I was this kid, for sure (not in the literal context obv). Playing GTA 3 and Vice City growing up showcased many classics I already may have known, but also exposed me to entire new genres and music I would more than likely never gave a second thought.

This is a good performance, but I think the best live performance Deodato ever did of "Superstrut" was live at the Mississippi River Jazz Festival in 1974. That performance was recorded and published on a vinyl LP, which I have. It is truly an awesome live performance, and makes you think you are there. Tight arrangement, and the instruments are clear, alive, and distinct.

Great to see Geraldo Velez on congas! He is awesome! I saw him with Spyro Gyra several times performing in Chicago area in the years 1977-1981. After his departure, Spyro Gyra never had a steady conga player on the band again.

I met this living god of music Deodato and his charming blonde wife in 2016. This beautiful man had turned himself into a kobold that night. But who cares? God is god, so why worry about looks? He was most kind. We took pictures. It is extremely rare to be able to get oneself onto a picture with a living god.

Great upbeat song, and rhythm we could sure use more of this in 2021. I wish the younger generation would be exposed to this feel good fun music. Love the way all the musicians are playing together and having a blast. Deodato embodies the spirit of Brazil and the great music of the 70's. The Italian audience knows good music, that's for sure. 'SUPERSTRUT' CON EUMIR DEODATO Y LA BANDA MAS LLAMATIVA POSIBLE: El excelente bataquero 🥁 parece orientado al Hard Rock (como para tocar con Uriah Heep)... El señor bajista con botines de recién nacido amarrados a su poderoso bajo (padre o abuelo le tocó) y baila su Funk hermoso mientras toca.... Los metales están lejos, a un costado.... Pero medalla de oro para el guitarrista. He visto a unos 10 diferentes guitarristas con Eumir para Supestrut, pero el de este singular video, es el que más cercano acompaña e improvisa, a John Tropea, el axe man que grabó en estudio la original...Ah, Gerardo Valdés en la percusión, famoso desde Woodstock 69'. Jimi Hendrix lo llevó y tocó con él congas... En un momento se acelera y Deodato le reprende con la mirada y moviendo la cabeza en negativo... El estupendo guitarrista, no se quién es, pero en los comentarios mencionaron que es músico de estudio y que toca muy bien. Él, un momento se despista, vuelazo levitación es todo un trip esta Supestrut, pero Deodato le señala con la cabeza que despierte! Parece le dijo con lenguaje gestual y corporal "despierta mi bien despierta, mira que ya amaneció. Ya los pajaritos cantan, la noche ya se cubrió". Y resucitado o recién salido del trance empieza a tocar un peque solo (en el propio estilo de Tropea, solo este hombre ha podido duplicar en alguna manera el 'Tropea's Way')...

Al 4'25 la mirada de Deodato fue de: "pero si estoy tocando con el hijo de Tropea"... Igual fue cuando termina su solo y quita el wah (lo sabe utilizar maestro), para volver a desempeñarse en el ritmo, eso fue muy a lo John Tropea, y Eumir le reconoce con la mirada eso

One correction: it was the Mississippi River Festival. The album is "Artistry". It now is available on a cd containing the albums "Artistry" and "Whirlwinds" both from '74, remastered, and selling new for under $15. This is very important because the only cd of "Artistry" by itself is a Japanese import selling for over $35.

Emuir my friend love your music exspeically super stuct in the 70 -74 I played street band, could not read music then, only learn to play by ear trumpet Bb, only the horn section,now I still groove the Same toon,but now I study the bass guitar,it a whole lot different now than back then,I actually really learn the song, my timeing off but I need work,maybe one day one day I like to jam that one or two song with him, no money just want to jam with my brother now that be the best gift if ever bless to have, love my brother
