Great video. I had an idea when you showed the signaling bandana. Very few people talk about a kite. I just thought of that idea, because a kite is extremely compact, and the lightweight string could be dual purpose. I was thinking of an orange kite with maybe a silver reflective side, gets your signal above the tree line, if enough wind, etc. anyway, just a thought.

I watched the rest of this part-I DO like your fire kit. Different from mine, but nothing wrong with it. My only suggestion is that you add TO it.

So, what do you do in REALLY wet conditions, when the Zippo fuel is burned off and the wood has not caught? Answer: I have a plastic bag full of treated firesticks, I also have some 1/4 inch by 2 inch pieces of dried twigs in my fire kit. Along with fuel tabs for my stove-FIVE WAYS in total to start a fire!

Where did you get the tin and glow in the dark band for your fire kit? Very nice Get-Home-Bag. I wish I had your budget!!!
@TheAmericanOutfitter9 жыл бұрын
+Steve Hancock Hi, the glow in the dark band I purchased from Rite-Aid Pharmacy. They were selling them for a good cause and I picked up a couple because they are much stronger than any rubber band and of course glow in the dark. The large brass Survival Kit Tin I obtained from Survival Resources. The link is listed below if you’re interested if investigating further. where did you get the signaling mirror with the case. also it the case molle compatible.
@TheAmericanOutfitter10 жыл бұрын
zack gordon No. The case is not molle compatible. It is simply a protective case. Survival Resources carries the padded mirror cases $5.95 - $6.95. The case shown in the video was the small one. Thanks

have you actually tried to do a get home test with that bag, I think you will learn you don't need half that stuff. lol I had a over packed bag like that until I tried to do it, and it is like 10-15 pounds instead of 26 pounds.

Nice Gear but unless you expecting alien invasion or a zombie apocalypse I wonder when you gone use most of it. When I Think about possible treats in any area , EMP from solar flyer or terrorist dirty bomb are high on the top ten list ,

+TheAmericanOutfitter I have to wonder. Do you actually use any of these things or did you just go out and buy all the little brand name gadgets.I think you just killed prepping for me.
@TheAmericanOutfitter9 жыл бұрын
+lee larsen Hi, as indicated in my video, I do not use this bag for camping, fishing or bushcraft. This grab and go configuration is for emergencies only. It just sits at the ready like an emergency bank account.I have other bags and setups that I use for leisure. I will share one of those setups in the future.If people can kill prepping for you based on a video, then you're probably not a prepper, have no serious desire to prep or perhaps are unaware of how time consuming and expensive real prepping can be. Prepping is about personal responsibility and accountability to one's family. It is about amassing resources and knowledge that can be used to sustain or prolong human life. It is about having an emergency management plan in place and putting together a comprehensive network before something happens. It is not quick and fast and there is no such thing as one size fits all. The downside to prepping is the obvious, one can spend all that time and money and nothing might ever happen. Choosing to prepare or not is often based one’s level of risk and the probability and criticality of an adverse event. Only you can determine your level of exposure. I only plan for realistic occurrences. I do not waste my time on end of world theories or scenarios. In the end, only you can decide if being prepared is important to you. It is a commitment requiring time and resources, but I have no opinion or judgment on how you spend your time or hard earned money. Respectfully

Good job. Good gear and lots of redundancy. The only thing that I see time and time again is why do people not get a high quality sighting compass and never seem to include a topo map? Not to mention a grid reader. With all that other great gear the compass looks out of place.
@TheAmericanOutfitter10 жыл бұрын
The reason I do not carry a topo map or grid reader is because my Falcone II is not a wilderness bag. I do not take this pack into the mountains. It is only a short term get home bag and I can find my way home from almost any major roadway in the northeast. Nonetheless, I do have a portable GPS unit inside my vehicle. I only use the compass to determine direction of travel. I do not plot with it, but your point is well taken and any wilderness bag should contain at least a GPS unit with extra batteries. It would be nearly impossible for me to carry a topo map for all the areas that I travel to. Thank you for your post. Much appreciated.
@Rocky17659 жыл бұрын
TheAmericanOutfitter unless the FUBAR is an EMP, then that GPS is toast. Also, what is a grid reader? Are you referring to a map protractor?
@rationalbushcraft9 жыл бұрын
***** A UTM grid reader normally has a protractor built in. This is my favorite one. www.amazon.com/UTM-Ruler-For-Topographic-Maps/dp/B003CI06VU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1427843294&sr=8-4&keywords=utm+grid+reader I also don't have any problem using this style. www.amazon.com/000-Scale-Pocket-Size-Grid/dp/B004J13XHS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427843294&sr=8-1&keywords=utm+grid+reader I always have a GPS as well but you can't count on that. I learned land nav from my search and rescue training and even though we know how to use a GPS we have to learn map and compass because as you mentioned you never know when the GPS will stop working. The government has the ability to degrade or even turn off the GPS signal for civilian GPSR (technically you don't have a GPS you have a Global Positioning System Receiver.) When GPSRs were first released the government was degrading the signal and you could get better accuracy on a map but now they are giving near military grade signal to civilian units. I would also suggest that you may find yourself in a situation where the roads are not safe and knowing how to navigate off trail or road is a valuable skill to have. As far as I am concerned everyone going into the woods should have a topo map and good compass and be confident enough in their skills to call an air strike to within 500 meters of their position. If everyone had that I would never be deployed on a search and rescue mission.
@Rocky17659 жыл бұрын
Rational Bushcraft OK< I know those simply as map protractors. Although I have never seen any like that before, I am use to the military issue one which is square (no rouneded edges) so it always stuck you in your leg if you put it in your cargo pocket, LOL.
