My Emco Maximat V10 had a broken selector fork, so I had to design and create a new fork in order to make my lathe operational again. This could be done many different ways.

You did a very fine job, making the replacement shift fork! It does highlight the value of a contour band saw in the shop. My lathe is a V10-P and so far I have had no mechanical issues with it; I got it second hand in 1991. The electrical switches I was ready to throw out and replace them with a relay panel. My very talented son took on the repair, and 20 years later the switch is still operable. Not a bad lathe apart from a few shortcomings which, to me, are rather inexcusable.

I had the same problem a few years ago and I end up with a 3D printed Fork out of ABS. For the srews I changed to PT screw for platic. It was an easy and cheap fix. I print a few more if it breaks but it runs now for more than 5 Years properly. But your solution will last withour any doubt for ever! Good job. I was really impressed to see you with a hacksaw cutting the outer geometry.

Thanks again! I didn't even think about 3D printing one, that would have saved me a lot of time. 5 years is very impressive. Yours will probably last a lifetime too if you shift gently. I wasn't sure the best way to make mine but the hacksaw method worked for me!

Is the model to 3d print the fork available somewhere? Just got a Emcomat 7 with the same broken fork, would love to print a replacement.

Hello, would there be any chance to print out a set and sell it? I have the same issue but if you already have tested the replacement part, it would be much easier for me to buy it. Thank you

@@MikeJD Hi Mike, No problems to send either the file to print by yourself or I could look if I have a spare one in my stock. But I only did the big fork (front right side). The small one is still working. It is up to you. Greetings, Kai

@kaihuck6641 Hello, I am dealing with a broken selector (the large one) and was wondering about a 3D printed option myself. Are you able to provide me with the printing file? Or would you be willing to make and sell one? Thank you!

Absolutely superb job, good to see the 7 helping out it's big brother. That shift fork will last forever, much better than the cast originals. Best wishes, Dean in Oxfordshire, UK.

Thanks, Dean! Once I get a vise for the v10, I'm thinking about letting the 7 go. Glad I had it for this project though. Here's to hoping the other fork doesn't break!

Nice work. Mine did the same thing same fork , mines also solid aluminum stock now . Seems the right fork is a common issue.

Fantastic work. Good to see some quality roughing going on with the hacksaw and the holesaw! Not many people appreciate just how important an operation sawing is. I know my brother had been looking forward to this episode, as I understand those forks are a common point of failure. The old one looked to be cast in Mazak or something similar. Your replacement machined from ally billet will last forever. Looking forward to your next film. From Carl in the UK. 🇬🇧

I believe you are correct and the forks are zamak (I also think thats the same as mazak). Unfortunately they are a weak point and a pain when they give out, but a fun project either way. I appreciate the support as always!

I had the same problem but with the other fork. Still in the process of machining it with the mill. Nice job!

@@roddyworkshop4454 Its the lathe I've always wanted, I bought it off a friend who was going blind so I know its background. Mine doesn't have the mill which in hindsight I'm quite happy with having got a separate one. Great to see these older machines being looked after, thank you for sharing your work

@@campbellmorrison8540 I got very lucky when this popped up for sale. The previous owner was a retiring machinist who rarely used it, but took great care of it when he did. I also have a separate mill and agree that it’s much easier to use that instead of the one attached to the lathe. Thanks for the support!

I need one of these forks for the milling head. Any idea if the lathe forks are interchangeable with the milling head forks?

Unfortunately, they are different forks entirely and are not interchangeable
