I really want to see a mod that buffs all the other karts and bikes to be as good as the top tier bikes like flame runner, while still making them unique. Some of these videos really show what a kart/bike can do if they have a great niche, like this video with max handling, quacker with max off-road, or the phantom with max mini turbo (to be as much as a mushroom). Really neat! (Honestly handling wouldn't be a useless stat if it was doubled.)

Nope. Automatic still drifts. In fact, it drifts AUTOMATICALLY. Without button input. It doesn't eliminate drift. It's more like it eliminates handling.

The reason the automatic handling was weird is because when the sparks start to appear it counts as a drift. And the spear has a pretty bad drift stat. Tapping it is just handlings, not drift, and its why it is more effective

Both of them affect your steering in different ways. The Drift stat, as its name implies, is used whenever your kart or bike is drifting and is making contact with the ground. In any other situation, including when you perform a hop to start a drift manually, or when using Automatic transmission (to drift easily) and steering just a little, the Handling stat is used. Usually, the Handling stat becomes useless in the air. However, there is an exception: you can turn in the air after bouncing on a Mushroom Pad. Fun fact: if you go up a half-pipe and perform a flip/trick, you'll have a Handling boost + Off-Road immunity until your trick boost runs out :-)

Automatic automatically makes you drift. Which is why once you start sliding, the handling stat is irrelevant and the drift stat comes in place. Which would explain why you had to spam it.

Bit of a technical question (maybe ask Atlas if you can) but can you set the value of speed while turning to something above 1? Make a vehicle that goes at it's fastest while you sway back and forth by making the turning speed 1.15 or something?
