Also, I enjoy thinking of reasons on why the Aliens are cautious of the guns, instead of hating it and moving on. The Aliens are prioritizing building their numbers (and we have a very small cast so they'll take what they can get), or perhaps creating a queen, maybe there might even be a survivor that fucked them up and escaped which is why they know how op the guns are.

One piece of new lore that even the most hardcore of Alien fans can admire and accept as true canon was the Xenomorph cocoon. A lot of spoilers in this comment! Fede Alvarez really seems to love writing siblings in horror movies. His take on Evil Dead revolves around Mia and David. Other characters are there to die and suffer while David has a character arc about redeeming himself and saving the sister he once abandoned. Don't Breathe doesn't give Rocky's little sister all that much screentime, but she's still her primary motivation throughout the movie. She wants to steal some money so she can give her sister a better life. And here it's Rain and Andy. Their interactions were the character highlights of the movie for me. Andy finding out that Rain is planning on leaving him behind. Rain's worries about whether her Andy is "in there" after Andy's update, effectively "losing him" before she leaves him behind. Corpo Andy's very subdued clapback about "leaving someone behind". Culminating in Rain going back for Andy and Andy's dumb puns giving her the idea to deal with the xenomorphs. All of that exponentially improved by Spaeny and Jonsson's fantastic performances. I really loved it. I definitely agree with the criticism that the other characters fall very flat in comparison. But I think that, thanks to some very strong performances, Rain and Andy more than make up for it.

Got to disagree with max here. I think this movie is really good and definitely better than prey. The callbacks and set ups are for the most part warranted although some of them cringy like when a certain character said the “get away from her you bitch” it’s cringy to hear that BUT there is actually a set up for this earlier in the movie at the beginning that made this a great line to me. The two main characters (siblings) were fantastic , Andy was the star of the show and one of the best performances I seen in awhile. I did NOT like how they explained the alien got on the ship originally I feel like they just takes away from Ridley’s struggle in alien 1, I also did not like that the xenomorphs seemed useless and weak in this movie… I was under the same impression of you’d have an isolation type feel where you have 1 xenomorph stalking the crew but instead it was like nah we’re just going to use fodder morphs that really don’t do anything. There should have maybe been a larger crew to be fodder to boost the xenomorph threat. The very last sequence though… is amazing to me and was the best part. It literally felt like a survival horror game final boss sequence like form resident evil to dead space. It was fantastic and very creepy when it first starts the sequence. I also really like it ties into Prometheus as well. Here’s to hopes of more alien content, maybe they could do a show or movie about the events that occurred on the Romulus/rema that they were told by rook that lead to this movie. I recommend this movie to any horror/thriller fan and especially any alien fan

Remember the staff of that station killed the Xenomorph from the first Alien. And without a queen to make an unlimited amount of eggs for them to replenish their numbers, they don’t have the luxury of wasting more of their own. I mean this happened before in the second movie, remember after the sentry turrets managed to fend off a large majority of them they backed off because they couldn’t risk it. If she has to shoot in zero gravity, so that way the acid blood wouldn’t all pool to one spot, thereby decreasing the likelihood of melting through the hull.

just went and saw it today and what a huge dissapointment it was. it wasn't a bad film but it wasn't anything to write home about either. i didn't like the pacing of it and it felt rushed. there was no slow tension or build up or suspsense to get to the xenomorphs. would have been nice if they stumbled upon audiot hearing people screaming when the xeno's overtook the station and camera footage where you could hardly see what was going on but know it was something bad to create the fear in the characters and make them wonder what happend? and what's on the station with us? maybe this was a bad idea. i'd give it a 5/10 but i expected better from this and it just shows hollywood still can't get aliens right. for now alien isolation is still alien 1.5 to me. i can totally understand why this movie was going to go directly to hulu because this was not worthy of being released in theaters. the cast was fine i had no issue with them but this movie was just underwhelming to me

Never seen any of the other Alien movies. PLEASE make sure you make the drive to a high quality movie theatre with loud sounds and respectful people. In other words don’t watch this in a local mall or plaza. Drive to the theatres by the newly built communities. I LOVED IT! It was so thrilling! Lots of quiet moments that definitely need a respectful audience as well so don’t go to the hood to watch it!

Great movie, but it felt weird that the Xenomorph and the "other one" evolved in literally 5 Minutes. They established a 36 hours timeframe in the movie beforehand, which would have helped to make the evolving threat more believable, but then reduced it down to 40 minutes and everything has to happen at once.

idk if this matters, but the facehuggers are genetically engineered in the ship so maybe that has something to do with the incubation time of the xenomorph? and also facehuggers should be dead after doing it's job but we saw that it was still going for someone after being detached to navarro.

This is exactly how I felt about the movie. Word by word. I am one of those OG Alien/Aliens fans but the more I think about this movie the more I think that the movie is what it is to boost the franchise to new people. And I think it works when you think about it like that. The last alien “twist” was super not necessary and the franchise-reference thing went completely overboard (the “get away from her” line was just painfully “acted”). But overall I can’t say I didn’t like it. Because I actually did and it gave me hope for the future.

As a huge Alien fan that has seen every movie, I like *all* of this movie. Even the stuff that references Prometheus and Covenant and the "we can't use the guns" scene. Because it all makes sense. Hell, as another person said, the Queen and Ripley literally had a standoff because it knew what the flamethrower could do. I loved the 3rd Act just as much as the 1st Act.

I didn’t expect to see you pop into my sub feed with a review of this movie Max. I’m so glad you did. I loved it also. I also think it’s the 3rd best Alien movie. I was genuinely shocked at how good it was. We’ve been kind of trained to just assume an Alien movie is going to be shit. They somehow made facehuggers creepier. The army of facehuggers chasing the characters and hearing them skitter across the floors and walls made my skin crawl. I loved the scene with the facehuggers in 2 feet of water and you just couldn’t see them. There were water ripples. That was so well done. The cocoon the xenomorph encased itself in after birth was great also. We’ve never seen that before.

I'm a huge, long-time fan of the franchise I've come to realize, this wasn't made for me. I didn't care for most of the cast, but I can get past that, What bothered me most was the beat down of fan service. I was so frustrated by the end of this movie. From the uncanny valley CGI bringing back a dead actor, the out of character lines that were shoe-horned from previous films, to recycling the climax of Resurrection with the New Born (which I have hated for 26 years)...The constant recycling all pulled me out of this story. I was just depressed by the end of this, with the thought that all we have left is to recycle even the bad ideas. But again, this wasn't for me, the person that would feel this as an unabashed, unoriginal retread. It was an effort by Fede Alvarez, Ridley Scott, and Disney, using a Gen Z cast, to keep the property and all of the older movies, alive. The original movies...good or bad..were always a way to launch new, innovative film-makers. This was just an attempt to make sure the money printers don't stall. I would have completely enjoyed simply a well-done, stand-alone movie, that had compelling, well-developed characters, set against the backdrop of the Alien horror aspects. No problem with that. It doesn't have to take the big swings that Prometheus did (which I liked) for long time fans to enjoy, as long as it is well done. I just don't want to feel pandered to.

My opinion if this movie as a huge Alien fan is that it's a good version of Alien Resurrection. That angle worked for me here, and was genuinely horrifying. But I did want the bigger scope of Prometheus, and it taps into it but like you said, it's a very simple plot. It doesn't have room for that, it's straightforward. But I liked the movie a lot. I think that last part of the movie is actually what made me like the movie because everything else before that was straight forward Alien and Aliens. That third act tho...they went for it, took a risk to try to make THAT work. And it did, at least for me. And yeah I also nerded out on the world building at the beginning of the movie. So fucking cool.
@glass122 ай бұрын
While Fede Alvarez and his team can definitely make a great movie, from a visual standpoint (the camera work and cinematography are great) I couldn't enjoy this movie at all because to me, it lacks its own identity, and instead it is happy to be a "Greatest Hits type of film", where every single set piece is a call back to one of the previous films, and there are lines and even shots that have been copy/pasted into it without the proper context that made those elements work in their original films in the first place. The same happened to me when I watched Jurassic World, a movie that was so occupied reminding me how cool was the original Jurassic Park was that it just made me said "Why am I not watching the original film then? You're right, that film was really cool." and so, I just couldn't like this movie at all; the callback line to Aliens was the last straw. I'm happy for those who like it, but for me, it ended up being wasted potential. It was fun seeing Orphan of Kos getting a movie role, though.

As far as I'm concerned, there's only three films for this franchise. Alien, Isolation and Aliens. (Unless you count the Blade Runner films...) ... and no, I don't care that Isolation was a game. It was still a brilliant cinematic experience with a story far better than any other film after the first two.
@voidofsilence66162 ай бұрын
I have watched pretty much all the Alien movies. First and second were great movies and I would agree that the second is the absolute best one. The third movie, obviously, was when the franchise started straying away from what made the movies great. And Resurrection is just bad. Just bad and only exists just to say "hey our main is still dead but not really but is also the new mother for a new species of xenomorphs? Idk." I enjoyed Prometheus considering it brought me intrigue on how the Aliens came to be. And Covenant I do not remember much but I remember hating the android throughout the film. If Max says Romulus is good, then I look forward to watching it in the future!
