"THE SEDGE" teaches another class on how to move up to Advanced cabinet making. Story sticks are essential for making great cabinets, One thought on laying out your cuts, don't forget your sawblades kerf size. I always add in 3mm to make sure you have enough wood. Also, don't be afraid to make a prototype. My shop has lots of those.

My plan to make my miter station is going to be to use metric. I am glad I watched this. I am close to being ready to start building the cases. And I’m planning to use the LR32 for both drawer slides and for adjustable shelves. I haven’t figured out how many drawers and such. So I need to get on that now. And definitely going to use a story stick. I thought I needed to have my drawer vs door and sizes all laid out before I start. But now I’m thinking… just do the LR32 on all of them and that will mean I can change things around later.

I'm planning on building a shop as soon as we can find a house to buy in our new city. This will be one of my first projects as it will eliminate a hodgepodge of rolling cabinets I have built over the years and give my Kapex a home.. Would love it if at some point you published the dimensions/layout of the cabinets so there is a plan to follow. Love the story sticks!

Thanks! I'll consider doing that.

@willbaker8884Ай бұрын
Sorry to be that guy, but I’ve never understood why Americans say that metric needs to be learnt. You can count to a hundred? Then you can already “do” metric. Your money is in metric and I assume everyone can count their dollars and cents up. Now imperial, that is something that has a learning curve. We use both here in the UK, but I’d happily do without imperial.

Cool I love using metric

For planning cabinets… Sketchup is your friend🙉 What I did not understand… as an ambassador for the 32 mm system… why not space the drawers at 32 mm? I just run 3 rows of 5 mm holes on each side for perfect straight drawer rails.

Hy, first I want to thank you Sedge for the great content you are providing for the community for free! As Austrian I am using metric only and I don't want to argue for or against it. BUT: mixing the two systems is really awfull in my view. Nevertheless thank you for sharing your knowledge. KZbin should stay positive and friendly😊

Professor Sedge, a “Story Stick” is an absolute must. I like the idea of the bottom drawer being deeper. I agree with you metric is better to go with, faster calculations and the lines of the millimeter is much easier to read than the fraction. Plus, the material is in metric from the lumber yard. I am building with you, be careful or I might repeat your mistakes, lol. Story Stick would prevent that.

Yeah, I bought the 24" version when they first came out ("one time tool"?). Then, when they came out with the 48", I bought one of them. Then, when the 96" came out... I have way too many red tool, but far more (money-wise) in green tools. That's what my wife calls them, too. "You bought another green tool?" It's a good thing she never wanders into my shop. 😆

Hey Sedge. Why not 16mm spacing and use LR32 with screw spacing to suit draw slides.

Hey sedge. I’m going through this same design now. I was going to build 12” drawers but using a 4” tall drawer box. Was doing this to save on materials and reduce that feeling of “reaching into a box “ on those deeper drawers. Any insights or reasons I should avoid this? It also helps me change the height of drawers by simply changing the face

Hi Sedge, with setting out like that wont you end up with 1 drawer front at the top being bigger than the rest of the 100mm ones due to the thickness of the 18mm carcass? Great content
@Mike--KАй бұрын
I had the same question, as this always happens to me when I make a set of drawers for a cabinet. I usually wind up with evenly sized drawer fronts, but they are not at the same position on the drawer boxes. This means the drawers are not interchangeable in the cabinet. Also, is the 15mm spacing at the top and bottom necessary, since there are no additional drawers on these ends?

As an alternative to doing all that math for the drawer width, just install the slide and measure outside to outside of the part that the drawer rides on. The side are simply the length of the draw slide (21" drawer slide is a 21" side, and if the outside to outside measurement of the drawer rails is 30", then cut the front and back 30"). Bourbon Moth has a video on this and it made undermount drawer slides much easier than me having to wonder if I carried the 3. Lol
@sedgetoolАй бұрын

@chrisr8996Ай бұрын
11:30 you prob bought enough matieral anyway but careful with that guesstimate: unless your material is oversized by a few centimeters and you want to take off at least one factory edge you'll only get 11 pieces of 100mm - plus one piece that's at least 22mm shy of 100 because you disregard the ~2mm kerf (~2mm x 11cuts = 22mm). Better plan on at least 103mm for layout purposes or just do 97mm drawer heights to have a bit of wiggle room towards the end of the sheet.
