@SpladoinkalАй бұрын
I think I can explain the performance compared to the M2 ultra: Although the M2 Ultra has TONS of cores, in order to utilize any of that the software it's running has to be built to handle that many cores. So if the software can only utilize for example 16 cores, then any number over that no matter how large will offer no boost. In fact, since in a lot of cases it's easier to have a HIGHER core speed on smaller dies, sometimes the cpu with LESS cores can win in certain apps. Where the M2 ultra would shine in that case is being able to handle other tasks while simultaneously rendering at full speed and still being able to handle other tasks without any slowdown provided there is enough RAM to also handle both.

Some context on the Geekbench ML benchmark: The Geekbench AI CPU test uses the AMX units on the Apple Silicon CPU. This is an accelerator used to speed up matrix operations, which is useful for the multiply-accumulate operations used heavily in AI inference. While the Geekbench AI NPU and GPU benchmarks are self-explanatory, I believe out of the CPU, NPU and GPU benchmarks, the GPU benchmarks carries the most weight. Although NPUs are very power efficient, they are still not as powerful as the GPU for actual heavy workloads like LLM inference, so LLMs usually still run on the GPU for maximum throughput, making their score the most relevant.

What's confusing is u didn't label M3pro binned or unbinned like u did for m4pro...I thought u referred to m4pro to 14 cores until u wrote 18 cores.

In technology point of a view, and for more critical services, go with one update behind a latest one, for example, go with M3 pro while M4 they are fixing bugs and hitch, once they are stable go with M4 once M5 comes out.

recommending binned but why box the unbinned ones?

This is by far the best comparison I have found on youtube. You come clearly to the point, no useless blah blah blah . Thanks a lot, it made my decision to the M4 pro.

I don't see the point of upgrading my 13' MBP 2018, 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. Judge for yourself: Enormous, breathtaking CPU: quad-core Intel Core i5 2,3 GHz! Unbelievable graphics with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 with HUGE 1536 MB! Super FAST 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 which ENOUGH for EVERYTHING

Mac mini is the most impressive since you get the 10 core M4 for a low price. The iMac just gets the 8 core unless you pay extra. I’m interested to see the Studio get the M4 upgrade. Right now it makes no sense with the old M2.

I don’t know which to choose 🫣 M2 Pro 16GB or M4 16GB? Lightroom, Affinity Designer, basic video editing etc - coming from Air M2 8GB

So what I’m hearing is that I should hang onto my M1 pro MacBook, unless I plan on getting an M4 pro as a replacement. It looks like the regular M4, while definitely an upgrade might not be worth the money. My M1 MacBook Pro is a fantastic machinewith 16 gigs of memory and one terabyte of hard drive.

shame the m4 only has 1 fan. with dual fans I would consider it as being quite and affordable, while not throttling (like the airs) is a big advantage

I like that you share the AI benchmark, which much content creators missed out. Thanks for the sharing

I think we need a video of you putting the m4 Mac mini into a Wii… I would love to see how this one would fit inside of the Wii since it’s so much smaller now.

Thanks for showing the graph compared to all the other M-series chips. Most reviewers don't do that.

I’m still using my mid-2012 MacBook Pro and want to upgrade. I do a lot of raw photo editing in ON1 Photo Raw and some basic video editing in iMovie. I can’t use the latest ON1 or DaVinci Resolve since they will not work in my current specs. I’m thinking of 24GB 1TB M4 as that itself costs $1999. Can’t afford more than that. But I guess it should be enough for my needs. Right? Edit: I do need a 1TB ssd due to the sheer number of files I need regular access to and keep at least 3-4 apps open- photo editing, finder, browser, notes, preview etc.
