Not sure why that "space opera" image won anything. I checked it out and wasn't seriously moved by it. Granted, it was nice to look at, but I didn't think it was nice enough to win first prize at a competition.

Outpainting is a great feature, but consumes to many credits.. At the moment, I prefer the credit logic of midjourney that with standard plan offer unlimited image generations per month. At the moment I prefer also midjourney outputs.. More creative and aesthetic

I really love the result you able to get when combining the images! Though with the current price I don't think it's worth expanding an image with this new feature, but if you have two images that need to be combined I think it's actually priced pretty good. The best thing about this is that other ai tools will likely incorpoate this in the future.

I don't know why, but why does OpenAI still refuse to release Dall E 2 for public testing, like that should've happened weeks or months ago, that in itself lowered the hype and lowered the traffic by a lot.

Another feature I think worth mentioning is downsizing your uploaded image, if you "shrink" the image before you tick the box it will upload the image as smaller than the generation square, you could have added all that background to the samurai bunny without having to generate a bunch of different frames if that makes sense

Even though the final result is eye-candy, you will admit that most of the time you kind of selected the picture in/outpainting generation that would fit the rest, in other words it remains still VERY hard (my experience is hours of work) to actually get what you WANT, especially if variations are small. There still has to be some giant leap into getting what you actually want iteratively improved -- the generation process tend to produce something which you'll most of the time want to improve, or accept as "well that's the best I can get". Thanks a lot for the video !

@@henrythegreatamerican8136 People only hate and hate on credit system, where it's honestly really good pricing model and a lot more comfortable to use than subscriptions. Pay when you want to pay, don't pay for each month. Say, you start subscription. 2 months in, you lack creativity for entire next (3rd) month, so you just don't use the AI, but since you are sure your creativity will get back to you, you won't be cancelling the subscription just for this one month that you didn't use - You will wait a few days more. And then, they still take your money for not using that. There really is no reason to only hate on credit systems. All that people at OpenAI need is to calm down and lower the prices to feel inviting and approachable by anyone with a normal, decent job or other means of decent stable income.

Just some quick math: Let's say that your cost per kW/h was 15 cents. To render one image at 512x512 and 50 steps takes about 7 seconds on a 3080ti. The power drain is 250 W/h, so just a fraction of a watt, about 0.5 watts is used here. That ends up costing about 15 cents for 2000 renders at that scale. Think about that when you factor in what you are paying per render on whatever service. Keep in mind also, that a cheap scalar does an excellent job getting that 512x512 to 1024x1024 and beyond. That happens with hardly any power usage at all in comparison.

Not the first time OpenAI has done this either. Someone calculated out their costs for running GPT-3 versus what they were charging per generation, and it was several thousand % profit margin on their part. It's why alternate services like NovelAI, HoloAI, and even KoboldAI (host on your own PC) have become popular.

You can't fight against innovation, I think AI will be a tool as useful for artist as it is for non artists. About the comment from the Colorado fiasco: yes, I will totally discount the human input into an AI image like that, and you might too if you'd been through the blood sweat and tears to reach a level where I could create such an image - 60 years of it. Plus the week or two of full time work to actually paint that image. (If painted in traditional media, more like a month.) Most artists might charge anywhere from a thousand to couple thousand usd for it. Now compare that to a few days of learning a new app, and a few hours of trying out different prompts, and maybe using up a dollar or two of credits. It takes only high school graduates, or maybe not even that soon, when the AIs start to use auto-complete, suggest prompts, and link to free prompt libraries. Any intern will be able to create the same art I can now, and soon it will be better than what I could possibly hope to achieve in a manageable time frame. In some cases this is already true. In the near future incomes start dropping for artists (and musicians). Making jokes about it ("they'll just have to turn into AIs, like me") seems in bad taste imo. Or is it a serious suggestion - we start using AI to supplement our income? How, when the price is set at a dollar or 2 per image? Sure, we'd be able to do more gigs in a month, but we can't do thousands more, which is what it would take to support my family.
@ghost-user559
@ghost-user559 2 жыл бұрын
Art will have zero value because a random intern with 30 dollars a month can create as many comps as some of the largest art departments on earth would create for full salaries in a year, instead using ai they create that output for several cents over a three day weekend. This will put the value and perception of art to zero, and blur the lines between art and propaganda. Ai generated culture is a literal dystopian nightmare.

I love how AIs reveal the arrogance of humanity. Everyone thought art was something deeply human, something that distinguished humans from animals, and even more so from technology like computers. And now AIs are coming out and making the most blatant art that humans could ever dream up, in a fraction of a second. I would say after the theory of evolution, AI is the second thing that will make humanity realize that it is not as special as it likes to think. And we can be glad that AIs are only making art at the moment. It will be exciting when the first hacker AI frees up :D

Why pay humans when ai never sleeps, can’t complain or sue, and literally creates hundreds of comps in minutes for free. It’s not about philosophy. We are passed that. The cries, "If all can create art they love, art will die"! The cries, "What will happen to the artists if all can be an artist"! The cries, "Art is dead! It was killed by art folk wanted and liked"! Art will never die and artists that can not compete against a computer have to come to accept that calling yourself "an artist" will not guarantee you to work with art in same way that all that have a camera now can call themself a photographer. Artists like Patrick Moya have a style that he had for decades and he keep this style so you easy can se it is his art, you can also se him make art live and paint chapels, something AI can't do. So take it easy, AI is cool and will only compete with the worst bottom scrape of artists on Fiver.

I feel like I'm the opposite case of the angry artist, as a person who has always been bad at drawing, painting, etc. but has tons of creative ideas (including a lot of hyper-vivid & creative dreams that I can never sketch down), I feel like these AI's are a godsend for people like me. So maybe it is bad for artists in some ways, but it probably helps orders of magnitude more people; that and it will get a lot of people _into_ making artwork, not drive them away.

No company on earth will ever hire an artist again when they get unlimited art for 30 dollars a month. Period. Art will be worthless because everyone who once payed for artists will have a subscription as commonly as the use Netflix instead of a movie theater. Why would a single company hire an artist or pay for a comp when 30 dollars a month and an intern can make the entire art departments yearly output in a single weekend.

@@ghost-user559 I guess it's a little ironic though seeing as artistry was originally not much of a high paying job in olden times anyway, outside of big projects. People still did it just for the fun and creative outlet. Maybe we will just go back to that. For sure there are millions of people who make art every day with no expectation of monetary gain. Same goes for writing and NLP AI's like GPT-3, NeoX, Fairseq, etc.

@@larion2336 That’s exactly what I foresee. Essentially it will revert to a passion and not a career. There is one major difference, and that is entropy. Originally when art was considered equally with manual labor such as the Renaissance, still some of the most talented people in the world had apprenticeships and massive studios and commissions ranging from private portraits to public art adorning buildings and residences. What happens when, contrary to how it was then, no art school exists for the analog artist? If it is no longer a career path it will no longer be feasible to train students on a large scale. We don’t make harpsichords, lutes, Glas harmonicas, or thousands of native instruments anymore. There are many art forms which literally cease to exist after the last of the masters dies out. What you are saying is that ultimately when institutional training fades away from being financially feasible, we may literally revert to a level of art competency not seen since the Middle Ages. If you look at Byzantine and medieval art it is essentially cartoon stick figures with light applications of basic color, no shading, no perspective or dimensionality. Even compared to the ancient Roman or Greek fresco, pottery and sculptures it is extremely primitive. It took a thousand years to get to the point where we had mainstream art competence across the board as an accepted path of mainstream education. It’s sad to know when the last of the aging masters passes we might find ourselves literally in a medieval level of competency in the visual arts. Same with music as operas and symphony halls close there doors and digital synthetic music with no actual performers is now replacing actual orchestras. It’s bleak honestly to know we are a thousand years into the dark ages should our computers fail or the power grids get hit by a solar flare. Strange times.

@@ghost-user559 Well I guess the question is whether you need music schools to learn music, or art schools to learn art. I think your concern is a little (lot actually) exaggerated in fearing we'll decline to medieval levels - after all we have more online knowledge of how to do all these things now, than ever, and quite a lot of it is free and accessible by billions of people. The internet isn't just the latest news - it's also an archive of everything relevant people hold on to. And going a little further, I think art is just one of the first victims in this area, AI is coming for everything else sooner or later. I think artists are particularly shocked by it because there has often been the perception that creative endeavors ere uniquely human & machines would never be able to encroach on that. But if we look on the bright side, this is a transitory period, and like all transitions it's gonna be tough on certain affected people. But at the other end of it, we could eventually have 24/7 access to master-level AI art-teachers, music teachers, etc. once AI-assistants/helpers reach that point. The irony being a lot of people _still_ can't bring themselves to believe that AI is going to go that far - that it'll somehow magically hit some consciousness roadblock and stop - even though there's no signs of that.

There is no human element to this. We are NOT artists. It is art but all we're doing is prompting it. If you can create 4 Picasso paintings in a minute, you're not doing art. You're prompting. That said, I love that this is bringing original, high quality art creation to the masses.

4:30 - I disagree, artistry would never cease to exist since real art that is created by a real human being would always have higher value than a cheap, easy to generate AI art...that's simply because of how much effort a real human has to go through and put into his hard hand crafted painting or creation compared to AIs
@ghost-user559

Not really. Human art might be worth worth essentially nothing in any commercial setting. Meaning like one or two world famous artists might exist, however most companies on the entire earth will not find humans worth the cost, when they can create unlimited artworks with no employees whatsoever for 30$ a month. So that means actual artists will be a hobby, and a hobby rapidly out paced by people posting “ai art”. So even that hobby will essentially be buried by the algorithm. Art will not be a career, it will be an ancient hobby, when an intern in a three day weekend could output more art than Leonardo da Vinci’s entire lifetime. No company will hire another “inefficient creative” when they can literally press a button and get 10 comps for free. Real world art will be worthless to the average company and for major companies they will need only one artist on staff for every 100 they once needed.

@@ghost-user559 What I meant is that human art's true value on its own is above AI generated content, but sure, in the eyes of employers it would be worthless to have a human worker and instead they would simply create their art using AI, that's the sad reality of it, I as a 3D artist creator would never ever stop to create cool stuff since it is my hobby and profession despite these AI generators superiority, it just means I would have to find another profession as a job instead but as I've said, I am not intending to ever stop creating 3D content, that's my passion, that's my thing for the past 17+ years, AI will not stop me from creating great 3D content which would surely be much more appreciatable and will have greater value over AI generated content since AI gen' art is just way cheaper and easy to create and no human did that, it is like cheating in a video game...can you really get impressed by a cheater using his aimbots to get better scores much easily..? nope, can you appreciate his cheating by any way? nope as well, it is kind of the same with AI gen stuff, real skill of a non cheating human player would always have higher value and would impress people much more in the long run.

@@21EC Well the only problem is this is basically beta testing and in some cases 2nd gen, but it already could replace 80% of artists and 90% of many workflows. It can create static graphic design, and some other ones can even easily be combined with ai video animation. And you can even set 3D renders in most of these ai as well, and there is an ai in the works to turn any photo or comp into a FINAL 3D render. All the human is needed for us touch ups. Unfortunately most humans don’t know anything about quality or actual art. The struggle is real. Most people would rather have fast food garbage than cook gourmet at home, and people would rather watch a sht movie than read that same amazing book. So normal people would not even notice that we have been replaced. If anything they might like it more because no more “waiting on us” to produce content. Just click a button and synthesized anime with fully rendered scenes, ai actors and voice over in your native language and unlimited randomized storylines in any given genre. That’s literally where this is headed. On demand ai pron and movies and comics without a single human involved for endless binge watching and streaming unlimited ai bands or dead musicians with new ai albums that never actually existed. That’s where this is going. The tech and demos and betas for ALL of what I just said are already here awaiting funding. The question is how much will human life be worth to govs and corporations who already appear to hate us, especially when they literally have no use for us whatsoever. That’s what I worry about for real. If being homeless is illegal but there are literally no jobs for humans, and they have no use for us, then what. I’m not worried about how we handle that, I am worried about how the corrupt dystopian rulers of these countries will handle that.

@@ghost-user559 Well, maybe in the future every kind of job you can think of will be replaced by AI in some way ultimately (even using physical robots + AI) so in the end they might have to give people a monthly salary for basicaly doing nothing, just so they can keep having their basic needs in check and so people would only do things they love doing as a hobby..3D/2D art as well.
