Thank you for highlighting this. People seem to think you're crazy when you tell them that games from nearly two decades ago commonly sported more dynamic interactions than almost any modern game today. Developers have totally lost sight of why people play games to begin with. If it's not for the JOY OF INTERACTING with the media, then what the f* is it?!🤷🏽♂️

Companies realized people will buy garbage and spend more money on skins that take half the work. I don’t blame them for not caring about quality anymore. Why put work into something when you can produce half baked garbage. Sell it for 80 dollars. Then make millions from a skin that took someone an hour to make? Y’all asked for this shit. Now enjoy it.

Nahh. There are still plenty of incredible games being made. In so many ways, games have never been better. They're just not coming out of the companies that used to make great games. A ton of the AAA mainstream slop has a AA or indie alternative that isn't a data leech or battle pass ridden wasteland (The Finals compared to Battlefield being a perfect example). All that said, a ton of these older games hold up so well. Timeless. Just go play them.

I don’t care what they say, but I think we didn’t simply grow out of games as we get older. The truth is, games just aren’t as fun and immersive as they used to be. Even with all these fancy new tech and graphics compared to 20 years ago, it’s just crazy that modern gaming companies can still manage to make something so boring.

At least in recent game they have learned to program much stronger trees and building. These early games environments were so weak, nothing held together, trees falling, building collapsing. It is much safer now.

It is better for consumers to repurchase old games, that is, make a push of good old games and not buy anything new or pre-purchase. If a game is cool in 2024, then you buy it but not the others. Thus, in the end, video game creators will have to go back to making old-fashioned games with good physical history and everything else, and of course with current graphics. Thus the video game boom will return. Instead of calling 2020-2030 the worst decade of video games in the future, it will be the "best" era of video games.

You compare a mediocre modern game to absolute classics, only compare the elements that are better in the older games, and think it's a fair comparison? Modern games might actually be worse than the old ones, but it's apparent you're biased. Therefore not objective. For example, you compare Starfield (however mediocre it is) to a dozen games in different genres to show how they did certain elements better. Do you think it's objective? You expect a game as big as Starfield to do all of these things better than all other games?

When they were making Red Faction Guerilla, the devs complained the physics engine was making all their buildings fall down. Management responded by making them take architecture classes.

This is why gaming is not so exciting for me anymore. In the 2000s there was so much technological progress, so much experimentation, so many new experiences. But today? Nothing I haven't seen a million times before.

Modern games focus on thing that doesn't matter - 4K Photorealistic graphic that cannibalise game performance. Older games focus on things that matter - gameplay and fun factor.

The main reason lies with the players. Many continue to buy games, showing bias toward certain titles, which assures developers that their games will sell regardless of quality. Moreover, companies today prioritize churning out games for profit over delivering high-quality experiences.
