Who was the greatest Frenchman who ever breathed? Napoleon? De Gaulle? Naaah! It was of course the King Of Love - Maurice Chevalier. And here he is, with poppet Hayley Mills, in "In Search Of The Castaways" - enzhoy it!

So cool to be seeing Maurice and Hayley singing Disney songs written by the Sherman Brothers together. Hayley was really good at that, especially in "The Parent Trap", in which she sang "Let's Get Together". And Maurice would then go on to sing "The Aristocats" theme, which was also written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman.

Apparently Chevalier was a lifelong Disney fan. It really is a shame he never lived to see himself immortalized as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.

I went to see this film as an eight year old round about Christmas 1962. The special effects may seem tame by today's standard but back then I was enthralled, especially by the earthquake and aftermath sequence.

Hayley Mills glowed, she glistened. She was unique.

16-year old Hayley and legendary Maurice Chevalier in a Disney movie! No wonder she had second billing in this.

That was Wilfrid Hyde-White, who played Pickering in "My Fair Lady." He had one of the most distinctive voices.

ahhh, Chevalier the great collaborator. This wonderful song captures the essence of living life under the Nazi occupation. Might as well make the most of the situation & enjoy it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! eh Maurice?
@earlbroad36386 жыл бұрын
methinks the lady doth protest too much. Besides, no smoke without fire & all of that. Anyways, I'm not poking fingers at dear Maurice. I'm celebrating an idea of him serenading Gestapo officers in late night German cabarets & making the best of a bad situation. Ouila, that's life... Enjoy it!

Chevaliier was a prisoner of war in Germany during WW 1. In WW 2 he made a deal through the Vichy Government with Germany that he will enterain French POWs in the very same camp where he was a prisoner in WW 1 and in return he asked the Germans to release 10 French POWs. His show was recorded and played in other POW camps in Germany. Chevalier did nothing wrong but even got 10 POWs free. Besides that he had a Jewish girlfriend and saved her and her family. He could have gone to Hollywood (Lubitsch offered him a contract at the beginning of WW 2 but he said he will not leave France during this hard time. It is amazing that people like Pierre Dac who fled France and who haunted Chevalier with his hate and false accusations have still such an impact.
