One of the most serene pieces of music ever written.

Brunch’s symphonies are unjustly neglected so it’s wonderful to have a fine live performance on KZbin. 7

I really love how the two passages at 17:54 and 20:59 are emphasized with those intense timpany rolls in this interpretation, in contrast to many others.

It should be regarded as one of an hidden middle German Romantic style Symphony . It's sounding so many strong influences of Spohr , Mendelssohn and Gade etc... in the background 👍 .

Oh, the performance was excellent! I was trying to say that it is the only decent one on the internet. I wish Bruch's 2nd and 3rd would get published also.

Magnifique, dommage que les symphonies de Bruch soient si peu jouer.
@VallaMusic Жыл бұрын
2nd and 3rd movements - fantastic - i would surmise the symphony is neglected with the outer movements not holding their own - material is okay but not strong enough - not expecting Brahms or Beethoven sized grandeur, but still something that hits with a bit more emotional impact - that being said, Bruch is an amazing composer and I love a lot of his music - I simply wish all the movements were as engrossing as the slow movement

What you assert as your own opinion some critic came up with long decades ago. This critic obviously had a distaste for Bruch due to beliefs, ethnicity or whatever reasons. This symphony is as complete and flawless as one can be, daresay I'd risk that it's more coherent than any of Brahms' or Beethoven's. Forget critics and just listen to the music

And yes…. Bruch was Jewish
@sage_silvestris10 ай бұрын
@@tobyfriedman-f3t he was fond of Jewish culture and music that's sure, but we don't know his exact heritage. He could have some Jewish blood in him, but probably he himself was ambiguous about it.

I heard this symphony originally has five movements.

As far as I know, only the recent Trevino recording plays the original 2nd movement (Intermezzo. Andante Con Moto).
@douglasyiuchinglok307 Жыл бұрын
@@bomcabedal So where do you think I can find the score of that movement?
@bomcabedal Жыл бұрын
@@douglasyiuchinglok307 I think it was removed before publication, so you probably need to consult the original MS or a new score if it has been published. The movement is not in the first published score available on IMSLP.

You can't always listen to masterpieces. I wouldn't want a Rembrandt on my hallway wall. Correction. I do like Chiaroscuro.
