As someone who has shouted along with 60k others “you can’t stop me loving myself” to the top of my lungs, I can first hand say the love yourself speak yourself campaign that BTS had, and UNICEF later partnered with, is incredibly powerful. As a woman I can remember being given reasons to dislike a plethora of things about myself, skin color, hair, weight, attitude, you name it since I can remember. There is such power in love yourself as a mantra. This is why I love BTS.

I think it's important to remember, too, that age-wise, RM is in the middle of the group. (He and J-Hope were born in the same year, so in Korea they're considered age-mates, but Hobi's almost 9 months older.) To Jin, Suga, and J-Hope, RM is the leader, but he's also their little brother. I think they felt acutely that this was a burden RM had to shoulder alone, but that they would support him in any way possible to make it easier for him if they could.

💜 you right back, Uncle Harley! And yes, 7:25 RM has an RJ in his lap-- the members of BTS each made characters as part of the Line Friends collection known together as "BT21"-- seven characters that represent each of the members, and an eighth to represent ARMY. They created their backstories and their entire storyline. (The characters are all nonbinary.) RJ (a foodie alpaca who loves churros) is Jin's character. Jin loves his character and always travels with one. He'll often loan RJ to other members for emotional support, like when Hobi was sick with a bad cold. I'd bet Jin loaned RJ to RM as nonverbal support.
@PasteisAwesome
@PasteisAwesome Жыл бұрын
Yes! You put this in a much better way than I did… someone said I needed to look into BT21 cause I said he was an emotional support stuffy. 😭😭 I was just wanting them to know the significance without writing out the whole story, guess I shouldn’t have been lazy with my comment. Lol

And 👍 I the same size RJ that Jin traveled with on the World Tours. RJ is the perfect emotional Foodie Alpaca! 🦙 💜

7:25 Well caught with the stuffy. That's RJ the alpaca, Jin's BT21 character who's based on a character he used to doodle as a child. Each member created their own character including background, personality etc. Jin's very proud of and close to RJ. He lent him to RM for support and comfort just like he's lent him to other members when they're sick or nervous. It's so endeering. 💜 (If you read the korean letter for Jin sideways it looks like RJ in english, hence the name of his "son". 😉)

Hey Max And Harley. This particular speech of RM's is what got me into BTS. Just over a year ago, there was a drawing on the wall at my college of RM with this part of his speech written on it. 'No matter who you are. Where you're from, your skin colour, your gender identity. Just speak yourself. Find your name. Find your voice by speaking yourself.' I was having a bit of a wobbly time back then and I was struck by this and decided to find out who this person was. There was no looking back after that. Down the rabbit hole I went...! BTS have given me so much strength since then and I will always be grateful to all of them. I'm Looking forward to Uncle Harley's new channel. Borahae. 💜

Personally, I think Jungkook is the most relaxed here and it really speaks to his trust in RM and the team. The thing about confidence is it's not really about being good, but more about having trust. That's part of why 'fake it til you make it' can only take you so far. With that, you're just convincing yourself the concern isn't important so it doesn't matter if you do well or not. But trusting yourself, like trusting anything, takes practice and will lead to a much stronger sense of confidence.

I think people forget, BTS doesn't HAVE to do this. Speeches at the UN is not part of their contract! It is so interesting as RM has said in more recent times that being the spokesperson for BTS was difficult because (he said) there are 7 people with 7 different views and perspectives. And likewise, the other 6 members always felt guilty during international events/media/interviews as they had to rely on RM so heavily. They have always expressed this to each other and not taken each other for granted.💜

I became Army in 2014 and you have no idea how big Bts's impact was on me.. I met them in my darkest time.. full of negativity and self hate.. thinking that I was never enough for everyone around me, I was so sensitive back then, and I ruined some of my friendships mybe because I'm not good at socializing.. Im also an only child in the family.. perhaps thats why I find it hard to understand people around me ..I was so lost and hopeless.. Glad that I got to know them at that time.. I learnt new things everytime I watch their videos.. some of it are common sense because I lack that part😅... And mostly. They showed me why is it important for us to always do self reflect. since then, I became the better version me.. Im doing great in both academics and socializing.. I learnt how to appreciate everything's around me. There's so much that I get from them.. And I really really appreciate them.. Also, knowing how much they love me as an Army makes me feel more confident in myself and it helps me a lot like I can not settle for less or please any other people just to get their validation.. and let people treat me badly.. Its a lot tbh. Thats how much they mean the world to me. Hope I get to see them and tell them f2f how much they've help me.. and thank them for growing up with me throughout my journey... 😊❤

UNICEF announced Oct 2021 in a press release that their LOVE MYSELF campaign has raised $3.6 million to promote self-love and end violence and abuse against children. In addition to monetary support, the group has raised awareness through social media, garnering 5 million tweets and 50 million engagements for posts for the LOVE MYSELF campaign since it launched four years ago. “When it comes to promoting self-esteem and improving mental well-being, one of the most important things you can do is just to start the conversation,” UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said in the press release. “The groundbreaking way in which BTS has helped spark a positive message with its ARMY is simply unmatched and incredibly invaluable.” Since joining forces in 2017, UNICEF and BTS have used the LOVE MYSELF campaign and the group’s 39 million Twitter followers to spread a message of love and compassion, as well as highlight preventive measures to keep children safe. Taking the global stage in 2018, the seven-member boy band stood at the podium at the UN to deliver a speech on identity and self-love. “After releasing our Love Yourself albums and launching the LOVE MYSELF campaign, we started to hear remarkable stories from our fans all over the world, how our message helped them overcome their hardships in life and start loving themselves,” said BTS leader RM, surrounded by fellow members Jimin, V, J-Hope, Jin, Suga, and Jungkook. “Those stories constantly remind us of our responsibility.” From 2018 to 2019, BTS used their “Love Yourself” world tour to generate awareness and dedicated booths at their concerts to provide information on how to stop bullying. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the group returned to the UN to deliver a digital message on the importance of unity and strength through trying times. “Thinking about the future and trying hard are all important - but cherishing yourself, encouraging yourself, and keeping yourself happy is the most important,” said Jin. “In a world of uncertainty, we must cherish the importance of ‘me,’ ‘you,’ and ‘us.’ That’s the message of LOVE MYSELF we talked about for three years.” Continuing their support for the campaign in 2021, BTS and their record label pledged 100% proceeds from LOVE MYSELF merchandise, 3% of Love Yourself record sales (8.7mil), and an additional $1 million to UNICEF. South Korea has the highest suicide rate per capita of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member states. According to a Statista survey, one-third of participants reported mental health issues, including depression and social anxiety. The country’s abnormally high suicide rate is often attributed to high-pressure work and education situations and rampant bullying in South Korean schools. In 2016, suicide was attributed as the leading cause of death for South Koreans aged 15 to 24. The country reached a point of reckoning in 2021 when a number of celebrities, athletes, and K-pop stars were accused of bullying and abuse. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) found in 2019 that in 144 countries around the world, 32% of students have been bullied or experienced physical violence at school at least once a month. UNESCO and UNICEF have been working to end violence in schools through policies and commitments that create safer learning environments. Through their work with UNICEF and the LOVE MYSELF project, BTS hope to spread participation in their #ENDviolence campaign and share positivity and love through music. “We hope that the LOVE MYSELF message can continue to serve [and] invigorate everyone’s lives,” said BTS in a statement. “We will be honored if all seven of us can continue this campaign to return the amazing love that we have received, and give people the strength to come closer to LOVE MYSELF. We hope to keep doing what we are doing and voice what we are voicing, so we can help people find happiness and love.”

Thank you for sharing your insights, BTS has made such a great impact to the world at large that the South Korean government has acknowledged their great contribution to helping people around the world and spreading Korean language and culture, they are subtly Korea's cultural and arts Goodwill Ambassadors. Proofs are the awards and special mentions given to them such as the Hwagwan Cultural Order of Merit award, they were given diplomatic passports when they accompanied former SK Pres. Moon Jae In on their 3rd speaking engagement at the UNGA, not to mention the cultural merit award that Jimin received for his Traditional Fan Dance, and these are just from their government alone. On BTS's 10th Anniversary, South Korea's state-run minting agency issued BTS Commemorative Medals in 2022 and now Korea Post is issuing commemorative BTS stamps. Their humility also goes above & beyond by not shying away from doing their military service for their country at the peak of their careers. They really are role models 😊💜.

The next apartment they lived in after that first one, they split the group into separate bedrooms in a 2-2-3 split. RM and Jungkook shared a room. I don't remember who was in the others (RM is my bias, so my memory is, well, biased) but I also felt like it really helped demonstrate how well they get along, that the two of them continued to room together.

I am only at minute 6 but I have to say something. Yes, many says that they would have been successful no matter the field they would have been in BUT numerous times they did said that meeting each other was the catalyst for wanting to be better and work hard for that goal. Jin daid that he thinks that if he didn't got to know the boys and work with them he, maybe, would have been an actor, but maybe not even a good one, because he didn't feel any drive to be great. So in a way they credit each other for being the reason they wanted to succeed and put so much work into it.

Also, all the boys are very supportive. They gave praises and reassurance to RM that he have done well. RM look like someone who tend to give the harshest self critic to himself.

This shirt!!! Also subscribe to your uncles channel!! @7:28 that is RG (stuffed animal) it is part of a cartoon series that BTS themselves helped with the story and making the characters. RJ is Jin’s doll/character. Jin loves RJ, he takes him everywhere (or at least did). I am sure Jin gave it to him, in hopes it helps him somehow. RM is such an amazing leader. All the members I have seen try their best to practice what they preach, which is very valuable and amazing!! Thanks for the reacting!! 💜

Just some background...for ten years they lived together in several 4 bedroom "dorms" during which RM and V were roommates, Jin and Suga, and JHope and Jimin. The youngest, Jungkook had his own room. However in the very beginning slept in one room in bunkbeds.

I would love to see your take on the Rise of Bangtan series. 20 minute episodes that follow BTS from pre debut to around 2018, all taken from actual clips of the band, plus relevant clips from other media to provide background information and context.

I second this. I would love to rewatch the series with Max and Uncle Harley if possible.. The Rise of Bangtan series by Aneesa, an army herself, is the bible so to speak for armys and nonarmys if they want to watch the indepth history of the tannies. It was unbiased too, a great documentary 💜

I just love and respect these seven men so much, I've learnt so many life lessons from them. I've grown with them, they really are the best role models. I'm always so proud of them and I'll always support them in whatever they do.

I noticed he from the way he spoke the non verbal communication skills he had that can make or break a speech. They are don't use speak figures speak from the heart using personal experience. He had his notes in order to refer to in that I mean he didn't just read notes his notes with his head down. He would look up to the people, making that all important eye contact, looking not just at the same person part of the audience of member but his eye's different people therefore engaging them. When you make eye contact with a person when you speaking that person will be more engaged they begin to feel part of what's being conveyed it's active listening occurs rather than passive listening. He uses other speaking skills eg he doesn't rush his words or sentences this allows the audience to think about what been said inwardly digest the subject. Thinking time is important when presenting something. As are questions they get the audience to actively think. He doesn't mumble but speaks clearly he's careful to put on single words or phrases all very important as that makes the audience ok this bit is very important I need to concentrate. These are the tools of someone who is used to speaking to 'Public Speaking'. Namjoon has them.

I was so happy to hear Uncle Harley started his own channel (subscribed ofc)! but what made me happier was to watch your interaction. the way you lovingly hug or listen to each other. it’s really wonderful to see. Max, I’m so happy that you started to react to bts. you’ve provided us with such good insight and this video is just another example. thank you so much 💜

I want to add up about this as well, it didnt ended up to their speech they back it up with action. They started the Love Yourself Speak Yourself era. The percentage of the merchandise and albums for Love Yourself series (Her, Tear and Answer) being sold is donated for this campaign…They were able to raise approximately $3 Million dollars in 2017 and donated $1 Million again in 2021 to renew their partnership with UN. Hence, BTS proved that ACTIONS SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Jin said he did not think he would have been successful if he had not joined BTS. He said it showed how important the people you surround yourself with are. He said he saw how hard they worked and how good they were. Suga disagreed and said Jin would have become an actor. Jin disagreed and said he was too passive or was it lazy something like that. I do remember he said he would have been in his room playing computer games and his parents would be slapping his back telling him off saying is this how a good looking bloke should be living his life. He then said they do that now. RM has always been my bias and I came to discover the group through his music first.

this react also makes me want to suggest (maybe not yet but once you get more of a scope of the whole groups journey) to react to the 2022 FESTA dinner discussion when they announced their Chapter2 and solo directions. There were a lot of heavy discussion topics and emotions happening in that festa that would be interesting to see your take on.
