Most of the actions will only halftone a gradient of the transparency, black, white, or a custom shirt color. But there are some actions which will halftone everything, the white/grey/black actions. Also some other extra sets that come with the program like photo halftone fx or reaction diffusion will apply it to the whole image. But none of these require you to halftone anything first.

You mean to install or load them? You can just drag the patterns file into photoshop or double-click and they should load. Or if you go to windows> patterns... there is a panel now for managing your patterns, and you can load them that way also. I'm working on new videos for the 1.2 update and showing it in the latest photoshop version also. Oh yes you can just double click the .pat patterns file, or drag it into photoshop and it will load them... they are only needed for the custom actions mode where you want to use the ones besides photoshops bitmap shapes or want to use your own custom pattern. There is also a patterns panel that can let you manage pattern files now.

It might just be the default resolution changed and if you set it to 6.3" for printing out it should still work. In the newer 2024 Beta update you can set the inch size and LPI and see the resolution, so changing the pixel image size can increase or decrease the resolution but you can keep the inch size and LPI settings of the halftones to a value you want to use. The files when saved can end up as just the pixels dimensions and you can just set resolution and print inch size when you go to output it to a printer device.

@@MaxChromaColor I dont exactly get how to workflow should be. As a beginner it is really confusing. When do I use Screentone 9001 when do I resize and when do I seperate? No matter what I do the image size is always way bigger than the 6.3 inch I want. I resize it in photoshop but then I feel like it changes the overall print quality and end result

@@caro_d._kyhn Are you able to see the pixels width and height, and the inch size, and the DPI setting in photoshop? All you need to do is un-check the "resample" button and then you can change the inch size to 6.3 and there will be no change in quality, the DPI setting will change to make it so the pixels width and height can be printed at 6.3". A digital image is just the pixels width and height, but in different programs like photoshop you can see and set what inch size and what DPI resolution it would be with those pixels. Only when you increase or decrease the image size while having "resample" checked will it make more or less pixels and you can change the inch size and resolution together to make it larger or smaller, and choose different ways to resample.... if you don't want any change in quality then choose "Nearest Neighbor" as the resampling mode. In ScreenTone you will need to increase the pixels and DPI to get clean halftones as a separation, but in the latest update ScreenTone Eternal version these are all settings you can choose right in the app. However, when you open the file in another app like photoshop, it can default the resolution to 72 dpi and make the inch size change to reflect that DPI. Just un-check the "resample" button and change the inch-size again to what you need, and you'll see the DPI change. This is just how digital images work and it can be confusing either for beginners or even for people doing graphics for a long time, there are a lot of parameters to know about between the image size and print size and how DPI relates to that but that the pixels are the only thing really there in the image file. There are lots of videos online about image size, resolution dpi, printing dimensions, pixel dimensions, and how it all relates. When converting an image for screen printing color separations then you need to be aware and change the image pixels so there are more and therefore higher resolution when printing at a certain inch or cm size, and this allow the small halftone dots to be made of more pixels and cleaner/better shapes. If you keep your image at 6.3" but only 300 DPI, then when you convert to halftones in ScreenTone it will not be very clean dots and they will be sort of pixelated. So whether you change the image size in ScreenTone or in Photoshop, you need to just usually make it higher so the dots are cleaner, but setting it to 6.3" again when you open it in photoshop is just a simple change of the DPI or inch size and have "resample" unchecked so it doesn't change the total pixels at all... but you want the DPI resolution to be like 400, 500, 600 or higher AT the print size you want (like 6.3") so that the halftone shapes are more clean. You can split the halftones into separations in Photoshop or in the Separation Station app available on my website also. I'll try to make some videos about how to adjust the sizing and inch and LPI settings in ScreenTone Eternal and in Photoshop....but there are also a lot of videos online already about how inch and DPI resolution and pixel dimensions all relate to each other so you might want to study up on that stuff a bit also.

​@@MaxChromaColor wow that is amazing thankyou for the reply I screen printed for 20yrs and i avoided halftones lol I could never get the right mesh and angle right I printed some successful results but it was always too heavy i like dtf only for the mere fact i don't miss the screen set ups emulsion exposure film and cleaning i do feel a bit cheated because there's so many more players in the market now but that's just part of the time and you just have to adapt lol

Hi and thanks for purchasing the software! Are you trying to generate the underbase white part also and does your RIP software allow you to give it separate files -- one file for the color and one file for the underbase white? There are actions at the bottom which generate a greyscale or solid white with 1 or 2 pixels choke (or custom amount), and you could save the underbase as a separate file. Then you should be able to import it into the RIP software you're using and have it line up with the color printing? I'm looking into the machine and rip you mentioned to see what I can do to help show the process more in a new video, but I think that is how it would work when your RIP does not create the white automatically or was putting a box of white around it. @@MaxChromaColor hi i ended up getting it i had 3 issues 1 somehow the spot channel colour was set at 0, 2, I never had the file in cmyk 3 the channel name from the action is different to the one i think the rip recognises so just had to change that to w1, at about 6pm last night it behaved itself so very happy because the actions were instantaneous and the choke action was brilliant , now its going back through your content to understand halftones one thing you will agree with its a heck of alot quicker now to proof your prints with dtf thanks so much again for the reply and the software you have created hands down the best deal o the internet today

@@jimihills125 I'm going to be making instructions that go over the variations in how different rips might want the files set up and named differently, or the channels colored differently, but I'm really happy to hear that you got it working between what the actions produce and what your rip software with printexp or maintop needed the files to be set as. Also there are times we need to remove gradient-backgrounds or work more than one color knock-out from the design, and the other actions included like the realtime halftones actions are set up to work differently like you can see the results and they are done with adjustment layers instead of a destructive process. I'm glad you're getting results already and you may need to just calibrate and dial things in as you go to try and get it so what you generate on the artwork is what you get in the print. Lots of printers and manufacturers are also along with the inks going to have different profiles or effects on the colors, so I suggest doing the conversions from RGB to CMYK only when you're sure of the profile or when you bring it into the other program.. maybe they have a profile you're already setting it to when converting, but I think the actions themselves work only on RGB documents within photoshop so I might check into that also to see if I can allow it run on a cmyk document without any issues. Hi there are underbase actions preset with 1 or 2 pixel choke and you can also select the art after cutting out with halftones and choke it more. There is also a new action included which can help with detecting and removing small pieces or dots after doing the halftoning. I will be showing how to do some of those things with new videos about the updated actions and included ScreenTone DTF app.

Did you watch the video and see where you can just drag it into photoshop? Or double-click the .atn file and it loads? You should see the .pat pattern files - double-click those when you have photoshop open to install them in or just drag them into PS. Also do that with the latest action file MAX CHROMA - DTF AUTO-PREPPPER - 1-1-2.atn And double-click or drag it into photoshop when its open, it will install it to the actions panel. Watch the video to see how to play the actions on different artwork and prepare images for the transfer print by halftoning certain colors like removing the black.

The new 2024 beta version of ScreenTone has lots of new capabilities and features so the youtube channel will have the new videos public.

Yes you should be able to run it, you'll also get access to the online web app also included with your purchase. You may want to try running images at 300 dpi to test things. When you know a good action to run, then try 600 or higher resolution and try to process only the 1 image and not a lot of other programs running. Photoshop will use a lot of ram and GPU anyway even without the actions... its the image-size -- large inch/cm and high dpi that can make it use a lot of system resources. You will also get access to the online webGL ScreenTone web app included with your purchase of the actions, just e-mail me and I can give you a link to sign up, or if you already signed up you can get full access for a year. Many new things are coming in 2024... the Photo-Tessellator and ScreenTone Pro are like a combined package.

Yes you can bring the file to another editor like photoshop, and in some of the new update features you can export the separations as greyscale channels (gradients also, not just halftones)... but its 1 image per separation. So you would need to import the sep channels 1 file at a time and copy and paste into your multichannel file. I will look into exporting a multichannel file in the new update.

For $10 you can get an action that does realtime halftones like this when signing up to the ScreenTone website. The price for this is not always on sale, the video shows it was at 50% discount, but that was in 2022. There is currently a 25% off social media discount if you share it.

I think you're going to love the new tools on the web app and the Real-time and other actions in the DTF And photo-tessellator packages, if you haven't already seen it and tried it out.... now we can have a better interactive way to apply the conversions or halftone knockouts, and put background fades or even just painting directly in halftones... it is there in the new actions and files but I really gotta show how it works, lots of new potential to work on different parts of the design even with a different color to knock out, or fade multiple colors to halftones... I'm trying to get as much of the real-time capabilities of the web app into the photoshop actions as I can too. Also don't forget you have free credit if you purchased the actions or download products to use the web app online if you sign up for a free membership. Eventually that is going to all be standalone programs you can purchase and run offline as well... buying it at perhaps a higher price but it will then just include the subscription time also, I'm just working on how to make it work offline and then I'll offer some lifetime free upgrade licenses.

If you have photoshop so you can run the actions, then if the Kothari neorip software works with transparent PNG files it should work ok, you could also import the png file to illustrator and do it that way, but you may need to use the additional white-generation actions to make the white base if the rip software doesn't generate the base for you.

The rip soft wear does the under base but will your max chroma work only in photo shop ? Or an you do the half toms in illustrator

@@cindyheywood7729 The action files shown in the video only work in Photoshop, but I do have a set of actions that do real-time halftones in Photopea which is a free alternative online for photoshop. On my website I have a subscription to my web app for $10 a month that gives you access to those action files and also you can use the online web app to perform the halftone of the background color you choose. This is so you don't need photoshop but since it is an online program right now I don't have a desktop version so its a monthly cost to use the app. I just haven't shown those new features and options to the web app and actions you can use in Photopea on a new video yet.

@@potatosalad5355 Yeah we are from the same area originally, and I helped him when we started on this journey many years ago making the SimpleSeps Raster product for Corel, and we both got fascinated with the HWB Color and how to automate separations and halftones and all of that, so we both were working on this stuff together throughout the past decade... the Inkseps processing and SimpleSeps halftone interlocking and color separation things with HWB and all of this stuff was spawned a long time ago and we both kept at it in different ways, the SimpleSeps Raster Photoshop version was what became the Full-Spectrum Separator's Toolkit plugin and that is the free Max Chroma Color Blender available in the free products collection now. I wish I could show Tom the progress I've made in the new ScreenTone web app and the photoshop actions and plugins.

Hi where is it showing that, on the payhip website when you try to download files, or did you make a purchase? There is nothing wrong with the files, but it could be a generic warning when downloading the zip files or exe files. You should be able to click to download the file anyway. Sometimes chrome will have defaults for those file types: "This is a security feature in Google Chrome that will block certain types of files from being downloaded, such as EXE or zip files. This feature can be disabled, but it is highly recommended to leave it active. You can either temporarily set the security to No protection or choose to keep the dangerous file." Hi and thank you for your purchase of the actions and your detailed comment. It may not be shown in this video but the actions do now have underbase generation buttons that can automate the process you're speaking of where it runs after you have the halftones knocked out of the print layer, then it selects those and contracts it 1 or 2 pixels and produces either a solid-white base or a greyscale base that can then be adjusted.... since this is a feature in some RIP software but not all of them and you might be able to use the result from the actions to provide both files to the RIP software so they line up. However, there are also new actions included which perform real-time halftone conversions or effects over the original artwork and can be even more useful for setting up non-destructive repeatable workflows or adding different knockout or halftones to different areas and overlaying/knocking-out multiple different colors. These could be used for setting up a base layer as well, but it does usually require making that final selection of the print pixels and contracting to some amount. The real-time non-destructive halftones are available in the downloads included with your purchase and in the latest update to the DTF and Photo-Tessellator actions. It's also part of a DTF halftone web app available my other website for the ScreenTone Pro. If you purchases the actions you also get to use that towards free credit to try out the web app, just sign up for the free membership and I'll set you up with access.

Hi yes, thanks for purchasing the actions... you can now in new versions go to a Patterns panel, its a separate thing now under window. Also you can double click pattern .pat files when PS is open and it will load them. Or drag them into the document or window area of photoshop. There are some updated files and actions and patterns included now, so I'm going about to upload some new videos to cover all of it. I'll include going over the new Patterns panel and loading them. Let me know if you get it to work that way.

You can just drag the pattern file into photoshop, or double-click it... photoshop has a Patterns panel now for installing and managing patterns also... you can look under window> patterns

That usually means the background is not exactly a pure black color, so you could use the Custom Color action and then click the eyedropper on the background color so it uses that color instead of true black. There is also a new update you can download that has a non-destructive realtime halftone layer that can be set to any color. If you want to use the black shirt action, you could also set levels to force the background to be true black before running the action.

Yes it works with the latest version also v 25, and I've added some new features now for real-time halftoning and total-halftoning of the image... as well as a whole new pattern pack of additional halftone ptterns. You can double-click the .pat pattern files to load all patterns in photoshop, or the new Patterns panel - that is photoshop's new way to load and work with patterns.

You can go into the Patterns panel now in photoshop instead of presets manager. But for the actions you can choose different ones like the User / Custom actions will allow you to change the halftone type and size when it is running.

Hi David, Thanks for your purchase of the action set. You also get 2 months of free access to the web app version if you sign up for a free membership on my account, there you can use a real-time version of halftoning on an image to prepare it for things like DTF or DTG printing. I think what you can do that helps with the actions in photoshop is run the Custom-Color action but then choose the black shirt color, then it won't perform the extreme "Black removal" step where it halftones into hues and tones to create the shading (can sometimes halftone the entire image if there are no pure hues and tints and white in the image). So using the custom-color action allows you to target the black as just a color where you can adjust the levels and range during the action to pull less of the image away. I'm working on some new updates to the actions and I will show it with the new online app technique also. (edit: I just saw you had signed up, so if you log out and back in you should have full access to the site now with the DTF/DTG edition)

It's not about being more efficient, and there still is white under the colors, and it looks much better on a black shirt to not print the black ink... when the glue and ink go in the shirt with black its visible in the light. Halftoning or cutting out the shirt color mostly helps the whole feel of the transfer so its not a large square or cutout of the whole design... thats the main reason for removing the shirt color whether its with halftones or a solid threshold style. It helps it feel much lighter and more air can get thru the shirt, it also looks great and still has white under the other parts, so I'm not really sure what you mean... did you think it was halftoning the entire image even where colors and white are?? This is a process that fades the shirt color into the art with halftones, not the entire image.

You can't use the actions in the BETA of photoshop it has to be the official release version.

It is an action file and a patterns file that come with the download, so you would just double-click the files when you have photoshop opened and they should load into your copy of photoshop in the right places. You can also manually load the actions and patterns into the panels within photoshop using the standard way of loading actions or patterns, shown in the videos.

Don't forget that included with your purchase you get some credit to try out the online ScreenTone Pro DTF/DTG Edition as well.

Hi there, thanks for your question. These "presets" are called "actions" and they are like miniature pre-recorded steps in Photoshop that when you play the action (or in the case of my videos I usually have the actions in 'button mode') - so when you press the button, it plays through those recorded steps and runs different photoshop functions on your image. I sell various things like these action sets for photoshop that usually do some different specialized task, in this case preparing images for the DTG /DTF direct to film printing process. Your new printer may or may not include the "RIP" software that sets up the proper printing of images... but if you have the right software included, it can usually accept a PNG file that has image colors with pixels of any color - including pixels that are 'transparent' meaning there is no color or white there. Then the software for the printer should usually work with that file and create the proper white are to print. My action files and other software (I also sell subscriptions to an online web tool that does similar things to these actions), will help prepare the files and images into that PNG file so that it uses halftones or other shapes to simulate a fading of the design into the background shirt color. So its sort of creating an advanced texture or pattern to the transparent pixels next to the colored pixels, and the printer software RIP and printer will then be able to put down the ink colors and white ink in the right areas for the glue to stick to. Think of how some things like text or other details would just be printed as ink patterns by the printer and then the glue sticks to it but the area around the text is transparent and just remains as blank film.... the "halftoning" process is using these small detailed dots and shapes and it behaves similar to the text... the glue powder only sticks to where the ink is printed whether it is text or details or a halftone pattern of large dots of ink. What printer did you get and do you know if it comes with some RIP software?

@@MaxChromaColor thank you so much for the detailed response, appreciated! I’m getting the epson 2270 and I think it comes with garment creator, but I don’t know if that’s actually rip software. I plan to start off with doing mostly DTG, do you have this for Photoshop but specifically for DTG versus DTF?
