This video shows the all new product I've released to help with preparing images for DTF printing (Direct-to-Film / Digital Transfer Film), where you want to take the transparency, the black or white, or a specific color in the image and make it fade into the shirt color as 100% ink-printing areas so the white can go under those areas and help give the adhesive more area to transfer to the garment.
A method of doing this is using halftones or dithering on the parts of the image you want to fade out to the shirt color, so this action set makes quick work of automatically removing the transparency mask, black, white, or any custom color and making it fade out with hard-edge shapes like halftone dots, pixels, lines or even the custom-halftone patterns that are included with the Photo-Tessellator patterns pack 1.

I think you're going to love the new tools on the web app and the Real-time and other actions in the DTF And photo-tessellator packages, if you haven't already seen it and tried it out.... now we can have a better interactive way to apply the conversions or halftone knockouts, and put background fades or even just painting directly in halftones... it is there in the new actions and files but I really gotta show how it works, lots of new potential to work on different parts of the design even with a different color to knock out, or fade multiple colors to halftones... I'm trying to get as much of the real-time capabilities of the web app into the photoshop actions as I can too. Also don't forget you have free credit if you purchased the actions or download products to use the web app online if you sign up for a free membership. This is awesome. Do you need to create an additional Spot color? Does it need to print a white layer for DTF, or is this enough?

So far I really searched all around far and wide to try and find an open-source or other really cheap kind of RIP software that could do it... but with my modified Epson 3800 printers I had to eventually just buy AcroRIP 11 to have a good RIP software for it to do it. If I could send the information pre-ripped to the channels independently or if it was a flatbed maybe you could supply it with two files and have it print one with color and the other with white and choke it back a pixel or two, make it a gradient, etc. I'm still looking into how to maybe write some simple RIP software code to control printers but a lot of the modern ones now are really just locked down in controlling the different heads. It's interesting with certain printers like the Epson Monochrome MCT-1000 (I think?) you could buy it and just load white DTF ink in there and have a 1-color printer for white ink without a RIP. But its usually hard to get certain color values to only send to one channel or another, or to lay down the ink the right way. So, even though it was a lot of cash I ended up buying that software just to make it easier to take the final PNG files with the halftones knocked out and make it print a white layer on top in the right % to get really bright but not pool up too thick, and then it has settings to choke the base/top layer of white by a certain number of pixels. Helps a lot with DTF because its not so much the inks on top of each other wet, its when the powder goes on it can smush the puddle of ink out around the edges before you ever press it. So I usually try to not cut the entire black/shades out of the image, but to use the Custom-Color 1 action and select only like the more darker shades for a black shirt for example, and then have the halftones cut out but brighten the original only a bit, not a full black-knockout, then with the rip software I'll also have it make the base as a gradient... so it doesn't put as much white behind darker colors and shades... this ends up with a really good effect for the halftone cut-outs... you'll have glue around edges of the dots, but as long as you keep white from pushing past them you wont see it after you press, peel, and post-press it like with a parchment or silicone textured matte-finishing sheet, at least in my experience that stuff all together can make an amazing shirt transfer. I'll be updating more of this software as well, the actions currently are already more updated than this, I added ones with white/grey/black, etc... but you'll see with the new software app combined with other things we can now prepare art for these halftone processes in realtime visually and just dial it in exactly what parts you want to cut out as the background, and make the designs really come to life as well... there's a cool sort of art to all this, using the lines-halftones and triangles and other patterns is really fun and you can make some unique types of shirts, like simulated screenprints in a way.

@@MaxChromaColor I run a Maintop China generic xp-600 twin-head CcMmYK which reaches an ok gamut with a good printer driver and ICC... in PS I run a halftone knockout routine, followed by gradient white routine. Also run a contract/expand selection pinhole routine, to minimise any capillary "dandruff" in transition areas... I notice you don't have much issue there, maybe printing at the higher quality settings doesn't throw the white down so aggressively... your work is next level!!! I'd be interested to know your thoughts on cmykogv and 99% pantone repro possibilities?

Hi and thanks for purchasing the software! Are you trying to generate the underbase white part also and does your RIP software allow you to give it separate files -- one file for the color and one file for the underbase white? There are actions at the bottom which generate a greyscale or solid white with 1 or 2 pixels choke (or custom amount), and you could save the underbase as a separate file. Then you should be able to import it into the RIP software you're using and have it line up with the color printing? I'm looking into the machine and rip you mentioned to see what I can do to help show the process more in a new video, but I think that is how it would work when your RIP does not create the white automatically or was putting a box of white around it. @@MaxChromaColor hi i ended up getting it i had 3 issues 1 somehow the spot channel colour was set at 0, 2, I never had the file in cmyk 3 the channel name from the action is different to the one i think the rip recognises so just had to change that to w1, at about 6pm last night it behaved itself so very happy because the actions were instantaneous and the choke action was brilliant , now its going back through your content to understand halftones one thing you will agree with its a heck of alot quicker now to proof your prints with dtf thanks so much again for the reply and the software you have created hands down the best deal o the internet today

@@jimihills125 I'm going to be making instructions that go over the variations in how different rips might want the files set up and named differently, or the channels colored differently, but I'm really happy to hear that you got it working between what the actions produce and what your rip software with printexp or maintop needed the files to be set as. Also there are times we need to remove gradient-backgrounds or work more than one color knock-out from the design, and the other actions included like the realtime halftones actions are set up to work differently like you can see the results and they are done with adjustment layers instead of a destructive process. I'm glad you're getting results already and you may need to just calibrate and dial things in as you go to try and get it so what you generate on the artwork is what you get in the print. Lots of printers and manufacturers are also along with the inks going to have different profiles or effects on the colors, so I suggest doing the conversions from RGB to CMYK only when you're sure of the profile or when you bring it into the other program.. maybe they have a profile you're already setting it to when converting, but I think the actions themselves work only on RGB documents within photoshop so I might check into that also to see if I can allow it run on a cmyk document without any issues. Howdy, I have just purchased this set and I'm using in Photoshop 2021/2 however when using the user selections one it changes the colour of the final image dramatically. The auto one for black shirt litterally halftones everything where in user options I adjust the levels to keep more of the image and have the edges of the artwork half toned fading to black. I just skipped through the video but don't think you went through the user selection one for black tee. Is it normal for it to change the colour of the final output? Inonky adjust the second set of levels in the action and I choose 300dpi rather than 600.

Hi David, Thanks for your purchase of the action set. You also get 2 months of free access to the web app version if you sign up for a free membership on my account, there you can use a real-time version of halftoning on an image to prepare it for things like DTF or DTG printing. I think what you can do that helps with the actions in photoshop is run the Custom-Color action but then choose the black shirt color, then it won't perform the extreme "Black removal" step where it halftones into hues and tones to create the shading (can sometimes halftone the entire image if there are no pure hues and tints and white in the image). So using the custom-color action allows you to target the black as just a color where you can adjust the levels and range during the action to pull less of the image away. I'm working on some new updates to the actions and I will show it with the new online app technique also. (edit: I just saw you had signed up, so if you log out and back in you should have full access to the site now with the DTF/DTG edition)

This is an amazing product. We're doing some testing with various DPI settings and I was wondering if you have some tips on creating a channel for an underbase. Currently I select the final print layer, contract the selection by 1 pixel and create a spot channel from it. I need to do this if there is white in the image as our RIP software doesn't put white under white. The problem is that there can be a lot of gray in the channel resulting in not enough white being printed.

Hi and thank you for your purchase of the actions and your detailed comment. It may not be shown in this video but the actions do now have underbase generation buttons that can automate the process you're speaking of where it runs after you have the halftones knocked out of the print layer, then it selects those and contracts it 1 or 2 pixels and produces either a solid-white base or a greyscale base that can then be adjusted.... since this is a feature in some RIP software but not all of them and you might be able to use the result from the actions to provide both files to the RIP software so they line up. However, there are also new actions included which perform real-time halftone conversions or effects over the original artwork and can be even more useful for setting up non-destructive repeatable workflows or adding different knockout or halftones to different areas and overlaying/knocking-out multiple different colors. These could be used for setting up a base layer as well, but it does usually require making that final selection of the print pixels and contracting to some amount. The real-time non-destructive halftones are available in the downloads included with your purchase and in the latest update to the DTF and Photo-Tessellator actions. It's also part of a DTF halftone web app available my other website for the ScreenTone Pro. If you purchases the actions you also get to use that towards free credit to try out the web app, just sign up for the free membership and I'll set you up with access.

Yes it works with the latest version also v 25, and I've added some new features now for real-time halftoning and total-halftoning of the image... as well as a whole new pattern pack of additional halftone ptterns. You can double-click the .pat pattern files to load all patterns in photoshop, or the new Patterns panel - that is photoshop's new way to load and work with patterns.

Hi yes, thanks for purchasing the actions... you can now in new versions go to a Patterns panel, its a separate thing now under window. Also you can double click pattern .pat files when PS is open and it will load them. Or drag them into the document or window area of photoshop. There are some updated files and actions and patterns included now, so I'm going about to upload some new videos to cover all of it. I'll include going over the new Patterns panel and loading them. If I’m printing a photo on a shirt will this halftone the entire image or will I need to half tone the image separately first ?

Most of the actions will only halftone a gradient of the transparency, black, white, or a custom shirt color. But there are some actions which will halftone everything, the white/grey/black actions. Also some other extra sets that come with the program like photo halftone fx or reaction diffusion will apply it to the whole image. But none of these require you to halftone anything first.

Hi Daniel, I saw your e-mail and replied to it there with the answers to your questions. I have another video that shows how to just remove transparency of pixles to 100% or 0%, and technically if you mean that files you're working with have "fuzzy" pixels around the edges then you can just use that process to clean them up and this could be considered improving the quality, but there are many factors that go with something like "quality"... so the actions will not improve the overal image-quality, you would need to control that yourself. But the transparency that already exists in an image either as a fade or if there are fuzzy pixels around edges, or a drop-shadow, etc... this would be converted into halftones of 100% opaque color and then 100% transparent pixels, no in-between ones. However, you need to ensure you don't let it happen after the action runs by making sure to be careful if you resize it or scale it again (Nearest-Neighbor is the right way to scale the image after it runs without introducing anti-aliasing again). The files for DTF need to include the transparency as only 100% clear pixel-perfect images or the RIP softwares and printers will end up putting white ink behind those areas and not look good when printed. I've got the machines running and will be showing in video more how it works in the print process and things to look out for... do you run the printing yourself?

Oh yes you can just double click the .pat patterns file, or drag it into photoshop and it will load them... they are only needed for the custom actions mode where you want to use the ones besides photoshops bitmap shapes or want to use your own custom pattern. There is also a patterns panel that can let you manage pattern files now.

Hi Phixels, thank you for your purchase of the DTF actions! Was this error in the "DTF PREP for Custom Shirt 2" actions? I think I had already fixed this in the file for version 1.0.4 of the actions, but it was still happening in the 1.0.1... I've fixed the 1.0.1 file so this bug doesn't happen there and you can now download it again and try it, or use the 1.0.4 version and it should work. I'll be showing the updated actions and features in a new video for version 1.0.4 and also how the Photo Halftone FX actions are included with the DTF actions. Thanks for catching this, I wanted to keep the 1.0.1 version in the download until I show the 1.0.4 videos of the new features, or I might just keep it included since this bug is now fixed. Can you help me with question? I dont udnerstand how to put brush preset pattern or change the dots, right now on one image they are way too small and it looks weird with the image. (for black) i am just running auto but how can i get to edit the pattern in 2023 PS? theres no preset in window panel.

You can go into the Patterns panel now in photoshop instead of presets manager. But for the actions you can choose different ones like the User / Custom actions will allow you to change the halftone type and size when it is running.

The Photo Halftone FX is an upgraded version of what used to be the Photo-Tessellator Pattern Pack 1, I added an action to make it more simple and fast to just convert the image into some halftones... but it is included with the Photo-Tessellator 2022 pack.

What should you do if when you use the auto for black shirts, it’s leaving lots of small red dots in the background where the black is?

That usually means the background is not exactly a pure black color, so you could use the Custom Color action and then click the eyedropper on the background color so it uses that color instead of true black. There is also a new update you can download that has a non-destructive realtime halftone layer that can be set to any color. If you want to use the black shirt action, you could also set levels to force the background to be true black before running the action.

You mean to install or load them? You can just drag the patterns file into photoshop or double-click and they should load. Or if you go to windows> patterns... there is a panel now for managing your patterns, and you can load them that way also. Hi Edward, Yes this will also help if you need to do some removals and rasterizations for DTG, maybe a little easier to use for DTG actually since you would be able to use smaller dots and perhaps control some print aspects more easily. I've also updated these actions and include the photo halftone fx actions with it as well, I'm currently running a lot of tests and prints with my DTF setup and about to show these actions in more detail in new videos. I want to teach how to use them in different situations and to work with the DTF/DTG rips... I will be showing placing the files into acrorip 11, and printing on an Epson stylus pro 3800 using Kodak DTF inks, powder and film. Choosing the right halftones and knocking out just the right amount of shirt color or color from the image and accounting for white under/overlay and then with DTF accounting for the glue and other variables is really important. So these actions don't necessarily gurantee you a perfect print if you dont have some things calibrated already, but I am going to show how I do things like calibrating and building a custom workflow.... DTF and rasterizing for DTG as well are very similar to screenprint halftoning but there is a lot more digital control. I have an Epson p600 DTG also but i got it used and need to see if I can get it fixed and running, because I would like to show how this does also work for DTG. Usually I am finding that I will use the black where I can change the levels lower, or use the custom shirt action with a black shirt and only cut out the darker areas, leaving the artwork colors more intact and fading more from the dark grey and shades then into black shirt color with the dots. I also really like using the Line or triangle halftone shapes and larger dots like 30 LPI to 40 LPI work better with DTF printing than if you go too high. The higher LPIs may work better with DTG instead.

I've updated the actions to 1.0.5 and fixed this issue, but it was only happening when trying to process the DTF PREP for TRANSPARENCY action when there was no transparency-fades in your artwork or image, you would need some fading or transparency in the image for it to work... to fix it I just expand the canvas during the action so it won't break, but the action would not do anything if there is no fading already. You would want to use the other actions to remove and create fades of the colors in the art such as removing the black, grey, white, or a custom color. Hi there are underbase actions preset with 1 or 2 pixel choke and you can also select the art after cutting out with halftones and choke it more. There is also a new action included which can help with detecting and removing small pieces or dots after doing the halftoning. Did you watch the video and see where you can just drag it into photoshop? Or double-click the .atn file and it loads? You should see the .pat pattern files - double-click those when you have photoshop open to install them in or just drag them into PS. Also do that with the latest action file MAX CHROMA - DTF AUTO-PREPPPER - 1-1-2.atn And double-click or drag it into photoshop when its open, it will install it to the actions panel. Watch the video to see how to play the actions on different artwork and prepare images for the transfer print by halftoning certain colors like removing the black.

You can just drag the pattern file into photoshop, or double-click it... photoshop has a Patterns panel now for installing and managing patterns also... you can look under window> patterns

It is an action file and a patterns file that come with the download, so you would just double-click the files when you have photoshop opened and they should load into your copy of photoshop in the right places. You can also manually load the actions and patterns into the panels within photoshop using the standard way of loading actions or patterns, shown in the videos.

Yes it works in the newest versions of PS, and some of the older ones... I think I show it in the updated more recent video on my channel. I just added a new DTF realtime halftoning version of it there and just need to show how it works in a new video, which doesnt require any photoshop or other programs.

Chrome is blocking download. Citing dangerous files

Hi where is it showing that, on the payhip website when you try to download files, or did you make a purchase? There is nothing wrong with the files, but it could be a generic warning when downloading the zip files or exe files. You should be able to click to download the file anyway. Sometimes chrome will have defaults for those file types: "This is a security feature in Google Chrome that will block certain types of files from being downloaded, such as EXE or zip files. This feature can be disabled, but it is highly recommended to leave it active. You can either temporarily set the security to No protection or choose to keep the dangerous file." Let me know if you purchased the product and are unable to download it I can send you an e-mail with a zip file of it.
