What a coincidence that you released this video. Just last night I was looking over my wife’s 401K and the fees she pays for it. She’s paying an average of .71% (not too expensive) over eight funds within that portfolio, and it doesn’t keep pace with the S&P, which is also offered through her 401K at 0.016%. Not only is she losing money by not keeping pace with the S&P, but she’s losing thousands of dollar every year in fees. Time for some changes-stat!

Hopefully you didn’t sell the house that you were living in … even if it’s a 2nd home, I rather keep that as rental income than sell it . Property is more stable. Also you can show more losses when you do taxes. So in reality you end up giving more on taxes for your profits on stocks. Anyways good luck 🍀 whatever works for you 👍

Great video as always!! As recent retirees, it has helped visualize things for us to use the bucketing system for our investments with specific focus on our short term, mid-term and long term financial needs. It may not be necessary, but having separate accounts for these 3 buckets has helped us when it comes time to do any rebalancing. Keep up the awesome videos and thanks for making everything so practical. John and Bev

It's Sunday again, and I was looking forward to your new video! ☺️ We just did our 401k rebalancing last week. My husband started a new job and we put the "old" 401k money into a Roll Over IRA to have more ETF options (the old job 401k had so few). And we also started a KZbin channel and did a Q&A and we're sitting on two chairs beside each other and I felt so happy that we are doing this as a couple. I wanted to do this for so long (with you as my role models), and now it's happening! Thank you for inspiring us! Our FIRE journey will still take a while, but we already want to start doing more of the things that give us joy NOW! Big hug from NYC, Kati

I have a spreadsheet I keep, one of the tabs is for projections. For each of my accounts I use a investment calculator out for a few years based on the additions I will make and the returns I want to hit. That why I know if I’m making my % every year. Then I adjust yearly based on where I end up.

This video is perfect timing. I watched your previous video about handing over full control if your 401k. Which I was previously doing with my 401k I was shocked & exactly like the other viewer, I'll be making major changes. I just have to stop looking at my portfolio as often as I currently do. The closer I am to retirement the more I'm viewing portfolio 😆. Going forward, I'll be checking in as suggested.

I don’t know if comparing an entire portfolio to the S&P 500 is the best way to measure performance. Fixed income investments are intended to protect people from losses during bear market swings, not necessarily outperform. When doing a comparison, I think it’s important to only compare the equity portion of the portfolio to the S&P.

You may think your returns are small if you put in a smaller amount, but it's really based on a percentage (the return). One of the things that helped us was that we did a lot of research before we invested in something so that we felt comfortable in what we invested in. Then, after that, we automated our investments, so we weren't constantly going into our portfolios and checking the performance. We also kept our long-term goals in mind! :)
