Ashoka= boring with nothing happening and characters being made to do nothing Deadpool 3= literally desecrated the corpse of a hero with hurried character moments and kills off or makes fun of old characters while nullifying the sacrifice of Logan in two different ways... Oh my gosh.... I think i agree with Mauler.

in a fun, creative way that creates the best intro to an MCU movie since Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie wasn't done without any heart, it isn't mean spirited or spiteful against Logan, the character of the Wolverine, or the fans of the movies. Its a love-letter to them, and to an era of Fox movies that has come to an end. Framing the fox movie universes as things targeted for pruning was actually a very clever way to both do meta commentary on the fox universe, and to bring them all together. I give the movie a pass for using the TVA even though Loki was bad, because they used it perfectly as a framing device for the movie to happen. And as much as they joke about ruining the memory of Logan, D&W feels like it's settling unfinished business with the character, giving Wade the team up with him that we never would have gotten otherwise. They even gave him his cowl, something that never happened ONCE in the rest of the series. It's wild that we almost didn't get that. Mauler has gotten so far up his own chute that he misses the forest for the trees. But then again he misses things in his videos a lot, despite making them 5 hours long. He'll complain about trivial things that don't matter, and miss important things entirely. It would be forgivable if he wasn't so smug.

Classic nerd conversation, everyone presents their points and arguments. No one changes their mind, no one hates each other. I liked the movie but actually agree with Mauler. I doubt I'll ever watch it again. It was fun but taken in the greater context D&W is horrific, and there were many moments that were damaging in multiple ways, what hurt the movie the most was destroying its own characters for the sake of plot and action.

Calling it a 3/10 is just plain hyperbolic, but it’s in line with a lot of maulers tangents recently. He only really tries to value movies based on the writing, and not the technical aspects or the more thematic elements. The technical and thematic elements are what separate movies and games from books. He’s missing the forest for the trees, and he’s too hung up on what he wanted this to be instead of what it’s actually trying to do
@sandmancinema68594 ай бұрын
Writing is what separates good from bad movies. Off the top of my head I can't remember a well written movie that was ruined by poor technical aspects. However I can name a ton of movies with great technical aspects ruined by terrible writing.
@Agent_Cobalt4 ай бұрын
@@sandmancinema6859 Depends on what you mean when you say a good movie. What separates a good movie from a good story? If you can’t have one without the other then why not be specific and just say that the movie has a bad screenplay and that’s why you couldn’t enjoy it? It’s hyperbolic to categorize the movie as objectively good or bad when every movie is composed of more parts than just the script. I took issue with the score given as well as what was said about the film because it didn’t even touch those other subjects. I’m not criticizing mauler for prioritizing what makes a movie good, but he often doesn’t even acknowledge the other bits and then gets into arguments with people who clearly put more priority on those bits. Mauler might bring up objective faults, but the damage value those faults do to the quality of the film is 100% subjective. Normally those subjective values line up with most people, but not this time. Like I said, mauler wants this movie to be something it’s not trying to be
@sandmancinema68594 ай бұрын
@@Agent_Cobalt Well your the one that separated a film by technical elements and the writing. And if I had to choose what’s is more important and more pivotal to the success of a movie. I would not hesitate to say the writing and the script. The reason the first two Aliens or Terminators films are better then the rest is the writing. Yes it is subjective. But if you’re saying a movie is good or better than another simply based on aesthetics. Then you’re prioritizing shallower aspects of film. Which your free to do so. But don’t pretend fan service or charisma makes up for terrible script. Over time and rewatches the flaws of the film will reveal themselves. Just like with Endgame who everyone loved at the time. And now people see it for the mess that it is.
@Agent_Cobalt4 ай бұрын
@@sandmancinema6859 No, I didn’t separate them. They all matter. Writing seems to be the only thing that matters to Mauler. I’m not disputing what matters most, but rather how much writing matters out of how someone would rate a movie. That is going to be different person to person, and therefore a “good movie” could change. Calling it a good or bad screenplay is more accurate Again, I will remind you that the only thing separating the media of film from books (or stories broadly speaking) are technical and thematic elements. If you think those elements don’t matter in any regard then you don’t care about movies as an art form. It’s fine if you just want to talk about the one thing you care about in the genre, but then I take issue with what is and isn’t a “good movie” Endgame was always a mess, but it does a lot of good things. I don’t think the nonsensical time travel plot invalidates the good. I take what I can get, especially when the film is a feat for the medium for wrapping up such an ambitious storyline as well as it did
@sandmancinema68594 ай бұрын
@@Agent_Cobalt No it’s not the only thing. But the most important. It’s the foundation. Everything else builds off it. The technical aspects enhance the film. But you’re severely hindered if your script is bad. At that point all you’re doing is polishing a turd. Its like trying to build a building with a flawed architectural plan. You didn’t have to remind me. Again it’s not that they don’t matter. But if the story, plot, characters on the page are weak. Guess what, you’re working with your hands tied behind your back. No at the time the consensus is that is mostly worked. Then over time it aged like milk. And you’re welcome to take what you can get and try to enjoy the good sandwiched into between poor writing like Fat Thor. Not to mention they didn’t have to make it as hard on themselves to end it. I will take a more streamlined well executed story over an overly ambitious mess any day of the week.

Exactly. I loved the movie, even though the whole thing about one character anchoring a whole planet was weak, and Vanessa breaking up with Wade was forced. Still, the Cameos were fun, Cassandra Nova was an amazing villain, and there were plenty of fantastic performances and great moments for comic book fans. Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed Deadpool and Wolverine.

I was going to write a defense for this movie saying that other aspects of the movie was okay so I wouldn't say 3/10. If we're being objective then a 3/10 to me has to have technical issues that are really apparent in the movie,the lighting is off, the mic is clipping, I can see the camera man in the reflection... but the more I think about it when I take out the cameos this movie has absolutely nothing. It makes zero sense and it doesn't really feel like they're accomplishing anything. This doesn't have to be a movie, it could be an hour long episode because it has absolutely no depth compared to the other two movies. The sad part is that the other 2 weren't that great of stories but the comedy chemistry and action really elevates what they were working with.

TLDR: MauLer: The movie is terrible. It uses key-jangling in a way that damages its legacy characters to a greater extent than Ahsoka. If you don't praise one, you shouldn't praise the other. Consistency. Gary: Whatever, the MCU is already dead... (Rambles)... Wait until you see what they do to Secret Wars... (Rambles)... I never liked Dead Pool in the comics anyway... (Rambles)... It's just a comedy... (Rambles)... 7/10... (Rambles)... You just can't say that Ahsoka is better!? The damage done by D&W to the previous movies and to all the characters is much worse than the damage Ashoka dealt. Yes, it threw a shade on Anakin and made Ashoka worse than she was in the Clone Wars, but she was never on a level which the characters in D&W once were. The damage dealt to Logal the film is infuriating, heartbreaking and unacceptable. So yes, D&W is worse than Ashoka. Ashoka is just a bad, boring non-story. D&W is purposefully destructive to what came before. Mauler won the argument, which is not even surprising. He does not judge stuff by "it was fun" and "it ain't woke". He does serious and profound analysis. Which is why he is the LongMan. People continue to make fun of him for taking so much time with his analysis, but this is WHY it's needed. PS. Listened to the end - holy shit, Gary and Az are literally saying they liked the film because of key jangling. They know it's key jangling. What is going on here. They were had by the movie and they enjoyed it.

I very very rarely disagree with Mauler, but the movie is hilarious, and I don't think Mauler ever gives credit for writing comedy, which he obviously should. A lot of writers say comedy is harder to write than drama. The death of Nicepool is one of the funniest scenes in all of Marvel. It's well written, sharp, back-to-back jokes, with two very charismatic actors giving well timed and toned deliveries, but this is the kind of stuff Mauler always undervalues. Not even the Longman convinced me after their entire EFAP that D&W is *worse* than Ahsoka.... like, what?? It's absurd
