prime it without a nozzle on the end. the reason why this is a thing is the Soap injectors are venturi based, so when there is no back pressure, the soap injector is injecting air or soap into the line. I have tested this myself with a much older K2 i have, which has said soap injector. Using the wand without a nozzle (has a gentle 40 degree or so unrestricted spray built in) results in soap or air. As soon as i put a restriction on the wand like a proper nozzle or my Bowdens Foam Cannon, the air bleeds out then stops within seconds, even on some 12.5 meters of hose. What you should do, is leave the nozzle on for priming the high pressure hose, and make sure the inlet line is fully primed, then turn her on and just let her run, she will sort herself out decently fast. The other thing you could do is simply fill the soap tank with water so it doesnt suck air.

I just bought the K1700 because of this review....thanks Matt! Yes the air can be an issue. What I do before I turn the power on is, I take a strap of velcro I use to keep the high pressure hose together, & wrap it around the trigger of the gun letting the water run while I get all my other crap together & filled. Usually gives me a few minutes of letting the water run.

While shopping for a fairly basic preasure washer to wash cars, I have watched dozens of reviews. Has been so frustrating when they say "feels like it is giving the preasure advertised" or " you can just tell it is as powerfull as they promised" All I could think about is how easy it would be to test and confirm they perform as their spec sheets promote.. Sir, you are a prayer answered and I only wished Iwould have found this video series before I flipped a coin to make my purchase. I am inspired to watch all your test and buy another with some feeling that I will now know just what I will be getting.. Thank you for your efforts in this video series.

We don’t have those Cube models in the UK. Never seen them before. I’ve always had Karcher since I bought my first one in the early 90’s. In that 25+ years I’ve had 3. My current 6.8 is over 10 years old. I’ve had it that long I can’t remember when I got it. It used to be the case that the K5 onwards (if memory serves) used a different spec motor with all metal parts rather than some plastic components that the K2’s etc had. So the higher number models were very reliable. I’ve read on a forum recently that Karchers aren’t what they once were and made in China now. I’ve never had a problem with them and my pretty ancient 6.8 is still going strong. It’s been used pretty much every week it’s whole life. I’ve been waiting for it to go so I can try something else but it won’t break! In the UK it’s Kranzle, Karcher and Nilfisk that appear to be the ones that are the most popular with detailing enthusiasts.

Turbo nozzle is a pencil jet that is then spun in a clockwise fashion to create a larger area but without losing any of the power of the pencil. That's why you must be careful when using a turbo nozzle. Turbo are great for tractors and other 3in thick mud and stuff but I wouldn't recommend using on body although it won't hurt it if the paint is still good but it's quite tough on the paint.

I am pretty sure Kartcher (SP?) is the company that makes the pressure washer machines for Simoniz. If so, the connector on the reel is M14 if memory serves. I did not try to find an adaptor for it, I just used a M22-14 to M22-15 and added a second 30 feet hose as an extension. If you can find a M14 to M22-14 that would be amazing. Been waiting for this part of the test since you started, really happy you got to it. Eager to see the charts once you are done with the testing.

The k1900-2000 uses a induction motor instead of universal like all the other pressure washer which is more complex, heavy, and theoretically more durable. It’s supposed to be quieter too but guess not for those models. It’s the equivalent to the brushless motors u tested before. When I was scouting out pressure washers, the k5 Has a water cooled induction motor so that should be very quiet so I’m interested to see if it’s true.

Matt, just found your channel and have been watching intently. Just ordered the K1700 Cube for washing the cars and light jobs around the house. At 6:52, you mention 3.0 1000 psi. What does the 3.0 nozzle represent? Is this related to the tip in the gun you have attached? Also, when do you think you will have the accessories up for the Karchers? Thanks for all you are doing. Dream job - playing with guy toys and helping other car guys at that same time. Bravo!

I picked up a K1700 Cube locally today and paired it with my MTM Premium 1 Pro Kit. I didn't get anywhere near as nice of foam as you did on the PF22 with the 1.1 (Chemical guys Honeydew with approx 60ml in the bottle with warm water). However I also noticed when I hit the trigger there is a big "lag" right after the initial spurt before the pressure gets up so I'm suspecting an inlet issue first (using Gardena hose and fittings). I'll test with a short 5/8 leader hose direct to the K1700 and see if that solves it and also try more soap. Otherwise it is a nice little unit and would fit on a shelf great though that foot pedal is handy! So nice to see the outlet is standard.

I purchased a K1900 in 2018 and within a short period of time the machine locked up and I couldn't get any water to come out of the nozzle. After many attempts at undoing the hoses, etc. the company sent me a new unit under warranty. The new unit, which I received in 2019, acted the same way. It would lock up all the time like a vapor lock in the hose and sometime the motor would not kick on. Probably on used this machine 6 or 8 times before it froze up for good. I know you would retest but it seems like the initial start is different for every model from each brand. I wonder what the GPM would be if you started each one for 5 seconds and then put it in the bucket to given them an even playing field. You could have also used an in-line flow meter but I know those are expensive. I don’t think the difference would be huge but I think these models would have slightly higher GPM if not for the weird start up. A couple seconds could mean .05 of a difference.

Seems the $249 Greenworks 2200 brushless, despite it's ramp up time, is the best big box option. 1050 PSI flowing at 1.9 GPM with the 4.0 nozzle 👍.

All of these pretty crappy, so a lot of it will come down to acceptable amount of output and then user experience. I think the Karcher 1700, Ryobi 1600, and Greenworks 2000 are the best this far.

Debating on a 1700 vs a 1900... the induction motor / triplex pump in the 1900 should, in theory last at lease twice as long as the universal in the 1700 correct? My thought is the 1700 has better flow but at the cost of needing replaced every couple years at most where the 1900 should last at least a decade or more for less than twice the cost of the 1700? And just for fun, I have a lathe and made several custom foam cannon nozzles from 0.8mm to 1.2mm and didn't notice any difference in foam using any of the sizes but with the smaller orifice the pressure washer sounded like it was struggling, a lot. I settled on 1.05mm as the machine didn't sound like it was working so hard. Maybe the washer I currently have just isn't really up to the task. Several nozzles, soaps, concentrations... no real discernible difference . I've never got foam like in this vid.

Great video series. When you say at 7:02 that your pulling 12.8amps which is less power how do you figure your overworking it if it was drawing 15amps before? Letting the system build back pressure I would figure is just harder for all the pump parts to push water through the nozzle?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 5 жыл бұрын
What I'm looking for is a spike. If the pump was drawing 13 amps when using the regular gun and then jumped to 18 amps when using the foam cannon, that would be a red flag that we were overworking the pump.
