Good afternoon Matt Here we go again. Thank you for this upload. Your weekly Sunday uploads are a highlight of each Sunday afternoon. How sad re the mosque being burned down. Seemingly there are no plans to rebuild it. Later on the same with the monastery. The more I see of Montenegro, the more I think that the country could just as easily be somewhere in the Caucuses, or one of the ‘stan republics of the former USSR (not that I’ve been to any of those places myself). I base my opinion from observing that mix of many ,different architectural styles, a bit of the garish here, a bit ottoman over there, and so on. Like in some of the other Balkan’s countries like BiH, MNE, SRB and even in HR, there seem to be many unfinished buildings that never seem to be completed. I know that in places like SRB, until you have (finally) placed a roof on the structure, you are not liable for any taxes. Once again I must highlight the obvious absence of just about any (obvious) tourists anywhere. Please don’t start advertising N Macedonia as being “the best kept secret in Europe” Safe onwards travels.. Until next time Zoltán

The marble quarry is called Сивец pronounced /sivets/ and not /sivek/. The same goes for the pronunciation of Treskavec (Трескавец). It's pronounced /treskavets/. For us, Latin 'c' is always pronounced /ts/ i.e. /tz/ like in Ritz Hotel.
@MattWhitingsEuropeКүн бұрын
That's really useful, thanks for the information. Pronouncing places is the hardest part of making these videos - many times there's no consensus! Thanks again!!

I'm a native, so I have noticed that the pronunciation of "c" and "j" in Macedonian names causes the biggest problem for foreigners. "J" is not pronounced like "j" in "jam" but like "y" in "yes". Not knowing this, most tourists pronounce Skopje wrongly. It sounds funny to us. 😂
@MattWhitingsEuropeКүн бұрын
Yeah I bet but what you have said makes sense to me so thank you very much. So if the "J" is pronounced like a "Y" in "yes", does that mean the "Y" is pronounced like a "J"?

@@MattWhitingsEurope If you don't like to say only MACEDONIA, don't eve bother coming back here! If you call yourself a traveler that likes to immerse with the local culture, you'd adapt to the rhythm of the people. Not the bloody politicians. If you are so concerned in calling countries by their official names, then how come it doesn't say Turkiye in one of your other videos about that countries name, when that country officially said that every person should address it like that. It seems more to me that you are following the western indoctrinate disrespective narrative. Anyway, we have protested the name so many times. But the politicians here never listen to the will of the people. And if you are siding with them. You are not welcomed. Same way as I wouldn't be welcomed if I called your country an oppressive colonial warmongering genocidal empire, which it was. Good day.

If that were the official name of my country I wouldn’t have a problem with you calling it that. But it isn’t so I don’t see your point.
@ВалтерРистов3 ай бұрын
@@MattWhitingsEurope My point is clear, when you visit a country, particularly Macedonia, you move among the people and probably talk to and contact with the local population. Would you address their country with a name that that don't like (no matter if the treacherous government installed it under foreign western pressure. )? Do you not feel the vibe of the locals and go addressing them in a manner that they don't like. I can sure see lots of comments from my countrymen mentioning it here. I've seen other travel channel that have no problem with this and mention only MACEDONIA in their title and in the video itself. Yet you keep pressing the matter and the disgusting imposed name like you are paid to do it. What's wrong? You deliberately trying to impose it?
@biljanafidanoska12424 ай бұрын
Your videos are absolutely amazing and thank you for that But please if you want to show fully respect to Macedonians, do not say North Macedonia. At least not until you are in the country. Macedonia would be just fine. Name change was forced upon Macedonians. Macedonians were against name change and they confirmed that with a boycott of the referendum for name change.
@MattWhitingsEurope4 ай бұрын
Thank you, glad you're enjoying the videos! I had a wonderful time and it really opened my eyes to the beauty of the country. Interesting about the referendum, why did people boycot it when they could have just voted 'no'?
@biljanafidanoska12424 ай бұрын
@@MattWhitingsEurope Because the previous Government was corrupt and they were paid for dirty job to do. To sell the Country. People didn't trust the Government. They decided to boycot the referendum. And people won. There was no credibility to push the name chage. Previous Government was prepared to do anything for what they were planted for. Name change, with that comes identity change and even more was planned for us Macedonians. Plan was for us to disappear as nation. Anyway,it is not right to bother you with this,as is not your fight. We only ask if you are in the Country is absolutely fine to call us Macedonia. Because that's what we are. Good luck with your videos. And you are presenting my birth Country in the best light. You are presenting the beautiful nature that Macedonia have. Rare are these who does that. Usually they would just go Skopje and Ohrid. But we have so much more to be seen in Macedonia. Thank you
