I bought a mauser M18 in 223 a few days ago, fired it today. 5 rounds on a 10 inch steel gong at 150metres straight away. This is an excellent piece of kit.

I have two M18 rifles - one in 308 and the other 7mm Remington Magnum. Both are very consistent and shoot beautifully. I think they are the best €900 I ever spent. A friend of mine has one in 300WinMag and it’s been kept busy. It’s a workhorse. I constantly get under 1 MOA with the 308. Would not mind getting another one in 6.5 CM. Maybe I was lucky but cannot fault the M18.

I'm very much thinking of getting the m18 stainless 308 as my first hunting rifle. It ticks a lot of boxes for me and I can always get a custom wooden stock later.
@linkchen82457 ай бұрын
Excellent review! I wonder if it has something to do with the stock, might be good to use a MDT field stock/chassis and maybe a threaded muzzle?

I own one in 6.5 prc and it is a clover leaf shooter with hornady precision hunter. I feel the finish on barrel is too thin and coated mine. Local gun shop dropped price to 450 as it drew no interest So i bought it. My gain. Would buy again.

I started with such groups, then I realized the rear stock screw was loose. After tightening both screws down, the group size shrinked. I was still not satisfied with my groups and the fliers. I changed my scope to another one. And voila. I had sub MOA groups with no fliers with almost all quality hunting ammo. So I suggest to check all screws and the scope as well.

I reckon you didnt do a good clean on the new rifle. I have 2 in 223 and 308 both adjust the trigger very well. The polymer doesnt bother me it makes it lighter. Cant be arsed to haul 10 lb of steal for 3 days in the bush. Ok for the range boys though. By the time youve put that humongous scope on the and a suppressor theres another 2lb plus. My only gripe is it didnt come with iron sights, then it is usable out of the box. Other than that its a perfect rifle for the money. Mines been soaked in a stream covered in crap and even held the tarp up for a few nights. Quality comes at a premium, go buy a k98 this is a good rifle for a good price and does a good job. 3 goods make for happy times.

It is plastic. But it is crisper than my CZ550's set trigger. If it ain't break, I am happy with it.

Thank you for the review! I’ve yet to get into bolt actions but I’d been thinking the M18 would be a cool one to start with. Mostly because it’s from the company who first developed the most common type of bolt action that so many other rifles are modeled after. Shame it didn’t make a better impression.

I've heard many good things of the Mauser m18 and it's "brother" the Sauer 100. They shoot good, they are reliable, they absolutely get the job done for a really affordable price. It's really incredible what they accomplished for such little money compared to most of the competition. I've heard people compare them to the Tikka T3x which now stands at more than twice the price. The only think that puts me off is the "disposable feeling" that you too have noticed. The plastic trigger, the weird way the barrel is installed making it difficult to replace it and the cheap finishing on the metal really gives me the impression of a product that is designed to be used for a couple of years and then thrown in the trash. That is just not the way I like things, especially my guns.

Great video! Amazing rifle for that price point. I think the M-12 starts off in the mid $2,000 CAD range. The M-98's (The K98 was the military Karabiner from WWII) are up close to the 5 digit price range. Typically this rifle goes on sale between $749 - $849 CAD. You can't beat it in that price range....even in the $1,000 range, it is still an excellent rifle. Personally, I too would have liked a steel trigger and guard, but at least the plastic won't rust (not that a steel one should if you take care of them). The new polymers aren't like the ones from the past. Many rifles now use plastic triggers, guards and groups. The internal parts are still metal. Look at the Ruger 10/22 trigger group....plastic! As is the newer triggers and guards on the 10/22. You are getting a guaranteed MOA rifle with a cold button forged barrel and a really nice synthetic stock (I much prefer a nice Walnut stock) and not some cheap flimsy synthetic stock like on the Remington 783 when they first came out, an adjustable trigger (mine adjust just fine), a three position safety, three lug bolt and 5 round, double stack drop box magazine for under $1,000. There had to be sacrifices so they had to make some less expensive components to keep it in that price range and still turn a profit while maintaining the reputable Mauser accuracy. A Winchester 1894 is well over $1,000 and no where near the accuracy of the M-18 and is also limited on the aftermarket support. As for aftermarket support, well there wasn't much for the hunting rifles way back in the day either, yet they still put meat on the table. If it's aftermarket support you want, then go with a long range tactical rifle or a tactical carbine. Again, great video, great review and very nice grouping.

You were doing very well until you said, the best caliber of all is the 6.5 Creedmore. I totally disagree.

It's not plastic, It's fiber reinforced polymer; there is a big difference. PS May I suggest that you try handloads with Lapua brass, once fired and neck sized, preferably with a Forster Micrometer seater die, Lapua Scenar 123 to 140 grain projectiles, Vihta N555 powder appropriate for the projectile and then see the results. The problem with off-the-shelf ammunition is that it needs to chamber in every 6.5 CM barrel made so the tolerances are purposely loose. Mauser is German and therefore the chamber is very brass-size particular to achieve superior accuracy sub MOA consistently. I believe Mauser assumes that serious shooters are dedicated to their craft. I get about .75 on average.

I don’t know why they call it a cheap rifle because $700-$800 is not cheap. $130 is considered cheap.

These were available in 2018(at least in the US), I think I got one of the first ones that came into the country and had to wait for it to be shipped from Germany to their distributor in Texas then to Florida. I never messed with my trigger but I think its lighter than 2 pounds, I pretty much just have to breathe on it and the rifle will fire. Also my trigger is metal instead of plastic, I guess maybe only early guns were steel? The caliber selection is much more limited in the US, we don't have the Mauser calibers like 6.5x55 or 8x57 sadly. You can use Remington 700 scope bases so you don't "need" a rail but does limit optic selection. Right now I'm waiting for their wood stocks to be available, either the Pure or the Max.

Good review, but I always find it weird that almost every American rifle review I watch one of the first things they complain about is whether its easy to modify or change!? What ever happened to just buying a rifle, scoping it and enjoying it lol.
@EpikArms3 ай бұрын
@bestestusername because most people want something nice, like the trigger or a stock ect. And generally at this price, it's always lacking something to be quite perfect
