Drone footage captured over the weekend showed what was left of Lahaina after wildfires raged through the Hawaiian island of Maui, razing neighbourhoods to the ground and smouldering ruins.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green confirmed that the death toll from the fires has risen to at least 99 people, as of August 14.
The Lahaina fire was 85 per cent contained, after burning an estimated 2,170 acres, according to the County of Maui.

Mind boggling to see some houses and trees not touched and everything around them absolutely fried to a crisp.

Most of the trees are black, i.e. dead. Some houses got lucky yes, likely not build of wood.

my family lived in lahaina, their house was one of the first few that burnt. They said those people prepared because in 2020 they had the same thing but they got it under control. They made their house wet, installed sprinklers everywhere.

0:30 -Already construction work going on ✔ -Beach front for best view from future buildings ✔ -Local homeowners who would not sell and leave their house (which would be demolished) ✔ -Said homes being in the way of planned construction ✔ -Random rapid home fires, with some wealthy owned properties being completely untouched as they were not "in the way of business" ✔ With this being said. I can guarantee you that construction work will come and sweep all of the debris away like nothing and continue building where the houses used to be, and some years in the future this will be a resort that those wealthy people will be making money off of.

This was definitely man-made. The power company had sparks ignite a fire from their powerlines. Witness accounts and video indicated that sparks from power lines ignited fires as utility poles snapped in the winds, which were driven by a passing hurricane. If the power company knew that a hurricane was approaching with a high enough wind speed to snap utility poles, then they should have turned off the power. Yes, people would be left in the dark, but a least there wouldn't have been any fires. This is no different than the Paradise fire in California, which was also started by a faulty power line, and then had strong winds to fan the fire.

How can it be that some houses and trees not burnt?
@rjm474
@rjm474 9 ай бұрын
I think in Hawaii they mainly use wood for home construction, I would assume that most of the buildings still standing are mainly built with brick, or they just got extremely lucky. As you can see though every house that has burnt to the ground was built using mostly wood, except for the few where you can see the house is gone but the walls made of brick remain.

Only houses are burnt to a crisp, not even burn marks on the roads! The trees stayed intact and green! This is not natural at all, i know how fires look like, first thing to be burnt is trees, the marks of burning should be connected. Those houses look like they were wrecked then fire was set on the ruins.
