How long is the real battery life & Flight Time for the Mavic Air 2? How far can you fly on one battery? The specs tell you the technical maximum but you're never going to get that in real life. This is not a long distance range test but is a continuous flight at max speed in Normal P Mode flying non-stop until Critical battery. I upload the flight logs to AirData.com to confirm the actual flight time, the distance flown and the signal strength for the whole flight.

The photography that we do from drones seldom requires us to fly huge distances away , so that massive range is comforting but not generally used , what is more important is the quality of the camera and the footage it can deliver. . Cheers mate , enjoyed this vid .

Can you legally fly over buildings with a drone in the UK.. my understanding is you can providing it's above by 150 feet. Have I got that right?
@petermaidment1175
@petermaidment1175 3 жыл бұрын
@@coulsdonplasterer4380 hi yes that is basically correct, unless it is a built up area, the definition of a built up area is not clearly defined. I have flown over my street and surrounding streets at 300 feet so I am more than 50m above them, but I would not fly over the town centre. I hope that helps.

Great video! That´s exactely the information I was looking for: realistic max. flight time and max. total distance possible. Most test videos give you max. range but max. distance is much more valuable to know, e.g. for a round trip where you are never terribly far away from your homepoint!

Where can i find that little thumbs up ? Could only find the big one and hit that instead. great journey ... and good idea to go the airdata.com analysis ... My Mavic 2 Pro is closer to 30 min. but that might depend on that I usually do not go full speed. But I like the distance and range for sure ... if the signal strength is good or at least video transmission fluent.

I think they could've stretched a bit more out, by using lighter internal plastics and finding a way to passive cool the internals with vents or something (there is a fan inside this drone). However then you're sacrificing things like water resistance, durability, performance of the camera and processing units, etc. I really believe that the mavic Air 2 is the ideal example of a well-balanced drone for an outstanding price. It wasn't that long ago you'd be lucky to get 10 minutes out of an aircraft without spending outrageous amounts of money.

👍🏻. Mine went into a tree yesterday... I initiated spotlight (i think that’s what it’s called), recorded some footage for 30 seconds or so. Stopped the filming but didn’t click the green X off me as the target. Next thing I heard was it chopping away at some branches to the side of me. Somehow i managed to get it out and it survived. I'm sure I'm not the only one saying that flight time differs upon weather conditions (wind in particular), speed and a few other variables. For example, one can pretty much stand still, with the cam shooting a long hyperlapse/timelapse and the flight time will be much shorter than the propagated "34 minutes". One thing to add is about batteries.. Capacity usually improves (quite) a bit over time. My first flight was about 19 minutes. After that each one was a bit longer. Now, about a month later, I get about half hour every time if flying moderately. Also, charging batteries with the hub (included in FMC) should be after the batteries have been charged by the "direct" charger at least once (I do it three times each). Has to do with the batteries being "intelligent", their "activation" etc. And yeah, ANOTHER THING to keep in mind is storing the batteries.. They are best taken care of if, after each flight, they are not kept inside the drone, any sort of bag or case and are put in a place that is dark, not humid and rather cooler than hotter (extremes are excluded - hopefully self-explanatory). What I also do is stand them up so that charging contacts look upwards. I would go as far to also say their lifetime should be noticeably longer. I know a thing or two about electronics in general but also have a few friends making their living with repairing and modding drones and the likes. If my comment helps anyone, that's great, if on the other hand anyone has anything to add, good or bad, you are more than welcome to do so. To live is to learn 😊

All true points. This video was a bit of fun; obviously flying full throttle was going to drain the battery fast; recording video also drains the battery faster too....In practice I'm getting around 26-28 mins per flight before critical battery...

If you think about it.....20-24 minutes of actual flight is awesome. In fact, with the combo you just come back, plop a new one in and back at it. Since the FAA rules require it to be kept within sight anyway that is more than enough time to get footage. Most certainly will be adding the Mavic Air 2 to my line up.

I have worked on extending the flight distance overall (not just radio range) and learned many ways to fly farther. Have made it over 11 miles and many flights in the 10+ mile range. Biggest limiter is wind. Altitude surprisingly not as big a limiter as expected. Are at least 20 points to follow to get over 11 miles on the MA2.

Signal was still strong, and landed with 30% power remaining 👍 A huge improvement over the original Air

Are you certain that a windy day will not reduce the flight time, if you're flat out into the wind in P mode, it'll try and maintain the speed asked of it, with consequently greater battery drain, and I would imagine that is not recouped during the downwind run? This is strictly guesswork on my part, but it seems viscerally wrong. Any chance of doing the test the next time the wind drops (and maybe also when the wind is high as well as a comparison?) I send my old faithful P3P out on a Litchi mission loop (24 kph), and it comes home with lower battery on a windy day..
@IaninLondon

It was actually a very light breeze on this day and it sat on its top P mode speed much of the time. So I do think what it loses flying into the wind is made up flying with the wind.... 👍🏻👍🏻

Ian when I fly my mavic air 2 do I recharge my batteries after each fly or do I wait till next fly day to recharge. Last time I went flying with my drone I recharged my batteries but when I checked them today their at 50%. Would greatful if you can explain how batteries work. Thx
@IaninLondon
@IaninLondon 3 жыл бұрын
the batteries have a smart discharge function that brings them down to 50% after a few days as this prolongs the battery life. You're best off recharging after a flight as that stops the batteries staying discharged after a flight and just remember to charge them again before your next flight if you haven't flown for a few weeks.👍🏻

A real pity that the company "lies" in that factor... At last, they need to cheat the buyers to get its product sold, but in long term it will affect the company reliability. I would prefer they said "between 25 and 34 minutes flight depending on the circumstances".
@IaninLondon

Hi Ian, brilliant review and video as usual. I have just started to get into drones from this lockdown happened and bought a cheap £100 drone to see if I liked it.....I do and I have found your videos very educational. I am now looking at making a new purchase and wanted to know if you would recommend the 2 air? I walk in the mountains a lot and it looks like it can handle wind okay. As I say, I am a newbie and would appreciate your feedback. Cheers.

Hi David. For hiking, you will need the strength and wind handling that the Air 2 has. So I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Air 2 for you. You will love it. 👍🏻

Thanks for pointing me I will the right direction Ian with all your vids! Gutted to say that I received my air 2 today, and its faulty, it has a cannot activate message at the final step, I contacted dji and its a known problem with some models that can't be repaired remotely, so I have to send it back... Was so excited, guess I'll have to wait longer, I hope their after sales service is good. Any experience with that? Will check out this video now, hopefully by time I finally get a working one I will be better prepared. Feels like such a solid piece of kit and looks great

I def think I'm going to upgrade from my original mavic air... I just hope the regulations don't change much more... Do you know how I would legally go about capturing footage inside a city... Or are the laws just too strict to be near buildings or people
@IaninLondon
@IaninLondon 4 жыл бұрын
The new regs will make it easier and actually classify the Mini as a low weight drone to fly over people. So you may think about getting a Mini for urban shots...

Hi ian Nice flight I recently purchased MA2, 1st flight was good, 2nd flight was not so good I lost signal twice at 535m and was vlos. I bought from argos I called dji and explained What problem I've had and I was advised to go back to argos for an exchange, I collect the replacement tomorrow. Have you had any signal lost with yours. I'm in Yorkshire and fly over fields they are no phone masts we're I fly so I'm assuming I had a lemon, I noticed you had a 640m range at 1 point look forward to your reply regards Rick
@IaninLondon
@IaninLondon 3 жыл бұрын
Mavic Air 2 will give great signal for at least 2-3 kms, far beyond your legal distance, but occasionally you'll get signal drop outs even quite close, especially of there's something blocking the signal like trees or a house....

@@IaninLondon Thanks for your reply Weather is bad today so not had chance to try my replacement MA2. So I decided to download the dji sim but apparently it only works on windows 10 A bit of a let down as I'm on windows 8.1. Does the spv have a longer distance than the MA2. Regards Richard

Could go no further than 2600 feet in my neighborhood even with Bluetooth and wifi turned off on this in a suburban Orlando neighborhood so WiFi interference could be a problem. However way out in the sticks I’ve gone as far as 6000 feet, but that’s it. No way near the advertised range. This all on an iPhone 11 Pro. Tried more then 10 or so times in the last 3-4 days.

the collective madness of dji owners... "how far will it go", "how fast does it go", "i just spent a grand on a camera i must put it in needless jeopardy", and my personal favourite "i obey pointless stupid rules because i cannot think for myself".
@IaninLondon
@IaninLondon 4 жыл бұрын
Bit harsh I think... it's good to test the signal strength and speed, just like you try out a new car. And sometimes the cost of not obeying stupid rules can be a bit hard, no mantter how stupid they are (and there's plenty of them...).... :)
