Well, I installed the Traxxion engine guard today and this is what I found: 1. Shipping was fast but I do live in Georgia. 2. Item was packed very secure. 3. Everything including instructions was included along with three extra screws. 4. Brackets were marked well enough that a teenager could have installed them. 5. Plate will only install one way. 6. I did mount brackets to bike and added plate which was easier for me. 7. KZbin video was step by step and easy to follow. 8. After mounting I went for about a 100 mile ride, really short to town and back. No effect on the bike temperature at all. No issues while riding. Almost like it was not there (Except for the peace of mind knowing my engine is protected). 9. Upon returning home I let the bike cool off. 10. I removed the plate only and inspected it for any oil at all, none found. Plate was clean when I installed and clear when I checked it. 11. I did loose one screw that holds the plate on, not sure why but with the extras that were provided that issue has been solved and I will be ordering extras tonight. 12. Only issue I had on the install was torking the back bolts, there was just not enough room with bike on center stand. My tork wrench is not a baby wrench. It don’t leak so I’m good… Final thought: spend your money and get this high quality pan that will save you engine. Worth every penny.. I watched the crash videos and this is why I bought this product. Side note if you are concerned about oil changes don’t be, simple fast and easy to remove the plate and leave the brackets in place. Thank y’all for supporting the military too. Michael S. Wood, US Army Retired…

I placed my order (also ordered the steering safety pin) and it was delivered to Australia in lightning speed, a big thanks to Dan for helping me thought the process of getting one for my 2023 non tour, and a big thanks to Max for his foresight in developing it. I fitted using his video and had no issues at all, a very easy task to perform. Tricky but saved a bunch of time. Hardest was the hooked tab but I figured it out.

@@faisal155100 that can only be fixed by a highly skilled professional. It is unlikely you cross threaded the bolt, so a pro should be able to get the broken piece out without having to disassembled the engine. On your install video at 9 min., 15 sec., your camera shows a good view of the engine's front casting and aluminum cases with wiring. I'm assuming they're sensors ? The two biggest hassles were the plastic, which I put back on in the wrong order, and getting my torque wrench on the rear bolts. I can’t believe you and wing stuff installions don’t use blue loc tite on these bolts? 😮
@Traxxion Жыл бұрын
Why would you put Loctite on the bolts? We don't put Loctite on anything except the pseudo steering crown nut. We recommend the opposite... anti-seize. Since the bolts are subjected to the elements, you don't want them to face any corrosion bonding them to the brackets. If you put Loctite on the bolts going into the actual engine, that's a disaster. You should never put Loctite on any bolt going into the engine. Honda doesn't use it, and you shouldn't either. It's completely unnecessary. It makes a mess of the threads, leaves crumbs and garbage in your engine. We've been servicing motorcycles at my shop for 25 years, and my personally for 40+. I never use a drop of that stuff. ESPECIALLY on something that you will be servicing frequently. Never heard of a single bolt falling out of any motorcycle myself or my company has worked on.
@jameshine7840 Жыл бұрын
@@Traxxion Honda also uses torque specs on all there bolts. The average do it yourself guy doesn’t either have a torque wrench or the Manuel with the torque specs. I’ve never had an issue using loc tite or anti seize. There’s a lot of vibration that goes on,, but if your happy not using either, I’m just saying.

Can you address the oil seeping that Cruiseman experienced after installation?
@Traxxion3 жыл бұрын
If you take your bolts out and leave them out for a long time, like say you're a guy like me making the parts, or a guy like Cruiseman producing a video then oil can seep between the case. When you tighten the bolts, it will squish the oil out. If you spray it clean it should be gone for good. I haven't had any other reports of this, as almost no one would have their bolts out as long as Cruiseman (or I) did. When I first was trying to design a guard, I stopped because I was trying to use all 3 bolts, and if I loosened two next to each other, oil actually began leaking promptly and considerably, which is why I gave up initially. Four years ago, my bike actually poured oil, and has been dry ever since.

Hey Max. Just took delivery of my 2022 Goldwing DCT in the matte nightshade blue color. Looks so much better in person. Anyways, I have received the engine case guard and have been waiting for clarification on a couple of potential issues before installing it (as well as my center stand). the issues I'm waiting to hear about are the following. First, oil seepage from removing the front engine bolts. How big a problem is this? Is it just a matter of maybe adding a little more torque? Second is the rear bracket possibly interfering with drain plug removal on the DCT. Cruiseman said something about removing the rear bracket to do the oil change, but don't really think that's a great solution to remove to engine case bolts for every oil change. If this is an issue, will you be swapping the rear brackets out, or having customers modify (grind out a bit) the bracket. Look forward to hearing back, and keep up the great work Max. Also looking forward to what you come up with for tip over protection. Thanks.

If you look at your rear bracket, there is a notch for the drain plug. If it is fully anodized black, it's the first ones we shipped. You can just grind that same path fully through and that's all that's required if you have the tools to do that. If you have a bracket with with a silver pass through it, then we have already milled that path here. If you don't have the tools to grind it, we'll swap it out.

Max, There have been some reports of oil leaking from the engine where the engine bolts were removed (at the front or rear brackets). Is this anything to be concerned about? I understand that the replacement bolts are to be installed at 18 ft lbs torque. Will this prevent any leaks? Also, some have reported the holes in the guard not lining up with the mounting brackets (perhaps after the engine is warmed up). Has this been addressed or is it uncommon? If it is an issue, would widening the 3 holes in the rear of the guard solve the problem? I purchased your engine guard for my 2018 Goldwing Tour and can't wait to install it, but am concerned about any leaks. Thanks!

We have heard of a couple of people with the one tight bolt. Loosening all the bolts seems to be the quick cure. We are studying today if there may be some tolerance between cases, if so, it will only require a single 8mm washer as a fine tuning shim to adjust this.

Hi , Max. Does this plate impact the cooling of any engine or transmission components. It looks like it would restrict air flow, but I’m not familiar enough with the drivetrain to know. Thanks.
@Traxxion Жыл бұрын
No. If anything, it's a giant cooling fin!
@richardkopp2949 Жыл бұрын
It looks very sturdy, but that hard ledge in the front will catch on a curb, why not have the front of the plate curved like a skid plate
@Traxxion Жыл бұрын
It doesn't, it hasn't, and won't catch on a curb. These plates are on bikes all over the world at this point, used in every possible environment. No one has ever driven the front of their engine into a curb that I know of, and I would be the first to know! The plate can't curve up because of the bodywork it is also functioning to protect.

should the main mounting bolts to the block use Blue thread locker & torqued to 24Nm ?
@Traxxion2 жыл бұрын
NO LOCTITE. Never put loctite on anything going into an engine case. There's absolutely no reason, and they aren't built that way. 18 ft/lbs according to the Honda Manual, which sounds like a lot to me.

Here's an idea...instead of black anodized, why not LineX the cover, or just the side that faces away from the bike. A thick coating of LineX would really make it bullet proof and stop that "tinking" sound that another user reported in his comments. If I ever get one of the new wings, I'll definitely have this product. Nice design Max!

He said you'll just need to remove the 7 flat head screws to get the plate off to access the oil filter and drains bolts.

Like Al T noted: The installation is one time. After that, you only remove the 7 flat head screws and the pan comes off for service.

I have a 2022 GW and am very interested in this product. Question: since the two 75mm and two 65mm bolts cross a gasket-sealing surface (did I say that right?), is there a recommended torque spec for those bolts? Thanks.

Just plain 8 mm bolt torque, same as Honda uses... 18ft/lbs.
