Hey sorry to say that the SU57 in this film/movie has totally fake specifications and information about this aircraft, the SU57 has already entered it service on 2020 which has now totally built 16 of them serial model and which is totally far more different from the prototype model which is an test aircraft and the first serial production model of SU57 has improved the Stealth capabilities, even that It also reduced the RCS by applying 30% RAM coating on it, making it more clear surface and stealthily feature than the prototype model (test aircraft model). The stupid thing is that on the movie, The main bay on the SU57 carries only 4 missile which is actually an 4 Active Radar missile as known as K 77M and the fake thing is that the Active radar missile was destroyed or blown up by a flares (that scene was totally unreal) and second thing the side bay which was not shown on the movie is that the SU57 carries an 2 K 74M2 infrared missile which is actually an offbored missile similar or more like an AIM 9X able to give an 90* angle to launch the missile, even that the SU57 has a helmet mounted display able to lock on the moving target. The SU57 has 2 DIRCM aka Directional infrared countermeasures which was made to dodge or outtake an infrared missile (with or with out using flare). The target system of SU57 doesn't get disturb though the terrain but it can jam through the ECM jam, but if it has jam the target system the SU57 has EOTS (electronic optical targeting sensor/system) and manual override system so if it get distrub the SU57 target system will activate the manual override system which will come back the target system online but in a manual mode on it. The gun which was carried on SU57 is a GSH 30 1 with a total round 165 each 30 rounds to fire it, which is actually an 30mm with HE warhead such as (HEI, HEDP-T and HEI-T) The HE warhead of 30mm can blow a tank armor, but in the movie SU57 gun was firing more like M61A2 Vulcan and the GSH 30 1 doesn't fire like that, with just 2 projectile of 30mm HEI round can rip or destroy the wing of F14. The SU57 has an EW suite with AESA radar and L band radar that can jam the radar single as well as making it difficult to lock on target on the SU57 and L402 also it is an ECCM which can detect the aircraft at the back as well as can jam the counter offense to jam the enemy aircraft and the SU57 has RWR and MWR so the pilot will know that the aircraft is detected and the incoming missile which can give the single to the pilot that the missile is coming. So there is a lot of specifications are there on SU57, this one which I was written it was an half of it. In real world the SU57 would have been destroyed the F14 with just one circle as well as Rate fight. Yeah the movie was good but the fight scene was totally unreal.

We need to pause and take a moment to appreciate that neither of these planes were available for filming and thus the whole fight was conjured up through smoke, mirrors, and magic. The level of visual effects wizardry is so good I just can’t tell that this isn’t the real thing. Hat’s off!

I can't believe I came across your channel. I attended Pacifica high school (class of 2019). During the week of the Great Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach, CA, I was a part of the NJROTC there and we were told to meet during our class period in the stage classroom. When I walked in there was the team of the AF Thunderbirds. Then as we all sat down one man stood up and started talking about how he wanted to join the Thunderbirds and explained how a certain individual in his life said that he couldn't do it, yet his persistence and hard work kept him following his dreams. This man was you. I remember how happy you were talking to us and explaining more about the AF Thunderbirds. I also remembered asking you guys if you all have pranks on each other hahaha. I later went to the air show that week and watched the performance and saw you guys leave and takeoff at the Los Alamitos Joint Training Force Base in Cypress, CA. I had the pleasure of seeing one of the F-14’s that was in the first Top Gun movie at the Tillamook Air Museum this past week. What impressed me about the aircraft was the sheer size of it, and not a lot of room in the front and back seats. To be able to maneuver a machine of that size is truly remarkable, and props to the pilots who were the experts in their skills and mastery of air combat in that jet.

When asked how the aircraft was to dogfight given its size, one top gun pilot said that ward carrol (callsign "Mooch") was interviewing, "She dances well for a big girl." The biggest problems for the aircraft was compressor stalls in the A versions engines. That was mostly eliminated in training, but stalls were sometimes deadly as they were prone to occur at low airspeed with high AOA; such as a carrier approach. When those occurred the recovery inputs needed also had to be revised for the aircraft. Mooch goes through all of it in depth as well.

Great explanations and it’s cool that the makers got things pretty realistic. I’ve watched it like 6 times now. One thing that caused a huge fuss you didn’t explain,unless I missed it. Another KZbin channel had a British fighter pilot's take on the movie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3vJgIpumq1ljJo And he did commented on how it is very much plausible that going low can confuse aircraft targeting systems. The scene and his reaction starts from 3:20 of the other video, where Maverick's missile is outmaneuvered by the enemy, and Maverick remarks has to dive for low altitude hoping that the enemy fighter's targeting will not work so well. He elaborates further in 4:13 where he says that the enemy pilot's HUD symbology shows the target lock jumping around the hot rocks, and that scenario being perfectly plausible.

Ha ha....your comment about "that's my dad's jet!" just reminded me of my AF ROTC days. My base commander was a former Eagle driver for like 20 years before he moved into the ROTC post he ended up leading, and he told us his son followed him into the Academy and Air Force, and when he was assigned a plane, he actually DID somehow get the exact plane his father flew! He was also the one who broke the news to me that because my vision was JUST outside 20/20 that I couldn't be an Eagle driver myself as I had dreamed of since I was a kid, but that I could actually be a RIO, and that in some planes they were more important than the actual pilot. Well, me only being 18 at the time was all "What the heck is a RIO, Sir?"....so he just looks at me and goes "Did you see Top Gun?" "Yes sir...." "Goose. Goose was the RIO." Me after a few seconds...."GOOSE DIED!!! I don't want to be Goose!!!" the entire room busted out in laughter at that, which at that point was about 1/3 of the entire cadet corp....I left the program that semester despite being the best cadet pilot in the entire pilot candidate group. lol

Ward was kinda showing that those inputs would not result in the move seen in the movies. I think he said something about taking it easy on his flight out to his next show. I was 16 or 17 then and thought it pretty cool to meet him like that. My dad set it up for me as he was the SFO chief for the FAA office at Tri-City Airport. Always enjoyed watching the Birds and the Blues fly, but the Birds have the best colors.

I also like how Rooster was so overly cautious throughout the film until he was really in the shit. Then him and Mav kind of traded roles and he had to walk Mav through being overly cautious. It let Maverick know that the kid was ready and it let the kid know that Maverick was only looking out for him. Great duality of their roles. The acting in this film was just as powerful as the action.

All the way from Russia . And they would do mock dog fights the f14 they had were jolly Rogers they had some f-16s and f-15s it was very interesting to see them flying around doing their maneuvers and such the mig could not get the F-16 off their ass they struggled to get the f-14 off of them . That same year they had the Thunderbirds doing their little aerial demonstration I got buzzed by an F-16 less than a hundred foot off a deck low enough that I can see the pilot wave to us as he flew by . Splitting the throttles in an F-14A would be a terrible idea since the intense yaw angle would cause a compressor stall in the engine that is outside the turn. Since the F-14A carried the dreaded TF30 engines, they were prone to compressor stalls during high angles of attack and high sideslips and since the Tomcat is already in a high angle of attack with asymmetric thrust, it is already prone to flat spinning.

Tomcat had a 50 round burst limit on each trigger pull. With about 675 rounds, we had 13 or so shots, depending on actual burst number. Once in our dome ACM sim I put 40 out of 50 into a opponent in a head on pass. Hard to do, but possible. Mav was way too far away to try to gun the guy in the head on pass in the final engagement. Split throttles and rudder overs was not something anyone did much in the A models with the Pratts. Too prone to stall. Not so much a problem with the latter GE motors in the A+ and D's. The fingering of 3,3, 0 was a heading, given after following his hand pointing forward.
@johnbranch8277
@johnbranch8277 2 жыл бұрын
The 330 heading would have been a realistic heading to return to Isfahan or less likely Mehrabad (Tehran) on an egress to the carrier in the Arabian Sea/Gulf of Oman. Those airfields are where the Tomcats are based. Neither of these bases are within walking distance of mountains like those they ingressed through and housed the target.

Regarding the ejection seat(s). As far as I know the F-14, it looks like that Rooster (and may be Maverick too) forgot to arm his/their seat(s) with the switch on top of the headrest. That's why the ejection sequence didn't work when Rooster tried to pull the handles.

Rooster pulled the pins on the gears and the AIM9s but he didn’t pull the pins on the seats, hence why he couldn’t eject. The F-14A had 2-canopy pins and I think around 7 per seat. It’s been a while. Only thing I can say for "it's not the plane it's the pilot" is that Maverick is the only one up there right then who *already knows* he's in a fight. And probably has more experience as a fighter pilot than the others. That said, there's a reason the script has to concoct some lucky contrivances and movie magic to even make this feel remotely plausible.

Going up against an SU-57 with an F14 Tomcat is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Maybe, just maybe it would have a chance if you put an Iranian pilot in it. The Iranians have been using the F14 Tomcat longer than anyone else. Their pilots trained at the Top Gun Academy in the 1970s. Those pilots have trained the new generation so if anyone would have a chance, it would be an iranian F14 pilot.

Ward Carroll, a former RIO in the F-14 Tomcat, made a very good video on the subject. However, he makes it clear that the danger for a real F14 to flatspin would be extremely high and it would have almost no other effect, except that it would make a strong rolling movement. In addition, if the thrust decreases too much on one of the engines, it would lead to a compressor stall.

in an F-14A with the TF-30 engines splitting the throttles would have been very dangerous. the TF-30s were very prone to compressor stalls when experiencing excessive yaw and sudden throttle movements. the problem was solved when they upgraded to the F110-GE-400 engines with the B model but the engine nozzles on this jet are definitely the TF-30s

I've seen a popular DCS youtuber perform dogfights in the F-14 with and without splitting the throttle, and apparently as long as you understand the characteristics of the aircraft (and keep it out of a flat spin), it's pretty effective for short periods. They've even tried it with other airframes with success. Fun fact (? grain of salt here): there are only 5 combat operational Su-57 airframes in existence.
