@PGXPPR3 жыл бұрын
They have a button to override the stability control, it allows wheel spin. I think my 08 4x4 pathfinder would have made that. I have been up some pretty tough stuff with it. I want to lift it and put lockers in it but it is a goat. It is a trail limo not a bronco or wrangler.
@naceks3 жыл бұрын
@@PGXPPR I drove Pathfinder in sand dunes, with 2.5 dci (diesel) engine, 04 model year (maybe 05?). with 2 inch lift + 35" tyres (285/75/16). that is a proper off road car, no worse than wrangler. the one I drove had both lockers and it went awesome. I actually didn't need lockers in dunes at all though... Only problems with it are its "softness" and approach angle...first is hard to solve (it has electronic switch for turning on 4x4), second is quite easy - change front bumper...

4:20 notice how Mat pushed on the top of the tire after the bumper... Pushing the top of the tire gives you more leverage/ mechanical advantage. This was proven to me during the battalion fun day(officers versus enlisted flag football, EIB qualification and many other assorted reindeer games) in the army. One of the reindeer games was , the guys had to push a Humvee(m1114 armored) up a hill 100 yd gaining 50ft . The crews that put one man on each tire traveled up the hill much easier and faster than those that put all four bodies against the back of the truck( some couldn't make the top due to increased effort/ force required and runners can't carry 250lbs for a mile).
@clivehorridge3 жыл бұрын
I learned this early on as a teenager getting my uncle’s old tractor stuck when me and my brother shouldn’t have been on it… it’s amazing how much easier it is than just pushing, especially with decent sized wheels (like his old Massey Ferguson tractor). I can't believe that Pathfinder could not climb up that hill on its own...maybe it is because of the tires but that car is quite capable offroader... there must be sth wrong with its drives - it must be that its 4x4 didn't lock in. while Pathfinder is a capable offroader it is quite "soft" in a sense that its 4x4 is turned on by wires and sensors, not by levers. and if for instance one of its ABS sensors doesn't work then it won't turn on its front wheels (=4 wheel drive). EDIT: you can see at 8:50 mark that its front wheels were not spinning when it was climbing. so yeah, sth is not right with that Pathfinder...

Ed you didn't mess up. You gained experience! Loved the Ed Thumbs up. Trevor, if your doctor ever asks you to breath in and out, just have him/her listen to this video. Good job keeping up, I'd been done way before you.

tells you all you need to know about a "pathfinder". The only path it can find is the paint stripe on a paved road.
@johnhpalmer60983 жыл бұрын
@@anotherdave5107 Well, to be honest, the Pathfinder is now Unibody, rather than body on frame as the first gen was, but may or may not have retained the 4x4 configuration, of which the original Pathfinder was. My best friend's older brother has an '87 two door Pathfinder, and it was very much truck like. Also, this Pathfinder here still has street tires on it, so that does not help.
@davec.31983 жыл бұрын
@@anotherdave5107 I was surprised to see this. I lived in the snowbelt and I have AT tires on my 2011 Pathfinder. It would make it up our steep driveway with 1-2 feet of snow, no problem, every time. Even if it was all ice. No issue. I even pulled a UPS truck up my driveway in 4WD low. I think he left the traction control on. This is not the unibody design. I believe that was 2012 or 13.

Hey Matt, have you ever thought about building an offroad recovery trailer with independent suspension and better ground clearance? Btw, I love my rope that I got from you. Stay safe.
@TheRealStructurer3 жыл бұрын
I have been thinking the same… Ar least something with bigger wheels
@stevej68243 жыл бұрын
My buddy modified his old flatbed trailer by adding air bags to give it more clearance on the trail then air them down once he was back on paved roads. The set up worked great 👍
@chazfaz35953 жыл бұрын
I had been thinking the same; but with 4WD drive parts from a wrecked electric UTV. For those uphill sand pulls. Paul and Matt could pull that fab off. Then control remotely like with a winch
@NB-yn7dv3 жыл бұрын
I came to comment the same thing. Plus pretty soon the Banana will be done so there won’t be anything for the Sunday build videos.
@camerontrail72813 жыл бұрын
he’s covered it before lightness = winning in sand so that’s why his trailer is bare bones and it seems to work well how it is so i doubt he’ll change it up

Great video thanks, just a few points: 1. Get air assist rear suspension on the Movair so you can pump it up, it really sinks when towing! 2. Fantastic editing and photography, thank you! 3. Modern electronics are hindering newer cars, making them less capable. The Nissan should have easily got up there.
@mikethemike64063 жыл бұрын
I agree. My 1989 Isuzu Trooper would have easily taken that road. I was disappointed in this late model Nissan.
@Sickofitall-763 жыл бұрын
Shows what crap these car companies produce these days! An ‘80s and early ‘90s Pathfinder would have walked up that trail no problem. 30yrs of engineering and they’ve killed any off-road capability this truck ever had, good work Nissan!
@codyschmid68073 жыл бұрын
Those pathfinders can actually be pretty decent with the right tires and traction control turned off. Anything next to the morvair is going to look inadequate and getting stuck doesnt mean the vehicle is no good.
@codyschmid68073 жыл бұрын
And at the same time that this Pathfinder was being produced, Nissan was making the Xterra Pro4x/Off Road, Patrol and Frontier Nismo/Pro4x. All very very capable vehicles.

@@TucsonDude not that weak. Weve had 33s and heavy wheels on our pro4x, off road the crap out of it and 175,000 miles later, still no problems. Could be stronger but its certainly adequate unless you're doing like 35s or bigger. Pretty good for a Nissan.

Genuine regards from NZ!👍🏻🇳🇿
