Holding Shift + Master also starts Step Sequencer w/o having to load Max Instruments. Provided the APC40 is setup with the correct specs. Thank yo!

@dmoates420: It does as you say: the APC-Step-Seq turns itself automatically off, if you select another track, i.e you can use several Step-Seqs on different tracks. There are a lot of other features not mentioned in the video, such as: Setting Accents, Quantized recording, Change loop length & Autocomplete (=if you double the loop length the first part gets automatically copied into the second half), Undo/Redo, Delete 1 or all sounds, Shifting, etc.

@PapaKumaMusic: Yes, you can play a beat in. Just activate the record button and play on the Clip Stop Buttons = Sound Selection Buttons ( The beat will be quantized to 16th)

I just dont get why you couldnt show the ADVANCED settings like velocity and extended beat grids? I used the instructions and they are a tad bit difficult to understand . I need to dj and use the sequencer within the set to throw in my own custom live loops and beats.

When performing live, it would be use the APC as a dedicated controller for this device, as another for launching clips. If I switch abletons focus view, the APC loses connection

I just purchased the APC mini after calling Ableton support and the girl i spoke with said that i can use step sequencer with the APC mini, thats the main reason i bought it however i cant find any info that says there is step sequencing with the Mini. Anyways ill see when it comes in the mail.

I worked with this step sequencer for some time and really liked it. But since i reinstalled my windows7 and ableton 9, a strange error occurs: when i set up the step sequencer on a midi track and push the buttons on the apc clip matrix it does two things at once: starting clips and setting notes at the same time. Did somebody also face this problem?

@MrKSKSKS: You can, but it's not really designed for it. However, if you'd combine it with some Midi-Effects, it might become a useful melodic Step Seq.

will this work with live 9.7.1 and APC40mk2 ? it seams to load up fine but when i launch the clip to start the sequencer the red rectangle does not disappear and will not sequence.

On plugging in the MKII, ableton automatically downloaded this step sequencer as a pack, but I can't seem to get it to work. Isn't Live11 supporting the sequencer functionality? The APC does work flawlessly as a regular midi controller. Great combo with maschine!
