I fixed two heaters using your expertise. Worked on all of them. All different types of heaters that had similar thermostat switches. Keep up the great work.

I haven't opened mine up yet, but I've been watching your videos before i do. Not sure if its this specific issue, but seems like it. Another issue i have, mine has a switch (low, off and high), its the red lit up switch and is jammed in the "high" position. It won't move. Have you ever seen that issue before? Just trying to figure out if its even worth opening this thing up... I wanted to be sure to thank you for your helpful videos, you have helped a lot of people! Please ignore any haters, they love when you address them in your videos. You just keep doing things the way you are. KZbin is full of crazy people that thrive on criticizing and complaining no matter how perfect you do. You'll never please them. Keep doing you! Thx again! 😊

Thank you Jen for the positive words and they are truly appreciated. Yes Ma'am, many times a switch will not make a 100% contact internally thus they are doing what the bimetal switches are doing where I explain it in the video(s). I would suggest popping it apart, please remove power from it first, to check to see if you are getting continuity across the stuck switch. There is a possibility your switch is no longer transmitting current through the contacts. If this is your problem, super easy fix. Replace the switch which should be a quick purchase, disconnect the original, push it out the front, insert the new switch, connect the wires and wala. If this only repaired the two temp settings but the heater isn't coming on then time to check the bimetal thermal switch. I've even had a few old heaters that had a thermal diode that blew. $1,50 later, back in operation. That same diode today would probably be 5 to 7 bucks. Still cheaper than one of these new fangled smart heaters that just don't heat a room. If you need to, shoot a bunch of pics of the outside, inside of the wiring and all the internals, I'll look it over to see what kind of system your heater is operating with. Send the pics to my email below or use my name and add @gmail to get them to me. I'll do what I can to assist.

02-03-2024 Where can we buy a new switch for a heater like that with the tip over protection? My heater runs all the time and the little weight on the switch is burned off. Guess it fell over once when it was on and melted the weight. I’ve looked several places but nothing like what I need.

In all the years I've been rebuilding these heaters for myself and helping others keep theirs up and going. I have yet to find a source for a inertia switch that works in place of the originals. However, you can get a switch to replace the original but this brings the need to install a 'temporary on' switch in the bottom of your heater housing that when in the upright position will depress said switch making the contacts come together thus putting electricity to the bi-metal switch. I have had the switches to do this conversion for quite some time with intentions of putting together three different ways to do this conversion for those in need of help. I've not been healthy thus the projects are not getting done and out to you. So, again, you will need a temporary on switch, a bi-metal thermoswitch (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092VQVGQL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the temporary on switch along with a few inches of wire although your heater probably has plenty inside for the conversion. Good luck and my apologies for not being able to be of more assistance with video help. Max Hughes

Once it has made connect the heater is on , so why does heat increase if you turn it in more ?

It's a rheostat switch.

Where can I get the new thermostat with the tip over protection? My momentum weight melted off.
@MaxsGarajMahal Жыл бұрын
I, like so many others before me, have not found a source for these momentum switches. I've even contacted the heater manufacturers to see if they would sell me a few hundred of them to provide to those of us that rely on space heaters during our winter seasons. I do have one bi-metal thermal switch without the momentum weight I intend to use to modify one of my space heaters. To maintain the tip over safety I'm drilling the bottom of the heater housing to install a momentary on switch. If the heater is picked up or slightly tilted it will allow the temporary on switch to break contact and thus cut off power to the heating element switch. I'll be doing a video on this modification and testing.

Hey is there any way i could get a bit of info on how to bypass the thermal fuseon thati have the same heater and it wont come on do to the thermal fuse being faulty
@MaxsGarajMahal Жыл бұрын
You can wire it directly but that isn't safe. You can drill a hole in the bottom of your heater case, install a temporary on switch that turns the heater off when it is tipped slightly allowing the switch to pop out turning off power. Take one of the wires from the bimetal switch to one of the temporary on switch wires, the other two connected together. I'm doing a video on how to install a new bimetal thermal switch and the temporary on switch soon to help you continue to have a safe room heater.

Sorry I just saw where you answered my first request. Very disappointing that no switches are available. If you spend much time repairing these heaters it’s just as easy and cheaper to go get a new one. I have gotten some switches but they are completely different from what I have. I can refit the new switch but it has no tip over protection. So like you said, you would need a tip over add on. I have thought of putting a direct connection whereby the heater is on high all the time. Then hookup an external thermostat but then fix an add on tip over.
