This recovery shows something that I say often, we are all seconds from disaster. I don't say that in a paranoid way, it's just reality. Even the mundane can get out of hand quickly. I'm glad the experience (and a bit of luck) of this crew kept everyone safe and the job got completed. This also shows how useful the 'Heavy Wrecker' will be.

The Heavy Wrecker will definitely be an asset but there will be a need for one of the other vehicles to go also "as a support vehicle". With only two personnel in the Heavy Wrecker, the recovery may require more hands on deck, which is something the Banana or Morvair can provide.

In times like that you can laugh or cry and it's easier to get the job done and stay on your toes with a crew full of nervous laughter than when crying scared when I broke my back I was laughing the whole time they rolled my truck on its wheels so they could cut the roof and gear shift off to get me out and while they used a winch to pull the lead fireman carrying me up the ravine while the rest held onto repelling gear they used to get to me how anyone found me is beyond me I heard people drive by most of the day my dad drove by twice on a tractor and several times looking for me the neighbor just happened to notice a broken branch had part of my mirror bracket stuck in it and decided to stop and investigate and heard my stereo so he got in the loader of his tractor and had his son lift him high enough to see over the trees I'd blown a tire faster than I should've been going on a gravel road and took air as I left the road and only damaged 1 branch within sight of the road then hit a tree and must've been thrown to the floor so hard the gear shift being in 4th held me between it and the seat and as the roof came down it just wrapped around me and held me in it was scary being in there hurt seeing what looked like alot of blood smelling both tanks I'd filled 8 miles ago leaking knowing I'm on my lid and the battery was still connected because the stereo and buzzers were going off hoping nothing shorted out and ignited the gas and I was a mile and 3/4 from home I thought for sure I wouldn't be found until someone saw a fire after the 5th or 6th vehicle toodled by thank God my chrome was polished and caught someone's eye I'd been in and out of it for almost 5 hours before being found and another almost 2 before being put in the ambulance headed a quarter mile to the helicopter by the time it took off I was already flying from whatever they put in my IV in the ambulance the helicopter crew said I was one of the funniest patients they ever had and were amazed I was walking (with a cane still) almost 2 years later when I got a chance to meet them they said flying over the emergency crews they couldn't even see my truck in the ravine and they were low looking at landing sites to find the closest safe one

@@chrisholmes6311 No, this is completely your fault for this rock getting tossed down the mountain. You should be responsible for getting it back, if you want it so bad. There is no sign or any indication that this road is closed, so how would Matt or anyone know this is meant to be a closure? And if you can get past it, is it really considered a closure? If I show up in my Jeep and see this rock, I'll just consider it an obstacle and drive right over it. Get a gate, put up some legitimate signs, then you might have something to stand on regarding this issue. Trying to take advantage of Matt's class only shows your lack of class.

That shot of the Jeep reminded me of my FJ 40 back in the late 70's hung up and only held by an aspen from rolling off the mountain up by Rollin's Pass outta Boulder, CO. Fortunately some fella came by with a chopped F250. Probably 2 hours of dragging and snatch blocking (no winch of course!) with a 1/4" stainless steel cable. CRAZY days back then.

At 28k lbs MBS with a pulley system (weight taken by the anchor instead of the rope), the break-ability of the weight rated pull line is completely negligible here. Great job! That was a tough recovery. Regarding the lost wheel: I've had success hauling a vehicle missing a wheel by jamming a short piece (4') of 4x4" (or a similar piece of tree) under the suspension and lashing it in. It allows the vehicle to slide along on the wood and not dig in to ruts etc. Thanks for the videos!

@@JohnFL No, his business model just changed. He started out just a regular tow company(well actually he had a roofing company first, then he sold it and bought wesslers(sp?) towing). He didn't even do any off roading, they all did derby stuff 100 percent on their off time. Then he started getting calls for people stuck in the sand, so the winch wasn't necessary. This was before the banana was even painted yellow. THEN he started uploaded videos to yt at some point, he started getting more calls that he didn't used to take, stuff broke down while crawling. Between the only doing stuck vehicles(never needing the winch) to rock crawler rescues(mainly for yt views) he then needed the winches, and now he is doing so many that he is advancing to an off road wrecker. But without yt he would have never went past just your average sand hollow rescue. Point it, it had NOTHING to do with us, except for maybe the viewership being higher on videos where he was rock crawling(more exciting). This is why he doesn't video the dozens of times he gets side by sides, and just uses them for filler or almost B roll, becuase people just don't watch them as much. I personally think Trailmater's rig and recoveries are awesome, I just don't watch them as much because he doesn't have the some people there to just it personality. Which is why I can't wait for the heavy wrecker(which is probably the main reason Matt is making it, also the view count for fabrication is way higher.)
