Great milestone Max! The tread pattern on those new tyres look like the XZL military ones I have on my series 3. A really good all round radial in the wet and dry and not noisy either. They are also narrower than most 4x4 people choose but for good reason, they cut through the slop to the grip underneath not glide over it. Substance over glitter!

soft sidewalls, well, yes, they are radial tyres in a cross-ply [imperial] measure don't be in such a rush to fit your new boots, modern tyres degrade at an alarming rate when just sitting outside, 6 months is enough to crack the sidewalls you can fit tubes if you wish, but you must heavily dose them in chalk or talc, aunties are a good source of talc... keep up the excellent work young man

You may be tempted to fit your new tires straight away but the rubber age degradation clock doesn't really start ticking until they've been inflated so if you put them on last they'll remain supple and grippy no matter how long the build takes.
@Achtung73
@Achtung73 Жыл бұрын
UV light can also degrade varios materials so keeping them covered up and out of direct sunlight until they are fitted will not harm things.
@crustycurmudgeon2182
@crustycurmudgeon2182 Жыл бұрын
UV light is far worse than mounting and airing the tires. Even then, tires actually have a "shelf life"-- whether they're mounted or not. Various manufacturers have sometimes very different date codes for the date of manufacture, but every tire is marked with a code-- permanently (usually raised letters/numbers). Rule of thumb is: around the 5-year mark is the time to start worrying about your tires. Problems from side blow-outs to tread separation can happen.

What a massive difference... still a long way to go... but it looks like a vehicle now, not a collection of bits of metal. I love the sound when you hoist the chassis up in the car port.... it makes some kind of "organic" "intestinal" kinda sound.

Nice work Max the landy is coming along nicely now. Save yourself the toil and run into town with your set of wheels and fresh new rubber. Cost you no more than £10 per wheel for fit and balance. The forks on the back of the kubota should make breaking the bead on the ruined ones easy.

Max having done a similar thing back in 2002 then later on put parabolics on my series 3 109". did you know that the front springs should be handed? Before you painted yours they looked the exact colour and make up of the ones I bought and the fronts were marked left and right in feint light yellow paint. I know yours were slightly rusty from storage and you may have missed it. I would check with whoever you got them from. The spring rate difference was to support the one constant in a Land Rover, it has to have a driver! And you ain't a small guy! I was shouting at the screen that the front axle was back to front lol A great episode as it is so satisfying to see a rolling chassis after all that amount of work. Well done mate! And the new tyres are absolutely awesome and you should have little problems fitting them given how pliable the walls are.
