A tale as old as time everything was good until the nomads attacked, its a terrifying cycle on how many times it happened. Just REMEMBER it ain't the settled kingdoms you should watch out for, but those horse riding archers that will wreck your home and take your wife.

I had a Georgian wine called Kindzmarauli: a semi-sweet red from Kakheti...it was the most interesting wines I ever had. The floral and mossy aromas were so strong that the grape itself was an aftertaste. It tasted ancient lol been looking to get more ever since. As unique as the country itself

That kind of claim is always more complicated than it initially seems, given that languages continually change, but not in the same ways or at the same rates, and also because we don't always have documentary evidence for each language of how long it has been in use. But every nation likes to claim an ancient tradition if they can. Sometimes it is their language.

I am the one who moved to Georgia out of sheer love for the place. All great things people are saying about Georgia are true. I will name another thing I love about Georgia and it kind of tops everything else: Georgia has the most delicious air, you cannot get enough of it. People may not notice, but the Georgian air makes everything so easy, whether you hike in the mountains, or making your way through a crowded street, whether you are enjoying abundant local feasts or just sleep with your window open. It's just easy.

Georgia, Iberia, Albania... It's funny how, despite being known by so many names that are places, elsewhere, Georgia is so utterly it's own thing. Language? Linguistic isolate. Where are they originally come from? Right there. Just like, walked out of Africa, the cradle of humanity, stopped in Georgia, and were just like, "Perfect! We'll stay here," and absolutely meant it.
@captainch6182
@captainch6182 3 жыл бұрын
well the Georgian language isn't necessarily an isolate. It's in the Kartvelian family which includes a few more languages such as Laz and Mingrelian. Although it's speculative, it could have a connection to Basque since of a lot of similar words and the genetic evidence that neolithic farmers came from Anatolia and settled in Europe, and it isn't much of a stretch to say they might've settled in the Caucasus as well.
@captainch6182

I've lived here, in beautiful Georgia, for 3 years now. This is how it happend : 4 years ago, i went on a short visit, to Moscow. On Tverskaya st. I passed by a Georgian restaurant, i was hungry, so i went in, to get a dinner. The food was so delicious and also my girlfriend told me, about Georgia. On that restaurant, i decided, that i wanted to visit Georgia. A half year later, i booked ticket to Georgia, to celebrate my birthday. I was in Tbilisi for 12 days. I realized, it was the best country, i've been to (i travel a lot and on that time, i've had been to 32 countries, including living 8 years in SE-Asia). I decided, i wanted to try to live in Georgia. Why?? Great people, beautiful nature, delicious food, very cheap country to live in and they have a very long nice summer, from mid april to late october. On top of that, there's so many cheap, but good apartments for rent here. I live in a 80 m2 apartment, on 10th floor, with a huge balcony with fantastic view now. Rent: $360 😃 Apartments like that, would cost 3 or 4 times more, in Copenhagen. As mentioned, i've been here 3 years now. I enjoy every day here. It's 10.000 times better, than my cold, windy and expensive home country, in scandinavia. I have no intensions about relocate, not at all. The Georgians are some of the most kind and hospitable, yet proactive and feisty people in the world. It's seriously respectable. They are so wonderful and warm and kind, especially compared to some of their neighbors, but as a nation they will never give up easily and they will always try to fight- they never think it's pointless- I really respect it. Their wine is delicious of course but their food is INSANE, it's so unique and so delicious. Delicately spiced and very hearty- amazing soups and dumplings. Great bread everywhere, for every meal. Amazing cheeses of all kinds- such variety in such a small nation. My favorite dishes are the hearty soups Kharcho and Chikhirtma, but you cannot forget their delicious breads such as Lobiani and Imeruli Khachapuri. Another favorite of mine are these cheese stuffed mushrooms which I don't know the name of. Also Ojahuri is classic and delicious meat and potatoes dish. Often Georgian food is served on a hot plate, which is awesome! Georgia has such an awesome capital, it has such an amazing soul with tons of young people and expats, it's beautiful and lively. My favorite places to visit are Signagi and really all the rest of Kakhetia. Javakheti is also awesome, especially for skiing or a mountain resort vacation. Towns like Bakuriani and even Akhaltsikhe are wonderful in the summer- and you cannot forget a staple of Georgia, Borjomi mineral water. Named after a town in Javakheti that is really nice for a quiet, relaxing mountain vacation. I tell everyone to come to Georgia, I have never fallen in such love with a nation before. It's such a romantic place. Visit the whole country, go everywhere. It is relatively affordable to see everything if you're coming from the west, and especially if you take buses. The food is great, the people are awesome, most of them speak good English. It's seriously a must see place. I've visited three times since my first trip there last year. I will continue to go back every single chance I get- I might even go to university in beautiful Tbilisi. Their tourist slogan is "Tbilisi loves you" and god damn I really felt the love

Another cool fact: in the late V century, Iberia had a king named Vakhtang. He was a great ruler and a great warrior, often wearing a wolf skin over his armor and headpiece (like Hercules wore the skin of Nemean lion). He was a huge and strong dude too, well over 2 meters in height. In battle, persians were so afraid of him that they used to warn each other by calling Dur az Ghorg a sar (I definetely butchered it) that means "beware of the wolf head". And it became his nickname - Vakhtang Gorgasal (a bit changed tho)

I was in Georgia last 6 days. My favorite thing to eat there is easily Khinkali - The King of dumplings. Especially in Pasanauri the Khinkalis are legendary. The most hearty dumpling you will ever eat - with the "broth" carefully preserved inside each dumpling (which you drink - yes there is a very specific way to eat Khinkalis!) Tblisi is of course amazing but I liked Mt. Kazbek and the monastery there to be the most beautiful place. Stunning beauty all around.. Also the Georgian folk music is lovely to hear. I was there on new year and in the city main square they had a big event and at midnight they sang "Bindesporia Sopheli" in a 30 people ensemble on stage and I had tremendous goosebumps. A lot of people teared up! Beautiful country!

I fell in love with Georgia after a random visit because flights were cheap from where I was. The first thing we noticed was the nature, as Georgians have a way of coexisting with trees and fields that we should definitely learn from. Mullberry trees can be found everywhere and sweeten the air. The wine is delicious, and so is all the food, which is a delightful mix of East & West but 100% Georgian. Fruits and vegetables all taste like I remember from my childhood. History is present everywhere, and if you go, please rent a car o even better hire a driver-guide to show you further than Tbilisi (which is a lovely city but there's much more to this country). If you love active trips with loads of hiking you're in luck, Georgia has plenty of hills and mountains to visit. You can also go to the sea resorts along the coast of the Black Sea, or in season, the snow resorts especially on the hills of Kazbegi area. Have I talked about the people? Our experiences with Georgians have been fantastic, they just enjoy life and all good things in it. I realize this is turning into a passionate touristic brochure but do yourself a favour and visit Georgia!

To be honest,some of the biggest nations in Europe would not exist now if Georgia was not located where it is. Georgian warriors used to hold every massive raid performed by Asians who wished to conquer Europe every decade. Unfortunately for Georgians and luckily for Europeans,some of the most dangerous empires in Asia have never got to visit Europe,due to the exact same reason_Georgians had to hold them,otherwise enemies would decimate them and the whole home of christianity,even though since III-IV centuries,Georgians have been following the Orthodox Church and the most common religion in Europe is Catholicism. European leaders,mostly,didn't even have any information about the threatening Mongol tribes,while each of my ancestors had to fight against 10 enemy soldiers and pretty commonly,even more.

I visited my friend Lado in Georgia back in May of 2017. My favorite place to visit when I was in Georgia was the Gelati Monastery in Kutaisi. It is now a World Heritage site. The feeling of spirit inside the chapel was so strong! It is a very ancient place. King George the 4th is buried there beneath the feet of visitors at the main entrance to the chapel (by his choice!). Kutaisi is west of Tbilisi -- between Tbilisi and Batumia. (Batumi is on the Black Sea.) At one time (circa 1,100 AD) the Gelati Cathedral was an academic center. Aspiring scholars came from all over Europe to attend there. I found the people of Georgia to be friendly and kind.

I think we are only nation to have 3 Alphabets... and our little nation has 15 centuries of continuous literary tradition. unfortunately, people in the west don't know about our medieval poetry and other masterpieces.. for example, Shota Rustaveli who is one of the greatest poets in the history of Mankind...

И сейчас Грузинская экономика живет за счет торговли с Россией.Так что ненавидят,но торгуют.А жаль.С учетом,что грузинские вояки воюют с Россией на территории Донбасса.

I loved Georgia when I visited it. Nice people and the country is full of ancient churches. Sounds like the country, like Armenia, has the bad luck of being in a central position and threatened by bigger countries. The fact that they are stable countries today is a testament to the strong will of the people there.

the reason persians called georgia land of the wolves was because that king david the fourth had a helmet which had a head of wolf in front and a head of a lion on the back so when they saw david on the battlefield (yes he was taking part in battles) they would scream "beware of the wolf" in persian.

By the way, title of Tamar the great was king, not queen. In general, Georgians have this kind of cultural feminism or whatever you call it. For example, in the language, we don't differ genders. ( He, she, they all have one word "is" so yeah, we don't have this 'they' issue ) Also, we had another female king briefly, daughter of Tamar, sister of George IV. when he died without legal heir, she became king ( yes, again, she became king and not queen). My advice for travelers is to visit Vardzia, medieval town carved in rocky hill ( finished by Tamar). And Uplistsikhe, another carved town near Gori. And Kutaisi, well, I'm from there, so give it a try ( medieval churches and wonderful caves nearby )

Feminism might have broad understanding. For example, in early 20th century, right to vote for women was part of feminism and the first republic allowed women to vote way before other western countries did. I didn't imply that Georgian culture is feminist in nature but it does have some aspects of feminism. Anyways, thank you all for informing me that it has nothing to do with feminism.
