Love the thumbnail..!! That is gold. I'm ATGATT - even wear an airbag jacket, tall boots and side-padding for the hips. My guilty pleasure though is that when I arrive at a motel in a country town, after checking in, I often ride to the room with no helmet - it's very appealing riding with no helmet and I can sure appreciate why people squid. Good video and good subject mate.

I haven't commuted on a bike in years. But, I usually wear the gear, but most of my riding is full day riding, or long trips, so wearing the gear for all day, is a lot easier. That said, I recently ran down to the gas station to get snacks in Mexico from the hotel, and I did it in t-shirt, shorts, and no helmet. So, I guess that is super squid like.

Other than going to work, if I'm on my bike I know I'm going to be on it awhile. So I almost always have on my gear. My commute to work is at night and on the freeway so I always have on all my gear for that. But those very short slow trips I might just do the T-shirt ( all other gear though ).

New biker here. Other than the pants, I do try to kit out the full gear, mostly because I'm still learning (no, I'm not nervous, who said I'm scared???). Jacket can be a nightmare down here with the days averaging 90 to 100, but I compromised by getting an armored shirt, not as protective as a full jacket, but still provides some comfort. Got to admit, I cringe seeing people riding with bare arms and no gloves, imagining the road rash if they skid out. Give me a few more months on the bike, I'm sure my squid level will rise.

Have you looked into a mesh riding jacket? We have the same weather 90 - 100 plus 90 - 100% humidity. At least that is what it feels like. But I wear a mesh jacket by Rocket. Let’s the air in and still have all the padding and protection.
@bradroddenham6370 Жыл бұрын
@@timkilbourn5685 I have one, the Rev'it Airwave 3. Problem is I grew up in the north and I'm a cold weather person. All I need is a sweatshirt in 30 degree weather. So even the mesh makes me overheat. What I got is an Icon field armor compression shirt, it's all mesh, but with a mix of Kevlar and D30 inserts offering protection in all the right places. If I do a long highway drive, I suffer the jacket, but for tooling around local, speeds not topping 30 or 40, it's good enough and not too hot. Throw a tee over it and it doesn't look too bad.

Being geared up as much as possible ( especially being a new rider ) is very smart!! If regular gear was too hot , getting the armored shirt was a good idea too for slow speeds. I'm an ATGATT guy mostly to keep the wife happy. I only have one pair of moto jeans, if I commute to work I just change when I get to work. My commute is only 30 minutes, so I don't bother washing them but once a week, so no need to have a full weeks worth of pants. So far they've lasted 3 full years. Wear what makes you comfortable, just like riding your own ride.

I've thought about doing that with the jeans. Unfortunately at my work our locker room is tiny and we have about 5 dudes all trying to change at one time. So I steer clear if that place!! 😂

Of course here in Mississippi you have to have a helmet and since I wear contacts I always wear a closed face helmet. I always wear gloves because of how much I sweat it just helps me to make sure my hands don't slip. Like you said most of the time your work boots are just as good if not better than most motorcycle boots so I wear work boots. I also100% agree with you on the motorcycle pants. They cost too much for me the justify buying them but I always always wear blue jeans. During the summer 95% of the time i wear just a t-shirt as like you said it's just too hot here but I did stop last weekend on the way back from TN and bought a fishing long selves as riding on the interstate back home 5 hours full sun 98+ I knew I would have been burnt. During the winter I will put on a jacket. With all of that being said i mostly wear helmet, gloves, jeans, and t-shirt, work boots. If I am riding off-road i'll wear my full monkey suit(Rev-it adv style jacket, pants & boots) as your more of a chance to fall on the trails. I will if i'm on a long paved road between offroad sections, take my jacket off if it's hot as I have my underarm type shirt on under it.

@HippoDrones Жыл бұрын
A fact in the UK, possibly world wide, is most accidents happen within 2 miles of your home addreww or place of work, so the times we most often squid, are the times we are most likely to have that accident! I personally think people should wear what they like, provided they understand the risks. I do think it is good to promote the use of as much kit as possible to new riders... they are far more likely to crash and if they hurt themselves, it is more likely to put them off riding, so kit will keep them on 2 wheels over 4. I used to be an ATGATT rider, mainly after breaking my back and pelvis in an off, and most of the riders I rode with back in those days were too... but we were all on sportsbikes and we rode them hard on proper twisty treelined country roads, an off at the speed we rode would probably have been a fatality without gear... and maybe even with it. Nowadays, I have calmed down on the bikes a lot, still like to make progress, but the sane swich is almost always selected now in my brain. So I normally wear urban bike kit, which still has all the protection, but is not quite as good as full leathers/textiles.
@KODEGREY Жыл бұрын
The same statistics apply over here too. We usually say ( Within 20 minutes of your home ) the most accidents occur. 100% agree that all new riders should be encouraged to be ATGATT. And beyond really. I'm still most of the gear 98% of time myself. Other than the pants when it hot out.
@JacksonFlemings Жыл бұрын
@@KODEGREYit’s because on average, most people travel within 2 miles of their house more often than they do anywhere else. Hence more crashes will happen there. You squidding whenever you go out is a risk, regardless where you’re traveling to. Coincidence doesn’t mean correlation!

im with you, ill dress for the ride, if its a low speed ride in hot weather i may wear just a hoodie instead of a fully armoured jacket, i wear normal jeans the majority of the time, and i am more than happy to wear an open faced helmet (people knock it but when you ride open face and feel that freedom and visibility it will change your mind) also if i ride in clothing that leaves me more vulnerable i tend to be more aware and speed considerate. if i had guns like yours id wear t shirts on the bike every time 😁😁💪💪
