Amen … as long as we’re investing in good companies and we got long term goals corrections won’t affect us. The price of a stock only matters when we buy or sell. Everything else in between isn’t as relevant.
@rashadthewealthcoach3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’m in it for the long haul, so I’d love to buy at the bottom. At the same time, wouldn’t this also be timing the market, since we don’t know exactly when the bottom is? So it VTSAX goes from $118 to $50 and we finally decide to throw $20,000 in it, what if it goes to $25? The whole thing is a constant gamble with a long term success rate. Buy, hold, forget. Great post.

I’m so grateful for your always lucid commentary. I have a question that rounds my head for considerable time: if I think that interest rates will increase and that within the next 2-3 years there will be a considerable dip in the stock market, should I temporarily increase the share of fixed income investments in my portfolio, and return to the stock market once stocks are cheap again? Would that be an appropriate strategy to protect the gains made so far?

That's a really hard decision to make :( The problem is that there is no way to tell when stocks will be "cheap" again. If stocks go up, you could miss critical days in the market. But, if stocks crash, they could become cheaper. We like the dollar cost averaging approach, but each investor has his/her own investing strategy! :)
