Ah yes. Those ancient Slavic Macedonians. The antihelllenic founders of the Hellenistic period. Sounds totally legit. Sort of like those ancient Slavic British. Very credible glossing over of history. Not at all a dishonerable attempt to hide everyones mistake of ridiculously recognizsing these obvious frauds as "Macedonians".

It was among most beautiful Balcan towns in previous centuries because it is on the way of railroad Istanbul , Athens , Paris ! How , with international support is arisen after a catastrofy , it speaks that is well planed in the beginning ! In accordance with natural good views from all four sides ! The Stone Bridge is speaking how imposant town it was , and now everithing is made to suit that Bridge and the Town Hill across with Citadel ! There was bad and jealous rumorring in the beginning when that project "Skopje 2014" was finished ! Even there was a warnings that will be destroyed (every peace of it ) ,because it is "shameful"! Ha ha ha ha Now is over , and everybody is enjoying it , when they saw how is valued by all visitors from all over the World ! We forgive them because they didn't know that it was planed to rise more and more with the time challenges ! Now Skopje after 20 years is exactly like it was planed to be . Very nice world's Capital !

Hi Matt Skopje hey. What a change of scenery. Firstly, how are you? If I may, you look well in this video (well you do in all your videos but I had never mentioned this before). And definitely NO risk of rain here. Even though I was born in what I refer to as the ‘“former Yugoslavia”, I grew up far away from it and have definitely never been to Skopje although as expats we encountered friends from all of the republics that once made up the whole Yugoslavia. (If you recall the series “Miranda”, her mother likes to use the phrase “what I like to call…”). I was aware that Skopje built countless monuments and memorials and looking at your video, there are so many different styles. In my opinion a wee bit OTT. One thing that appears to be lacking seems to be the absence of green spaces (much like it is also lacking in Belgrade). Yes, in your next video you shall likely be mentioning the politics behind Greece blocking the use of the name “Macedonia” resulting in what was clearly a “fudge” - “Kingdom of north Macedonia”. But at least this opens the doors for N Macedonia to eventually join the EU and NATO. (And I guess is still sounds better than the previous name - The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia - FYROM) As always, thank you for this video. From a hot and sticky Dubrovnik Zoltán

Today's *Macedonians* have more in common genetic material with the ancient *Macedonians* than most Greeks in northern Greece, although today's *Macedonians* have been Slavicized in the last 16 centuries and today speak the southernmost dialect of the Slavic languages.

@AnastasiaAna-v3bАй бұрын
@@HeroManNicki32 Are you saying that the Slavs were in Macedonia before the 5th century AD?
@hunter2149Ай бұрын
@@AnastasiaAna-v3b I am saying that today only a minority of experts support the theory of a late migration for the Slavs… because none of the variant versions of such late settlement answers the question of what crucial factor could possibly have enabled the Slavs to have left their Bronze-Age firesides to become the dominant peoples of Europe. The southwestern portion of the Slavs had always bordered on the Italic people in Dalmatia, as well as in the areas of the eastern Alps and in the Po lowlands. The surmised ‘Slavic migration’ is full of inconsistencies. There is no ‘northern Slavic language’, it is rather only a variant of the southern Slavic… The first metallurgic cultures in the Balkans are Slavic… and connected with Anatolia… Slavic presence in the territory, nearly identical to the one occupied by them today, exists ever since the Stone Age… The Slavs have (together with the Hellens and other Balkan peoples developed agriculture… agriculturally mixed economy, typically European, which later enabled the birth of the Hellenic, Etruscan, and Latin urbanism. Germanic peoples adopted agriculture from the Slavs… The Balkans is one of the rare regions in which a real and true settlement of human groups coming from Anatolia is proven.

@@MattWhitingsEurope it was. The name FYROM however, was used primarily for international purposes, such as in the United Nations and other international organizations, due to the naming dispute with Greece. It was not the name used domestically or in bilateral relations between us and countries that had recognized us as Macedonia.
