He has great boxing, he has KO power that has given only KOs not TKOs(and only 1 of his 5 KOs aren’t in the ufc), yet his stand up isn’t even his specialty, he has more submissions than KOs and he has a good variety of submissions. And all top of that, he has a chin, got hit with a flush head kick, didn’t get KOd and and recovered very well. And fought Emmett who is the other big puncher a took good shots from him. Now nobodies perfect but if Topurias damn close to it. Nobody is having a fun time with this guy, I know people blame the Islam KO and quick turn around but I saw this coming before that fight even happened and it just diminishes Topurias win.

I think this is the same story as Volk. Yeah he can beat him if he sticks to the game plan perfectly, constantly jabbing and kicking and moving out of punching range. But for 25 minutes he will end up trapped no matter how good he is. This makes Topuria absolute favorite for me. He only needs couple moments where his opponents have nowhere to go, while his opponents need to be perfect

I'm glad you mentioned Ilia's grappling because everyone is so focused on what may happen on the feet they are ignoring what could happen on the ground. Every time the fight isn't going according to Ilia's plan he reverts to shooting takedowns. We saw this in the fight against Jai when Ilia got rocked, we saw it against Emmett when it seems like he just wasn't going to KO Josh, and we've seen it his entire career even before he was signed to the UFC. That's where I think this fight ends, on the ground. Ilia's submissions are elite and we are likely going to see that in a week. Give me the younger man, give me the fighter that's just as elite on the ground as he is on the feet, give me El Matador via submission in round 2 or 4 the latest. Bright side for people betting on Max.. he doesn't get KO'd. He just gets strangled and is forced to tap.

I think Ilia by decision. 4-1 or 3-2. I see Max using his kicks and jabs to win round 1 and maybe round 2, this was where you talk about where you said Max can kick, jab and move while succeeding. Ilia fights at the edge of range with slow steps to match you down, a disciplined high guard and is an amazing counterpuncher so most fighters throw single shots at him and he cuts the ring very well hence why I see Max using single kicks and punches and move. Ilia closes distance off the retraction of the opponents punches and gets more close and more easily times his punches as time passes and he gets more used to your rhythm, once he lands punches, it’ll only get worse and once he times extended combinations, It’s over. The like you said with Volk and Herbert, the reason Ilia was able to land the KO is because he was too close, they didn’t have a proper escape without taking a shot and will start timing extended punches or punches on the escape so you either take those shots, try to stay stationary and counter or clinch which all 3 isn’t good enough. I say clinching isn’t good because Ilia also has tremendous Greco Roman wrestling with an amazing grappling and Ilia talked about if Max keeps moving, he’ll take him down and work off that. Ilia has a much more disciplined high guard, much more disciples movement and boxing that when he is close, he’ll work Max there and maybe force a clinch from Max where I think and like Ilia said, will take him down by round 4. If Max decides to stand and trade the first 10 seconds, he’ll fight like Volk did to Ilia and start moving in circles with one shot real quick because Ilia isn’t going to throw the kitchen sink like Max and Gaethje do, he’ll throw actual boxing combinations and extend them while closing distance.

Topuria was almost ko'ed by Jai Herbert with a kick to the dome, he held for dear life in Herbert's leg to recover. I think Ilia's ego is too big to go for wrestling, also he's in love with his striking, he keeps talking about knocking Max out, i think he would use the wrestling only in if things are going really south for him standing up. Also to wrestle a guy a bit taller than you drains your energy faster, so i think he'll avoid it.

One of the biggest factors that determine pretty much every fight is cardio. Illia has very very untested cardio. If Illia can’t impose the pace that he wants. I truly believe Ilia will win this one. Holloway can hang in for 5 rounds if he doesn't get stuck in the pocket with Topuria, but I don't see him knocking Topuria out. Topuria has been ROCKED in the past and would go in for a takedown or shake it off. Either way, I'm probably more excited for this fight than any other announced for the rest of the year. I'll be excited for Khamzat and Bobby Knucks the day of. I just get scaredy about Chimaev. Hopefully he fixed his overtraining issue and doesn't make himself sick.

(I'm pretty sure it's the same case with volk and Max) Reach is measured from finger tip to finger tip and Max has a smaller torso than illia So a lot of illias reach stats comes from his torso, and Max's reach comes from his arms (Google any max and volk faceoff an you'll see what I mean, Max has a smaller reach but his arms look Mutch longer, plus u punch with ur knuckles not ur fingertips)
