I have lived over 7 decades and have heard many amazing voices. I have taught many talented singers over my career. Michael is just phenomenal in every aspect of his vocal art. I feel so privileged to have lived these many years long enough to have encountered this very special talent. Bravissimo!!!

Este hombre es de otro planeta. Donde otros meten 50 cortes para poder llegar al final sin morir, él lo hace en directo y sin despeinarse. OMG. Larga vida a Mr Spyres.

What a wonderful voice, and pristine technique! Definitely Gedda’s heir... it’s been a while since the operatic stage witnessed an “haute-contre” tenor of such quality.

Spyres has his new school fans and his old school haters, but I can say as an ardent studier of the tenor voice regardless of era that Spyres is an absolute master. Is he the greatest to ever do it? No. Is he one of the best singers, let alone tenors, alive and working today? Yes, without a doubt

I dont really understand why they hate him anyway. Half the negative comments seem to tell him to leave X role to real baritones, and the other half is telling him to leave Y role to real tenors. Id think theyd be HAPPY to find an ACTUAL baritenor, like what Rossini wrote stuff for lol

Poised and elegant but without lacking for passion, he kept my interest through this lengthy scene; loved it when he turned to the chorus in the Cabaletta, urging them on, before spitting out "suivez moi, suivez moi". No hint of tiredness at the end of this taxing piece. Superb!

Simply fantastic! Here is finally a real rossinian tenor, with the right high register but a good central one, too. With the right and fascinating right eroic colours for this role. It reminds me of the great singing of a Bijorling in his best period as for Gedda, too. Hope to have the opportunity to hear him live one day. Even if this recording dates just 2 years ago now, and we all know these modern voices how are easily ruined by forcing them by singing too much or by a wrong repertoire.

SAVE LOG. Absolutely! Finally a tenor with a fantastic voice full of colour and richness, worthy to be compared with the greats of the past, as well as an amazing technique. Worth making the effort to go to hear him. Although Flores has great agility and great high notes it is not a voice that I find very appealing and of course he doesn’t have a rich middle and no low register to speak of. Great for the light tenor roles but Spyres’s vocal timbre has great richness and beauty as well as immense agility and fantastic high notes. Altogether a more complete package.

It's particularly strong because it is the character singing. M Spyres is almost always right in the centre of the character and his drama when he's singing. That adds a punch to it we wouldn't get otherwise. (And it's a very good video that allows us to see this. Bravi!)

God, how beautiful! How could anyone vote this down?
@Jaaakob8 жыл бұрын
+resborzage Probably because they don't know the difference between a detail and an overall awesome effort. It is exactly the same tendency you hear and see in men and women who sit idly in front of the television, shouting curses at football players, as if they knew how to do it. Often there is an ocean of understanding between those who do and those who appreciate or critisise. Some are humble and want to understand. Others hear a slightly coarse high note and go "thumbs down".
@resborzage8 жыл бұрын
What a thoughtful argument. Do you know the tenor Salvatore Fisichella?
@Jaaakob8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I honestly think this is a big part of the issue. I also hope good singers who choose to share their art free of charge have a constructive way of taking that kind of critisism. Yes, I've listened to Fisichella many times, I really like what I hear. A lyric voice without fear, that's a voice to my tastes :) Too often, lyric singer seem to think that being lyric means singing sweetly all the time. How is that going to fit with sadness, rage, madness, exaltation? Bottom line: I like Fisichella.

Because his technique is erroneous. People 100 years ago would laugh at him.

@@digogalvaos no, he would have sung them in head voice. And the "could you do better" argument is just old, illogical and stupid, and I hope you understand that.
