As a kid, I used to play Max Payne 1 and 2 all the time. Gradually the routine stopped anyways. When Max Payne 3 came out, the physics and realism had me stunned and remained only hazy memories for part one and two. This very day I came across this video and had a nostalgic session with myself of playing MP1 and 2. And I figured out that effects of MP1 and 2 were so precious with all that shooting with out any recoild and dodging and stuff. Thanks for the video my friend. Loved these EE's.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning here, but a lot of little things in this game carried all the way over to Max Payne 3 in very small ways. For example, in the first level, there are adds for Kong Whisky, and in Max Payne 3, Max's drink of choice is... Kong Whisky.

I am a huge fan of all 3 Max Payne games. I figured none of these easter eggs would surprise me. However the Dopefish easter-egg i can't remember seeing even though ive played all 3 games so many times through that i've lost count. I do seam to recall seeing the texture file for Dopefish when i was creating levels for Max Payne 1 mods back in the day. I always extracted textures from all the levels so that i would have something to work with.

Such a shame they don't make ga-... No, artworks like this anymore. It'd be a profanity to call this piece of art "a game". It exceeded the expectations back in 2001 as far as graphics go, and even to this day (to the people that play it the first time, if they still exist) it exceeds expectation as far as story goes. The mix of gameplay, with the (back then) newly-found bullet time, story telling, graphic novel, music and incredibly detailed descriptions from a wonderful narration, makes this game one I'd go back and play again any day of the week. The only game I'd say is comparable to this one would be Mafia: The City Of Lost Haven. (the first one, not the bullshit 2nd one)

comfortablynumb1998 Maybe I have been a bit too critic about the second one, but honestly, in my (extremely subjective) opinion, it doesn't come close to the first one. I grew up with the first one and got left with an empty stomach after finding out Sam betrayed Tom and Paulie and even worse after seeing Tom die, although it was when he was a lot older. Or the special feeling you'd get while completing the missions during the night, when it would rain like hell and you had to go smuggle whiskey or find cars. That kind of feelings I didn't get from Mafia 2. But I guess I could give it a second go...

It's with full pride that i call this a game, it couldn't be this good in any other media (they kinda proved this with that abomination they call a movie). There are also other games that only work within this universe, like Ico and Shadow of The Colossus. Those pieces can only exist as games and that proves the potential this medium has. To see people like you, that still think that games can't or shouldn't be art and call that a "profanity", makes me really sad. Actually, it's kinda make me lose hope. If you, that enjoyed the game, can't recognize this medium, then why should more close-minded people do it?

I love a lot of the interactions in Max Payne, even shooting some things or interacting with them for the sake of it or taking a lot of time to do something would trigger dialogue that would feel part of Max's inner monologue. Even the exit prompts in Max Payne 3 are brilliant.

In one of the levels, you go into a room with a guy inside the toilet. On the kitchen counter there is an ingram which you can use to shoot him as he comes out. this is a reference to john travolta's character on pulp fiction. He leaves his ingram on the kitchen counter and bruce willis shoots him dead with it as he comes out of the toilet.

They are 2 places (not really easter eggs) where you can find "hidden ammo"... First, in RAGNAROK --- when you approach the second floor terrace with the control panel Pyrotechnics, there are two beveled out balconys where when you jump into the right one, you will find quite some ammo for the Ingram. Second, theres a berretta or Eagle cought in a net in the the mission when you play the level with the angry pedestrian :)
