The first half of this video is very painfully obvious cherry-picking, comparing the worst recent games vs the best older games to try to push the narrative of "old good, new bad". Comparing The Finals to Far Cry 2, Resident Evil 4 to...Unknown 9?? Second half is you focusing on specific companies that are failing to live up to their old titles, which is fair, but it just feels very pessimistic to only focus on the bad games of recent years. There's still plenty of amazing titles coming out like Baldur's Gate, Yakuza, Death Stranding, Elden Ring, way too many to list.

Yeah, who is the Cliffy B, Staten or Kojima of this generation? Someone that is just a gamer dude that just happens to be in charge, and doesn't care about data analytics, quotas or other business jargon. Gamers dont want to see spreadsheets or how much profit this game made, just give us games that you want to play even if the developers are the only ones that want to play which apparently now isn't even the case since there are games now that have less players than the studio that made it. They used to say" we make games we want to play", lets get back to that time when devs had fun making games.

Just nonsense made to get in closer with celebs because he was a failed movie director. Cliffy B is still here, GOW, Unreal and other titles have become worse so it isn't him. We've been throwing this at them for YEARS... We still buy enough of their shitty games, and they keep making BILLIONS. This won't stop, unless more gamers start putting their foot down, and stop buying games that are poor quality. There have been flops recently, but there aren't enough of them to where it hurts their wallets. A few flops are just a risk they are willing to take, because they make enough on the games that don't flop completely, combined with the savings from taking shortcuts. Sadly, there are too many gamers that have ridiculously low standards; they can somehow ignore complete trash, and even *defend* it...

The extremely complex models, shaders, and textures that devs commit to really hamper their ability to contort facial flexes. They try to make faces look "real" without giving them actual movement and expression. Just look at older horror games with character models and monsters having their whole shapes contort and move and get mutated with complex animations. Instead, we get overly detailed static meshes for everything that the devs just can't actively work with. Instead, they have to cut the camera away during moments to hide the fact they can't animate complex motion.

@@Agent56000 Quarter century older... Back in late 80s and early 90s there was a clear difference between computer games and console games. Console games were very childish and all arcade. But computer games, mainly in PC, started to be very ambitious. What I mean, computer games were increasingly made for adults. We have very hardcore gaming back then, like realistic military simulations, RPGs and strategy games. Casual games were story based puzzle adventures but they were often extremely well done. One of the reason was that PC was very expensive, that is used for work and gaming was option so the games were made for that audience. That golden era of gaming stopped when Playstation arrived and 3D-gaming started to be more common. Same games were made both consoles and computers, and hardcore games vanished. Also game developers often didn't know how to make 3D-games properly as technology became more common so many 90s 3D-games were garbage. Many of the all time best games were made to PC in early 90s. At one point in time, top games seemed to keep coming every month. I've still got archive of games that I haven't yet played from that era but are known to be top notch, so I will play them now when new game releases are micropayment garbage.

@@gruntaxeman3740 I feel jealous of you guys. You got to experience them. I was born in 2006, and I was about 16 years old when I got to know about consoles (I had very less exposure to gaming) But honestly, modern games suck, in the sense, most do. I prefer older games. Maybe from 2010 to 2015

@@Someone_2406 Early 2010s and late 00s was indeed great time. We got Stalker - shadow of chornobyl, Dead Space, GTA V, Europa Universalis IV... Excellent games. PC game development changed mid 90s when they started to make games to Windows, and that caused issue that isn't really solved. When Windows is changed, old games break and game developers don't fix them. Old console games and DOS era games (with DOSBox emulator) are more accessible. What I mean is that old games can be still experienced. Especially point and click genre because games were originally written to game engines with virtual machines, that are ported to modern computer so they can be played natively. Nearly every point and click adventure made by LucasArts is excellent game and some of them are remastered. GOG is also selling RPGs from that era like Betrayal at Krondor. If the old game hasn't been remastered, the low resolution on the big screen is annoying, so that may require to move the monitor further away. Upcoming Civilization VII is also game from 1991 with added mechanics and graphics. Early 90s military flight simulators suffered from old graphics. So even while they are playable, I would not touch them. They were anyway delivered back then with a thick physical manual, UI is weird and needed to keyboard layout somewhere and joystick to use that fighter, so the effort is no longer worth it to be able to simulate things with ugly 320x200 graphics. But, I wish we got that _mindset_ back and similar stuff with modern gaming technology.

Even the vehicles. There's a jet in Black Ops 6 that's a combination of a Grumman A-6 Intruder, an LTV A-7 Corsair II, and an English Electric Lightning. As an aviation enthusiast, it's actually infuriating to look at a made up subsonic jet that has two supersonic afterburners that are over-under, but the intakes are side-by-side. Not only that but the intakes are where the cannons are. Makes absolutely no sense and you could not create an aircraft like that as there's no air intake and a supersonic engine on a subsonic airframe would rip your wings off if you go anywhere near Mach 1

Things that I miss. -Splinter cell Convinction and Blacklist: Ai is actually making a search by walking room by room and looking behind possible cover. So basic yet ever since the release of blacklist in 2013 only watch dogs legion managed to get it right, Star wars Outlaws made by the same company messed it up. -Ai facial animations which actually looks right. Again last time I seen it done right in WD legions. -AI on the map actually doing something like gardening cooking or whatever and not just standing or walking. 2016 AC Unity did an impressive job, Watch dogs keept the basics and many game still sucking up with it. -AI actually communicating so that the other will respond or act the way being ordered/ asked and not just randomly chatting stuff. (See above) -Ai actually calling the other one out by name: Call of Duty Until Black ops. -Ai actually capable to tell the other where the player is located, Like "behind that car, On the second floor etc" which is criminally overlooked in stealth games. Last ever encountered this in Mercenaries 2. Ever since only Mirror's Edge Catalyst managed to get as far as giving a general "Up there!, above us, down there" chat.

Dear ChatGPT, why do you think video games from the mid 2000's had better interaction physics than modern games from the 2020s? ChatGPT said: The perceived superiority of interaction physics in mid-2000s video games compared to modern ones can be attributed to several factors, including design philosophy, resource allocation, and industry trends. Here’s a breakdown: 1. *Focus on Physics as a Selling Point* In the mid-2000s, advancements like Havok Physics and ragdoll effects were revolutionary and often used as marketing highlights. Games like Half-Life 2 (2004) showcased realistic physics interactions with objects and environments as a core feature. Modern games often prioritize graphics, narrative, or online multiplayer features over in-depth physics. As a result, interaction physics may take a backseat. 2. *Simplification for Broader Appeal* Many modern games are designed to be accessible to a broader audience. Complex interaction physics can lead to unintended player confusion or frustration, so developers might intentionally simplify these mechanics. Mid-2000s games often targeted a more "hardcore" audience, embracing intricacies that appealed to enthusiasts. 3. *Resource Allocation and Performance* In the mid-2000s, game worlds were smaller, and fewer resources were needed for things like photorealistic graphics or vast open-worlds. This allowed developers to dedicate more computing power and development time to detailed interaction physics. Modern games have much larger and more detailed worlds, so developers must allocate resources differently, often cutting back on nuanced physics to maintain performance. 4. *Development Tools and Engines* Many mid-2000s games were built on engines that emphasized physics-based gameplay, like Valve's Source Engine or Epic's Unreal Engine 2/3. Developers leaned heavily on these tools to push boundaries in physics interactions. While modern engines like Unreal Engine 5 are more advanced, their complexity can mean physics systems are more generalized or modular, leading to less emphasis on bespoke, game-specific physics. 5. Trends Towards Realism Over Experimentation Games in the mid-2000s often aimed for fun and experimentation over strict realism. Titles like Garry's Mod or Red Faction: Guerrilla encouraged players to experiment with the environment in ways that weren't strictly "realistic." Modern games often emphasize cinematic realism, leading to more constrained interactions that fit the game's visual and narrative tone. 6. Evolving Game Design Philosophies The mid-2000s was a golden age for emergent gameplay, where developers encouraged players to "break" the game in creative ways using physics systems. Today, games often prioritize tightly controlled experiences, which can limit such freedom. 7. Nostalgia Players who grew up with mid-2000s games may remember them more fondly due to the novelty of the physics at the time. Modern games might feel less innovative, even if their physics systems are objectively more advanced. While modern games might not always match the tactile feel of mid-2000s classics, the focus on other aspects like graphics, AI, and world-building has led to different trade-offs in game design. Some indie developers and niche titles continue to prioritize interaction physics, keeping the legacy of those earlier games alive.
