I miss living at home in the south. I could plant in the early spring, and things would be blooming by late spring and early summer. I could sow seed in early April or late March. I didn't have to buy too many plants already started. Neighbors shared their bulbs and cuttings! Now living in New England, I spend a fortune on started-plants, have limited choice about plant-types for zone 6; and I'm a spoiled and frustrated gardener. I've watched your show for years, and now I live vicariously through your gardening methods and results. I'm blessed each year with a beautiful garden; but the growing season is short, and I don't get to enjoy the lovely tropical blooms and leafy palms I used to love. Someday, I'm coming back home to the south; and will enjoy the long warm seasons I've always loved. I will grow elephant ears and palms I don't have to bring in to winter. I will grow tropical flowers and flowering vines once again.

P. Allen Smith I settled for three...had to order as nobody near Kansas City had them. I hope that isn’t an indicator that they don’t do well here. They weren’t expensive so I will give them a shot! So excited as that is my absolute favorite color!

Allen, One thing that would be so good (from my point of view) is to have colleagues who are in different zones so that all your viewers can see what is happening in a zone near to theirs. Also, I have a large cherry tree that caught a virus a couple of years ago. It mostly died back..but a few limbs have branches sprouting and flowers blooming. How do I decide whether to let it be or to take it out and replace it? The hubby would love a peach tree.

What do you think about using a pallet horizontally, with dirt fill, to put some raised areas in landscaping? My landscaping is too flat and I need an easy way to add height.
@PAllenSmith
@PAllenSmith 5 жыл бұрын
I don't see why not. Be creative. Just be careful if you plan to grown edibles in the pallet, unless you know exactly whats been on it, because of possible chemicals.

I'm in MN & we can & have been known to get snow in May... 10 yrs ago I would've had my garden tilled, soul prepped, plants bought & trying to get my garden in before Memorial Day, not anymore! In the last 8 yrs the weather stays colder longer & I don't care take the mulch off my Mums yet. What a joke Global Warming has turned out to be.. Mini Ice age as predicted in the 70's is more accurate, at least North of the Mason Dixon. Your garden is my dream!!

Hello! I have been binge watching your channel and I just have to say I love daylillys. They were the first thing that went into my flower bed. Me and my husband have a pecan tree in the back yard that looks great but it drops the pecans to early. Some hang on but rot. Can you help me🤔 North West Fl. Zone 8.

Bearded irises are beautiful, but far too vulnerable to disease and pests to bother with, for me. I'll stay with Siberians, smaller but just as lovely and always healthy.

🏡. Hello ! I have a " BOG " on both sides of my narrow but, long lot . . Ii have lost perrenials to unsavory neighbors taking them in the night . I am older . Little budget to spend . This is my heart , my spirit and where I rest and abide ..The waterfall from a gutter almost took out the neww Lavender Pillar Rose of Sharons Trees I chose in hopes of creatimg a privacy fence between my neighbor and myself . They came while was away in Dr. care for 24 hours and literally cut them to less then 2 ft. tall . Now , I am unceryain of their growth habit . They are no longer blooming . They appear to be shrinking as am I . I am so sad . The blue & lavendar show was spectavular , continuously shining upon my grandson of 3 and he just called it them the" Rainbow Trees " all on his own ! How can I salvage them ! I use all PW.and Espoma Organics to my garden which has a higher ph . So I want to be certaim to encorporate and initicate acidic fertilizers as need . I noted lack in my hydrangeas growth .this year and the ph is the only problem . So with the R. O. S . ; Is it a loss I cannot recover from ? There is no fall back $.00 for me . I have learned from you in that I have great hand tools , a well invested mower , a gaitbelt and my walker . I will pray , save and do what you recomennd . You stated the Sunpatience love lots of wster . Would they like the full sun and in a wstery bog thst drains the runoff of rain and keeps this bed moist moist most of the time and requires less watering . It has proven to be too wet for other perrenials following rain but, requires wstering after moisture checked . Any advise from you I will gladly share . Other then a. Big Privacy Stone Wsll & Gate . I can only abide . I cannot watch over my garden.all night long . Angels must 🕯️. You Inspire somany by maming us feel empowered even in our weakedt moments . With the simplest of tools . With the mindset to accomplish our goals at a simpler pace ,Peavegul and Strong in Our Hearts ❣️ Thank You *

Question , if gardening is good for the soul ! , does that mean we can skip confession on a Saturday night and just do a few hours extra gardening instead of having to kneel and say 10 hail Marys , 3 glory bees and a dozen our fathers ? , seems like a much better way of cleaning your soul ready to sin for another week !.
