Recently took a bullet wound first aid course, we learned the proper use of a tourniquet. A quick observation: you should have yours pre-loaded, ready for use. By the time you take it out of the plastic bag and make it ready, much blood will have been lost. As you may know, in 30 seconds or less 1 liter of blood is gone. We have between 4-5 liters so that's at least 20% of your blood, and it's gone quickly. Within three minutes without a tourniquet the average person will be beyond recovery. I would always TEST a knife rather than thinking its going to perform well. Even if you have seen all the reviews TEST IT, the only problem with that is, it wont be top notch condition anymore if there was an emergency. Greetings from the United Kingdom. GREAT kit

Wow. Really late in seeing this video. So far one of the best bag set ups I've seen on KZbin. I've been a student of preparedness since the early 80's. This well thought out, filled with quality tools and items and looks great. I don't normally care to have things attached to a pack but your set up has everything tight and right. As far as critiques of it being too tacticool...I've found especially in urban settings, no one really cares or notices. Plus in black it's pretty neutral. Just when you're ready to start walking, strap the knife to your belt. Now on to part 2! Well done sir.

Great bag and contents! Me personally, I wouldn't have ANYTHING hanging off my bag, not anything camo (your bag is black) because it draws attention, also, you will be a target. I'm more a fan of a mid/dark blue color bag, non tactical, not too big, the more you know the less you need, but lots of luck and god bless.

I LOVE your set up TAO. Thanks for sharing. I'm working on a similar rig, but i hate to spend another 130 bucks on a bag just to sit in a box in the back of my truck, so i'm using a Fox Tactical knock off that cost about 40. Its not as rugged, but its just going to ride and not going to see any use. I've learned I can't have a pack do double duty, because chances are it won't be there and ready if i need it. Maxpedition gear is way too good to let it just sit there. I'm a BSA Assistant Scout Master and use a Falcon 2 with my scout gear. Its a great pack that sees field use monthly. Guess I need a rich Uncle so i can afford all the good toys like TAO!

Thanks for the heads up on the Molly Stix very cool product! I am looking into implementing them. I like the 5.11 pouches for the reason they have a highly placed retainer, along with their Slick Stick System, which holds pouches nice and tight. Though I am not a big fan of the snap closure. Only a couple times I managed unsnapping my med-kit from the pack. Weaving the molle correctly, it still retained the pouch just fine when unsnapped, but in the back of my mind it bugged me a little.

Check out Blackhawks Speed Clips. I have a 5.11 Rush 72 and have a Maxped Rolly Polly Extreme backpack and replaced the Malice Clips with the Speed Clips. Works great.

I have this exact bag. It sits next to my bed with a camelbak in it and the tube close to my head bc i drink a lot of fluids during the night. Ive had 5 shoulder surgeries 4 on right 1 on left and it keeps me from having to reach with my arms.

ive owned this bag for a couple years and I unexpectedly tested this bag swimming in a lake for 45min then walking home. and my stuff stayed dry. this was due to a knuckle head on my boat that almost caused a major tragedy.

First, let me say the video is professional looking and very well done; precise and to the point! Second, we definitely think alike when it come to using quality equipment. However, I chose the Vanquest 27 over the Maxpedition pack, which I looked at first. The types and amounts of equipment we each have is almost identical, with a few brand differences. I'm still fine tuning mine and did get a few ideas from your kit. Being an EMT, I tend to over pack when it comes to medical supplies, so I need to trim that area down some to free up some space for other things. Thanks again, and I enjoyed your presentation!

Love the videos. You inspired me to actually buy a Maxpedition Falcon II for a get home bag and I absolutely love it! I bought a Leatherman Surge with sheath and a zippo with sheath. I would like to attach it as you have with yours. Could you please explain how you attached them? I have tried using some 3" molle straps from maxpedition, but they are loose. Just wondering how you got a tight fit with both the leatherman and zippo sheaths? Thanks.

+TheAmericanOutfitter In regards to your water bottle retainer, I notice you complained about the fact the Maxpedition pouch was too bulky for your liking, however looking at the setup of your bag on the right side, I believe the Maxpedition bottle pouch would be a better pouch to attach to your bag, as you can then remove all that clutter on the right side of your bag. I mean a single pouch just for your own lighter seems a bit much to me. Although it's how you prefer your set up I understand that. I just think you would be able to save space by putting your lighter and multi tool in the MT Pouch into the side pouch of the bottle pouch and obviously having your bottle in the main pouch.

***** I hear you. I'm not saying this design is right for everyone. I basically outfitted this pack to meet my personal preferences.I tried the Maxpedition bottle holder mounted on my Falcon II and did not care for it. Others have expressed similar discontent. My main gripe is that I need two hands to open the zipper and access the water bottle. Whereas with the ITS Skeletonized system, it's just a matter of lifting the pull tab with one hand and out comes the bottle. The other issue I have is not so obvious. Try getting the Pathfinder canteen cup out of the Maxpedition bottle holder. I can tell you that it is very difficult to extract. The Maxpedition bottle holder is not compatible with the Pathfinder canteen set shown in the video. Whereas the ITS system will fit almost any canteen bottle, 27, 32 or 40 ounces. It will even hold the kidney shaped canteens. The ITS Skeletonized bottle holder was a good find for me because it offers more flexibility and mounting options. As for the Zippo lighter pouch, I did this on purpose because I wanted all my main tools mounted on the outside of the pack (multi-tool, first-aid kit, cooking kit, lighter, flashlight, etc...). I am not losing any valuable space by mounting these items on the outside of my pack. That's the beauty of webbing; it allows users to mount multiple accessories to achieve a personalized package. On a con, I will say that I am not happy with the Zippo lighter because it dries out. I tried using a ranger band and this helped but it did not solve the problem. I have switched to a Brunton butane storm lighter, which never dries out and produces a super-hot blow torch like flame. Another point then I must head out to do a bushcraft knife review. The clutter that you speak of is not an issue for me because I simply remove the knife before mounting the pack. I carry my knife on my side and this leaves the pack relatively well balanced. Lastly, as indicated in the video, I do not use this pack for hunting, fishing or bushcraft. It is an emergency get home-based only. Speed Clips work great. I think the Blackhawk Speed Clips are a better choice over the Maxpedition TacTies. TacTies are a bit sloppy and do not sit flush and tight. However, the Molle Stix offer something I have not seen before, a one handed release, which instantly detaches any modular pouch from the PALS webbing. This is ideal, especially for a medical kit. Check out their video on ITS Tactical (Molle Stix a new quick release system). Much appreciated and thanks for sharing.

Hi Ricky, I replaced the Zippo on the Falcon II with a Brunton lighter, but I'm still keeping the Zippo as a backup. I also have two Nymuth Tohil lighters, which do not evaporate like the Zippo because they have a very tight gasket/seal. For survival purposes, I rely on a Nymuth, high grade firesteels and NATO approved matches. Thanks

Hello hello - looks like you've got the "get home" situation covered. Did you ever think about a portable GPS device? Also, the Delrin polymer capsules for CR123 batteries - where did you get these? I actually need CR123A capsules as I ended up getting a ROFIS RJ20 flashlight (you should ask these companies for some commission, I think that's about the fifth item I've bought that you have shown!!) and need to carry spare batteries. I have a GPS on my phone and a portable unit in my vehicle and rarely ever use them. The Delrin CR123 battery capsule can be obtained from County Comm. Please note that it will not hold re-chargeable CR123’s because the casing is too thick. It works perfectly with regular CR123’s. If you are running re-chargeables, then the Numyth Talos Capsule would be a much better choice. No commissions for me my friend. I stand in line just like everyone else. Enjoy:)

EDC still means Everyday Carry, right? You know, like what's on your belt and in your pocket? Nice approach, nice vid, but, this IS, a bugout bag.

TacticalError84 EDC is a subjective term, especially since most of us don’t walk anymore. To me it means everything I have accessible when I am not at home. To others it means everything they are actually carrying their pockets, while others define it as everything they carrying in a pack. There is no right or wrong answer, different strokes for different folks. I think what you probably meant is that this is a bug-out-bag to you, which is okay too. I was careful in the video not to call it a bug-out-bag because it is not what I would consider a 72-hour system. It is really not adequate to address a 3-day scenario. My 72-hour bag is at least twice the size and weight of this little Falcon II. I will review that system in the future so everyone can see the difference in capacity, scale and capabilities. I know the term and why it was coined, I also work in L.E. and this is something that officers have come to live by. Trying to imply to someone that they are confused as to how, what and/or why this term is used is an error on your part sir; I've noticed that very many people, unlike myself (and colleagues) have stuck to the purest most simplistic definition of it. If you're putting items for long term survival in the fashion you're modeling the bag after, it's a bug out bag. Anything with a bag is considered a bug out bag. EDC is/are items that are more concealable, with the sole intention to be carried while in the field without having to remove them, and I don't mean carry it in a vehicle, it means on your person. If you're still confused about what I'm getting at, answer this one question, do you walk into a Walmart with this EDC?

My bag is something that would be accessible to me should I need to abandon my vehicle and walk home like in the 2003 power outage that cascaded from Canada into the NE, or the 2014 Atlanta snow/ice storm.I’m not trying to imply anything nor am I suggesting that anyone is confused. I am not and you certainly do not sound confused. You have your definition and I have mine and we simply disagree. It is a respectful disagreement only. Your definition is center around LE and mine is broader to encompass emergency management and evacuation.I understand the Security and Law Enforcement industries well and can recall when officers only carried a baton and gun. No PR24’s, no oleoresin capsicum, no tasers, no body armor, no portable radios, no LoJack system, no GPS, no mobile video records, no mics, and no onboard computers. Officers either fought with their hands, used mechanical force or escalated to deadly force. There were only three choices, so I can certainly appreciate your simplistic approach. However, today the world is much more complicated and officers carry substantially more gear, both on them as well as in their patrol cars. The equipment is also better and more refined.I suspect you carry a back-up, extra cuffs, extra cuff key, extra mags, a 12 gauge or AR, flashlight, and a patrol bag full of goodies. And all this stuff you probably carry on patrol every day. In my definition, this is a form every day carry because it is gear that accessible to you. If you’re on TEAMS, then you probably carry even more gear.My point is this, times have changed and people and systems have evolved. Today, people are much more prepared, informed and educated. They have learned how to become more self-reliant, resilient and resourceful. I’m okay with your definition, but for me EDC is anything that is accessible to me, either in my pockets, car or backpack. Again, it is a respectful disagreement only. Thank you kindly.

zack gordon Hi, I found it at County Comm. It is called the Maratac Lighter Case (MLC). It has a snap and strap in the rear to attach it to webbing. The front flap is secured by a snap and Velcro so it is a very secure closure. They come in black, green, tan or gray and cost $5.00. Thanks

Wrong. The problem originated in the USA and, wasn’t managed properly, in the USA. The blackout's proximate cause was a software bug in the alarm system at the control room of FirstEnergy, an Akron, Ohio-based company, which rendered operators unaware of the need to redistribute load after overloaded transmission lines drooped into foliage. What should have been a manageable local blackout cascaded into the collapse of much of the Northeast regional electricity distribution system.

Hi Lovetitan, a ballpark figure would probably be somewhere around $1300 US dollars, depending on which tools and components you select and any deals you might get. It is not an inexpensive bag, but it is packed with significant capabilities, and could potentially save me in a real situation. In that regard, the bag would be priceless. I think a lot of people could build a bag for much less, if they were willing to scale it down and forego some of the quality components. In my opinion, building your own bag is the way to go because only you know what you want or need. Good luck my friend.

I'm a prepper in tennessee and have several b.o.b.s and i am going with this bag as an option, its small in size but with the pals on this you can easily double the capacity of it. i would recommend checking into the condor 2 battle belt to add to this bag. its adds a whole belt line of pals for bags,mags,holsters etc. and is only like 20bucks. all of your videos have been very helpful on options and things i need to buy. very informative brother.. not sure what state your in or the laws locally, but always take advantage of our american rights and carry! thanks again for the videos, any videos that have helped you please let me know. been through yours like 5 times each lol

rickjtxyt Hi, I’m not sure on the maker. There’s no tag on the collar and the bag is long gone. It is green with the visible ripstop pattern, taped seams, draw cord, snaps and metal grommets on the corners. It feels like quality material. I’mnot sure where I got it, maybe at a gun show, but I think I paid somewhere around $40 for it. It is lightweight and very compressible like the Equinox but looks more like the Helikon with the draw cord in the neck area. Try looking around Amazon. Respectfully

I have the Maxpedition Falcon II PYGMY model busting at the seems and it weighs in at 27 LBS and I have most of what you have in yours but less in quantity. Mine is your baby brother version of the one you have loaded out here. My money says your load out has to weigh in at least 37 LBS... I use a baggage scale when I travel and it is accurate. I will come back here in a few days/weeks to see if you want to update that load out weight. Very neat med kit BTW! I'm going to look into that.

Atomkey Sinclair Holy moly, you got 27 pounds of stuff inside a Maxpedition Pygmy. That’s amazing given the tiny size of that bag. That’s also a significant amount of weight to carry without a waist belt. I find that my Falcon II is pretty squared off and boxy and even when rigged correctly, it is like carrying a large cinderblock. It is too narrow and lacks ergonomics.Anyway, I went back and weighed my Falcon II again, but this time on different scale. I don’t have a baggage scale like you so I used the digital scale I used to weigh my Africa bags and that scale was only one pound off from the luggage scale at the airport. I did make some minor additions to the bag since last year but not enough to make a big difference. The total weight of the pack without the heater meal (I ate it and replaced it with a Pack-It) is 24 pounds, but that is well short of 27 pounds and certainly nowhere near 37 pounds. Bottom line I used two separate scales and obtained consistent results on both. I do have some larger packs that will carry 50 pounds of gear or more like my V69 Destroyer, but they are much higher quality than the Maxpedition packs and designed to carry big load with superior ergonomics, structure and support. I prefer my X2 over my Falcon II anyday. I will review others in the future. Enjoy your summer and thanks for the post.

Well - I'm truly amazed. I've never done a review before. I guess I should take some time this weekend and get one together on my Pygmy. That blows my mind bro that your's isn't around 40 LBS (it looks like it). Give me some time to find my tripod and I'll show you what my load out is and we can compare notes on the two packs. I'm going to re-check the accuracy of my scale. It has always been on - but the last time I used it was a trip to Honduras a couple years ago, maybe it's reading wrong. I also have some larger packs. I have a TETON 4000 with an internal frame that is about 55 LBS fully packed. I'm medium build with back problems and that is more of a grab, throw in the Jeep, and work it out later on get up. I checked out the V69. Very nice pack - but too much $$ for me. My TETON is a hiking pack and was less than $100 but it is very comfortable. It's rigged for all season everything and has a Biolite and Lifesaver bottle as one of my main components. Thanks for the quick reply - and for the great 3 part review. wrap electrical tape round the zippo lid seal, and fuel will never dry out.... mine hasnt in 2 years.... wrap it really tight mind.... g teed for two years so far.... plus buy a little zippo fuel bottle..... i know you mention this in your next vid but hey ho

Can never count on a zippo lighter as the fluid dry,s up over time, always throw a couple Bic lighters in there they are much more reliable.

Hi, this issue has been rectified. I now have Thunderbird inserts in all my Zippo lighters. They will never dry out and the metal body construction make them tougher than Bic. Respectfully

rothrock470 Hi, on this particular build I used a Malice Clip to attach my Leatherman sheath to the webbing, but there are other options. Maxpedition Tac Ties also work, but they can be a bit loose and sloppy because they are made of fabric and lack rigidity. For this reason, some folks prefer Malice Clips, MOLLE Sticks or Blackhawk Speed Clips. Respectfully

This is all but inconspicuous for urban setting , you would never be able to walk streets of London in some kind of emergency with this without being mugged ,having this bag on your back is like having a big target it is just ridicules ,they would clean you up in a minute . You will never reach home with this bag ,you would have more chance with a Bootle of water bandana ,lighter and knife in your pocket .
