My son is tab and scroll 3rd battalion 75th Ranger. He's on his second deployed at the moment. The way it was for my son was just as he said. Basic, airborne, pre Rasp then Rasp. He had completed ranger school along with airborne school and was a very inspirational individual. It was very cool to be able to see an Air Force guy in my career field go out and complete all this training.
@kevincantrell62955 жыл бұрын
When I was in, after airborne school they asked if we wanted to be a Ranger. I was a 12B. I said yes and they ripped my brand new airborne cover off my head and stomped on it. I throw my bag on the back of a truck and they made us run behind the truck from airborne school to the Ranger school. Then 3 weeks of complete misery began. The only goal, dont quit. We were treated like crap the entire time, we got about 3 hours of sleep a night but at the end you got a scroll and a new black cover. They asked you which of the three places you wanted to go and then "needs of the regiment". You were given the choice to stay your current MOS if they had a slot and you werent infantry. If not you became infantry. RIP an RASP are not the same thing at all. RIP was simply a 3 week gut check, they want to see how much crap they can put you through till you quit, whole purpose is to make you quit. If you completed it, they would send to a bat. Once at Bat you will be trained to do everything daily that you would do in Ranger school. Once you get promotable status you are put on a list for Ranger school. All E-5 and above have to get the qualification tab. Now say you go to Ranger school from regular Army you can request to be assigned to Bat but you be treated very differently till you are worthy of being there. Now RASP, Ranger Reg decided that they wanted to be like Special Forces and have a selection process so they could observe candidates for Ranger Bat. They increased the time frame and created course over just a gut check. Bat life is completely different than any other place. It is more like Marine Recon. I have seen PFCs put in charge of 1LT who came in after they went to Ranger school during summer break at college. When they finally got commissioned and were sent to Bat sometimes they were trained to be Rangers by lower ranking soldiers until they were up to speed. All you do is realworld train and deploy.

No second or third recycling throughout chances. Charlie Beckwith was the Camp Commander of the Ranger school back then. He trained the Cadre that put my father and his fellow classmates through the different phases of their training. When my father and his fellow classmates successfully completed the course, Beckwith personally pinned the Ranger tab on all of the men. After Ranger school he went to Fort Bragg Special Warfare School. After that he went to the Defense Language Institute at Fort Bliss and learned Vietnamese. After that he was sent to Vietnam in ‘68 as a young Infantry Captain. His generation are absolutely Rangers. It was a way of life for those men as well. RASP was created to supplement the lack of training opportunities during GWOT. Basically, Ranger shows up with "some" skills. It was also required to get the new identifier. RIP on the other hand was designed to get rid of the WEAK men - period. There is clearly a difference in the type of men each program produced. I will tell you as a 90s Ranger myself and a RIP instructor 2001-2002, the 90s process was HARD and the men it produced was the hardest I have ever served with. That is not to say today's Rangers couldn't handle it, or the 90s Rangers couldn't handle RASP. This applies to an Option 4 contract (Jump School) as well. Well, I graduated from Ranger school in 1982 as a Marine. We didn’t quite get the zeal that many Army students had for “ the Tab “ a frequent question asked: why are you going through this course, if you can’t wear the Ranger Tab? The Army, in my opinion, invests too much stock in Tabs, scrolls, patches, insignias, badges and the various Berets. From my understanding, Ranger school was developed to continue the legacy of the WWII Rangers by training leaders in small unit tactics and “ Ranging “ I mean the school predated the 75th Reg by what, 24 years. Graduates were known as Ranger qualified. The Army itself is the source of the confusion between “ real “ Rangers and Ranger school graduates. Just to keep it real,.. being a NCO or above without that Tab, while serving in the 75th, I’ve been told, is frowned on. An easy fix and is to get rid of the Ranger Tab and rename the School,.. if it’s just a leadership course.
@SuicidePar5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I went to the Nasty Guard after my four years in the Marines and the army sucks the dick of those with that tab. I was deployed to Iraq twice and saw actual combat as a Marine but it didn't mean anything compared to that guy who passed that leadership school even if he hadn't deployed. It boggled my mind. However, I've met some real Rangers with the scroll patch and they despise those who have tabs! hahaha

Great video! I would like your thoughts on something. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) served 8 years in the United States Army, during his campaign with tv commercials, interviews, and speeches, he always said "I served as an Airborne Ranger in the United States Army". But, John Bel Edwards in my opinion did not "serve" as an Airborne Ranger because he only went to Ranger School and never RASP (75th Ranger Regt.). He did however "serve" as a commander of a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. To this day his official Bio on the Louisiana Governors web page states "Governor Edwards graduated in 1988 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The governor served eight years as an "Airborne Ranger on active duty with the United States Army" and commanded a rifle company in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Now why would he say this? I believe it was a campaign strategy for votes! The campaign was in 2015 and unless you just woke up from a 40 year coma, Joe Blow civilian voter, from just watching Hollywood movies, views Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEALS, Green Berets, and DELTA Force, as bad ass American Heroes killing bad guys! Thank's for the 2018 update. To avoid the draft back in 1970 enlisted for the 82nd. In order to be guaranteed that unit, there was a designed Airborne Basic Training Evaluation at Ft. Ord California, that had to be achieved before they were gonna waste Jump Training efforts on you. From graduation there i was given a 15 day delay in route to Benning. Plenty of time to get drunk & a little less in shape for it. From Jump School Graduation, their was no A.I.T.. Hell, an AIrborne Infantry Unit was A.I.T. every damn day... with all the advanced bells & whistles attached, year after enlisted year. Rank came quick if your desired efforts were applied. So RIP (75 Ranger B) is RASP but a little harder and with more possibilities of being deployed.
@ericb.43584 жыл бұрын
75th Bn. Rangers have upped their training and thus their standards since the Dubya Bush invasion of Iraq. -> This is because they were so often needed to support Army Special Forces and Navy SEAL operations as blocking units or reinforcing units. Since that time the 75th Bn. Rangers have become 1st tier operators, truly elite raiders and part of the SOCOM order of battle. That means the best weapons to go with that excellent and constant training. Paratroopwer of the 82nd Airborn are very good soldiers but 75th Bn. Rangers are a full step above them in many ways. -> Like the original Rogers Rangers of the 1740s, today's Army Rangers' meat and potatoes operations is raids ("door kicking"). Usually Rangers go into an operation with a larger number of troopers than SEALS or Army Special Forces. And when they do strike it is overwhelming and is usually a combined forces operation with air support in terms of insertion and air/ground firepower.

Big BlackCock All Pastors I know teach scripture that’s found in the Bible which is over 2000 years old knowledge. They provide counseling for troops in peace and help notify the family of a loved ones death in defense of our nation. They help keep moral high so that troops in combat may have the courage to storm beaches and buildings under heavy fire. General Patton in WWII believe strongly enough in the power of the almighty that he ordered his Chaplin to compose a prayer and beseech God to provide goos weather so the allies could push back the Germans in the Ardennes. Did you ever serve in the military? Are you Atheist or Agnostic?
@steveclark65145 жыл бұрын
Big BlackCock I agree I hate taxes paying for people that lie, but I’ d support cutting off all spending to elected officials before anyone else. You also have used the word charlatan in each post but you have not offered any support to support your charge. Under Chaplin’s care I’ve already sited moral, and notification to loved ones services. To that I’ll add counseling for PTSD and moral issues associated in combat. Helping the conscience of a soldier cope with taking another humans life. Lastly I’d like to ask what lies you see in “books” you point to. I’m not a biblical scholar , but am a follower of Christ. I am pretty vague on The Torah and got much less on the Koran. I do find it interesting that you seem to fear and despise a Chaplin more than a heroin dealer when one pedals a quicker death than the other.

@Big BlackCock You're right, since you don't believe in God. However in practice, I've had dozens of non believing friends come to me in times of crisis and ask me if I might pray for them. I do. You know, regardless of the outcome, they are thankful that I , fully knowing their disbelief, was willing to lift up their concern to God, whom they do not acknowledge. About counseling, I got a whole lots of thoughts on it. I'll save for another time.

Even though being a Non Ranger Qualified member (usually Pvt to PFC) in the 75 Ranger Regiment is considered a Ranger, but the Department of the Army does not see it that way. For example, a Non Ranger Qualified private E-2 Infantryman is listed in his personnel records as a 11 Bravo with P (Parachutist) identifier, 01 (skill level 1) or (11BP01). Notice there is no special skill or job identifier in their MOS title that states Ranger as identified by skill identifier "V". Not even a skill identifier that says completion of RASP. I wonder why. In the Department of the Army's eyes, they are just a Parachute Infantryman assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment, just like someone assigned to an 82nd Airborne Infantry unit. The Department of the Army don't officially considers them a Ranger until they have successfully completed Ranger School and obtained a special skill identifier V (Ranger Parachutist). That is probably why the Ranger Regiment places so much emphasis on members completing a school (Ranger School) ran under TRADOC and not the school (RASP) ran by the 75th Ranger Regiment under the US Army Special Operation Command. Why dont the Ranger Regiment give newly graduated RASP'ers or 6 month probates after RASP a special skill identifier? You hear a lot of members of the Regiment and others say the Regiment is a "way of life," and Ranger School is "just a school." If that was the case, why do members who fail the "school" get removed from the Regiment and sent to the "Needs of the Army." What happens if Non Ranger Qualified Infantryman leaves the 75th Ranger before attending Ranger School or attending and not graduating Ranger School? Are they considered a Ranger afterwards upon being assigned to unit outside of Ranger Regiment? On paper based on Army regulations, No! Regardless of what people want to believe, a person who graduates Ranger School and is assigned to either 75th or Ranger Training Brigade are the only Rangers based on AR614-200 par 5-4. In closing, is it not what is said, but what is on paper. Im not a Ranger, but I was 71L Personnel Specialist who dealt with this issue a lot.

Anybody who has served in the 75th regiment is a ranger. Meaning they have carried out the task of a ranger. Ranger school participants do not carry out ranger tasks they have earned the qualifications of a course. It is highly unlikely that a member of the 75th who has passed RASP would fail Ranger School but if they did there would be a good reason. The 75th is a unique regiment in that personnel are constantly being judged it is not a case of getting in and putting up their feet. They can be dropped at any moment for not being up to standard. It is like making it to the NFL in that you are not guaranteed to remain there. Ranger School is not a requirement to remain in the Regiment. Ranger School is a leadership course that different branches of the military attend including Navy SEALs.
@leeglaser90426 жыл бұрын
Apparently not enough. The 75th Ranger Regiment does have its own identifier and has since before I ETS'd in 2013. My MOS on my DD214 states 11B2U. The only thing a RASP graduate is missing to get their identifier is Ranger School and two years in the Regiment. The reason Regiment places so much emphasis on school is that if you are a combat MOS you cannot promote past E-4 without it.

Having 2 of 3 brothers and a nephew that served in 1st battalion 75th Ranger regiment I'd say they are just regular avg good solid men.

Andrew Smith, maybe to a fellow such as yourself but I can ASSURE you that if you ask a Ranger he will tell you he doesn't consider himself anything special. Most people who hone skill (any skill mil or civil) to the highest degree are pretty humble usually. The reason is they know what it takes (usually thousands of hours of sweat maybe some blood mixed with a tear or two) to get to and also maintain the perishable skills to the enth degree. Anyhoo, like I said, they are just good solid avg men.

Barry Monaghan. I've had one good buddy who was an Army Ranger and earned his patch. He had some good in him&I had love for the guy,but he was in general an ass who liked his booze too much and loved to fight.If he didn't get the opportunity to fight,he'd make one. He got beat to death by 3 guys in a bar one night many years ago&is missed still today by his close circle of friends&his family. I have another buddy who just retired a few years ago after well over 20yrs.of service as an Airborne Ranger,&he is the real deal. He's one of the best,most honest,&kindest guys I've ever known,&if you are his friend he is yours&true to the end. I've never seen him start an argument,let alone a fight and even though he his much more than capable of ending a fight within seconds,he would prefer to use a few kind words to simply diffuse a situation. Of one I can say he is truly unique and extremely talented in many ways with a heart of gold. With the other I can say he was someone if you didn't know that he didn't like,you would hv.bn.better off never meeting the man. This first friend mentioned enlisted to avoid jail time and never really wanted to serve. The second buddy mentioned decided in his senior year of high school that he wanted to join&serve his country. He was so good at what he did that a few years later when he reenlisted his second time part of his enlistment deal was that he wanted to be a Ranger and then go for Airborne Ranger. He qualified and passed his first time through in everything he did because he was an extremely determined individual,he worked hard to prepare himself,&went all in for what he wanted to achieve. This same buddy has built 2 successful businesses from the ground up all on his own in the few years he's been retired from the Airborne Rangers as a result of a disabling injury suffered in the line of duty. The 1st business he built sold for a great sum of money,&the second business he's still building now will go nationwide if not further soon and will be even more successful than the first. This man gives 5% of every dollar he earns back to fellow soldiers from all branches who've been injured while serving. I just heard from him recently that even bigger opportunities for him have been offered to him and come his way,&it couldn't happen to a nicer or more deserving guy. It is a true honor for me to be able to call this man my friend,&of all the impressive people I have met and known in life,he is right at the top with a few other incredible friends I've been blessed to know and have in my life. The 1st buddy I mentioned,though I had love for the guy he was always a bit of a braggert. The other buddy I mentioned whom I also have love for,even though he loves to joke&make others laugh,&even though he knows what he is capable of he is a very polite and humble man. What I am trying to say is that it depends upon the individual and the spirit he carries within him that will determine what kind of man he will be,soldier or no. I have alot of respect for any man or woman with decency or a little good in their heart who serves this great country of ours,&I am impressed with their fortitude to be able to tough it out. Few impress me more than those whom have it in them to be able to achieve the honor of serving in any of the special and elite forces of the USA.

To further clarify this video, if you see someone with a 1ST Ranger Bn, 2D Ranger Bn, 3D Ranger Bn, 75 Ranger RGT, 75 Ranger STB, or 75 Ranger MIB scroll, they’re a ranger. The MIB one is military intelligence battalion and it’s not officially activated yet. So you won’t see those quite yet

Adam Musgrove I was told going and completing rasp is special forces and going through ranger school isint special forces

Completing RASP puts you in the 75th which is a special operations unit. Not special forces, thats a different unit.
@r3d5ive876 жыл бұрын
IlluminatedTV special forces is based out of Bragg and tend to operate in smaller units with a different mission than rangers. Ranger units are part of socom (spec ops) and typically operate as much larger units such as battalion size.

"Special Forces" means Green Berets and ONLY Green Berets. Gets confused with "Special Operations" quite a lot. Every branch has Special Operations (Navy SEALs, Marine Raider/Force Recon, Air Force CCT/PJ, Army Rangers, etc), but Special Forces is only pertaining to Army Green Berets.

Marine Corps has a RIP as well Recon Insertion Platoon. It’s good gut check for 10 plus weeks waiting for the school. Don’t lose your rope if you go
